I only use barbells for deadlifts and squats...much prefer dumbells for everything else

Im currently a senior in college and i gained about 5 lbs freshman year. The main thing for me was not dining hall food, but rather alcohol...which led to eating out. Numerous times after drinking (sometimes up to 5 nights a week) my roomates and I would order food and eat it guilt free. Once I stopped doing that, I lost…

I would reccomend choosing about 3 gyms and then signing up for a week trial in each. The most important thing is that you find an enviornment which you are comfortable so you will be motivated to go to. A week should be more than enough time to get a good feel for a gym and see if it is right for you!

You definetly need some more protein. Get closer to a gram per pound of body weight. A popular option for woman is greek yogurt, very high in protien relative to calories, just make sure you watch your sugar. My favorite is just a whey protein shake, 25 grams of protein for only 140 calories..ill take it

Running outside and running on the treadmill are completly different. Your heart rate may be lower now due to your conditioning, but it you want to improve your time i suggest always pushing it at a higher rate and your body will be forced to adapt. Your target HR depends on your goal. For running a marathon in the…

The Burpee is the single most effective exercise for burning fat in my opinion. For really quick results, time yourself and see how fast you can do 100, then beat it every day

The "why" behind why a gram of fat is 9 calories instead of 4? The easy version is just that a gram of fat contains more energy then a gram of carbs or protein (a calorie is a unit of energy). In a test that is done to measure calories (caloromitry), you pretty much light food on fire and see how much remains after a time…

^^This. The reason people see drastic results between "healthy" and "unhealthy" foods is simply their nutritional value. For example Drinking 2000 calories of beer and eating 2000 of quality whole foods has a completley different effect on your body. Your body has certain foods it will process more effeciently then others.…

4, just like Protein. So-- Carb:4 kcal, Protein:4 kcal, Fat:9 kcal
-
Yea it should automatically be set to the correct values. The difference in protein and fats at the same percentage is due to the fact a gram of fat is 9 calories, while a gram of protein is 4.

I hear hanging from a pullup bar for 6 hours straight works

You can't spot reduce belly fat. All you can do is reduce your overall body fat. If you arent seeing results from your current diet/exercise routine, you either need to reduce your calories or increase your exercise even more

Most soreness is caused by lactic acid build up in the muscle. One of the best ways to speed up lactic acid removal is light-moderate cardio. Getting the blood flowing will help relieve some of the pain. You can also try a foam roller, many people find it helpful for the specific problem areas. Most importantly, make sure…

There are many methods of measuring BF, with the most accurate ones being the most expensive. Calipers will give you a rough estimate and are pretty cheap. If you want a very accurate measurement, I would suggest contacting the nearest University with a Kinesiology department. Many of them will have a "Bod Pod" and may let…

Some of it is genetics, but many bodybuilders train to have a high bicep peak. This means actually alot of them want to obtain a baseball looking bicep, because it will look larger when flexed. I agree that it does look strange and its not very aesthetic

The only one I dont agree with is the training split. I lifted for two years on an upper/lower split with little results...then switched to one body part per week and saw an instant change (drug free of course). Different splits work for differently for everyone. There is no method set in stone that will be effective for…

You can never spot reduce fat. And you don't need to avoid carbs while dieting, just make sure you are below your maintinence levels every day. Low carb diets have been effective in helping people shed fat quickly, but most of it gain them back once they start eating normal foods again. This is because their body gets…

All about calories in vs. calories burned. When trying to meake "lean" gains, I take my maintinence calories and add ~350. That being said, I think you estimate of 200g of protein will be very effective for you. But remember carbs and healthy fats and very important as well. Its always helpful to snack on nuts when trying…

People say diet soda is dangerous because of aspartame. However, the studies that have shown it causes cancer were done on rats, and they were given a outrageous amount of it. I would reccoment checking out this video on the topic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdiY5SoWzNg

Congrats! Always a good feeling

I have found a helpful macro formula for weight loss is 40% Protein, 40% Carbs, 20% (unsaturated) Fats. For this site, I would suggest adjusting your goals to get at least 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. After you hit that requirement, just adjust your carbs and fats accordingly. As far as sugars go, try…

No method is ever going to be exact. When trying to work it into your diet, its always better to estimate as low as possible so you dont eat more then you should. I personally never worry about calories burned from exercise because its just too variable.

Like people have said, try adjusting the seat and handle bar position. When sitting on the bike your knees should be at a 5 degree bend, and raise the bar to a comfortable position.
