  • If you really want to know how many calories you're burning you need a Heart Rate Monitor, they're coming down in price a lot these days although I would recommend something from a reputable brand. Why do you need one? well as you say, on a stationary bike speed is nothing and neither is distance - it's about resistance…
  • Can always use a few more friends! Can't get enough of that motivation stuff - especially as it's calorie free ;o)
  • Hi. Am down to my last 7 or 8 pounds now but feel free to add me if you want.
  • Am over in Berkshire - feel free to add me. Also, check out the UK group/community on here too :)

  • You'll hit that goal and have even more to celebrate on your birthday - request sent
  • Another based in Berkshire here!
  • always good to have new faces in the news feed! Got 6 pounds left to go although I'd like to do 10 just to make sure :o)
  • I have the Sainsburys stuff too, tastes great but be careful as 50g (the recommended serving) isn't very much at all! Low sugar stuff would be great if anyone's found some. Works great as fuel for a ride so I tend to only eat it on a cardio day.

  • He's learning early that it's not all plain sailing and big losses. If it were that easy then MFP wouldn't exist. Big picture - he's doing great!! he's lost loads already and is showing commitment to it, that's the kind of determination he's going to need to succeed. My tip would be to get a HRM from a reputable brand…
  • those cheeky pounds have a habit of doing that! I think it they hide under the bed :)
  • Yes, some of the burn rates on here are a little generous. Although I had one HRM / app combo that was equally generous, I now use a Garmin and love it! It just feels more accurate and has the backup of their connect site too which is great for keeping track of my cycling and running. Not to mention has tons of data to…
  • Am in Berkshire but spend a lot of time cycling in and around Surrey as that's where a lot of my mates are based. Oh and hello!

  • Hello and welcome! You're in the right place, am yet to find a better site to keep track of your eating and exercise, great bunch of people to offer support and advice too.
  • If they didn't think you could do the job you wouldn't have the interview. The interview is to confirm / reject the belief you can do the job, to see if you 'fit' as has already been mentioned and to see if you actually want it. I've turned down a candidate after the "why do you want to work here?" question. Make the…

  • Fish is good to mix things up a bit, especially if you steer away from cod or salmon. Got some monk fish the other day, plan on doing a curry with that - yum! Meals tend to be a case of "what's in the fridge/cupboard?" and "what do I want to eat?" so tend not to stick to a plan. If I'm really stuck I stick some ingredients…
  • Always good to have more UK friends - feel free to add me (that goes for everyone)
  • Hmmm, if you ask me all of those are a tad high but I guess it'd depend on the terrain you ride. I use Strava to log my endeavours both on and off road, my last ride was 63 minutes, covered 15.1 miles (average of 14.2mph) and incorporated 980ft of climbing and the app calculated that as a 1081kcal burn. Gross that up for…
  • Google maps would do you fairly well here too, but mapmyrun would be the quickest way to find out what other people have logged in the area. Hope you have a good holiday!
  • Shoes are very important - but you've already worked that out from the earlier posts. The other key areas are hydration and nutrition, you need to make sure your body is getting the right fuel not only to perform but also to recover. You may need to adjust your diet to really get the best from your training and also feel…

  • You need to consider your whole nutrition plan rather than just water intake. Could be worth using electrolyte drinks with some carbs in too, or maybe a recovery drink for some additional protein (milk works well too), maybe even an energy bar beforehand? If it keeps happening then you need to see a professional about it.
  • GPS apps are pretty accurate now, all down to the hardware in your phone but very comparable to the likes of a Garmin. Obviously the functionality is vastly different but the GPS trace should be the same.

  • Yes MFP does get a little over excited where it comes to calories! I use the data from the Strava app as it's less although the only way to be accurate is to get a monitor. I guess then you can also keep in the fat burning zone too.
  • Hello! Everyone should embrace their inner geek! While I'm not a techie I work in Tech so it's great to get involved in the new stuff - got a bit techie in a meeting the other day and I ended up going over to work with a few developers for a bit - heaven!

  • You're doing great, have been trying to stay put while injured so my scales haven't moved in weeks! Very much a bike related injury, not entirely sure what happened but it involved a tabletop on a trail we've been riding for ages, about 25mph of speed with a huge part played by the ground. Handily we ride as a group as the…

  • Err, newbury :o) Have lived in Early, Tilehurst, Calcot and Southcote in the 9 years I spent in Reading though.
  • Seeing as you're counting anything RG then I'm in (newbury)
  • you're not alone! :o) anyway, back on point - sat in an air conditioned office at the mo but will soon be heading home on a very hot bus. feel free to add ..... goes without saying really, but we're British so we have to say because we couldn't possibly assume as that'd be impolite :o)
