  • Yes, I do. My weigh in day is Saturday and as both Christmas and New Year (and my birthday!) are all on Saturdays I will be weighing in on the holiday days themselves.
  • I finally ditched my boring mates and learnt how to snowboard which was something I had always wanted to do but to nervous to go alone. In the end I went alone, had a blast and gained a new hobby.
  • Count me in. I'm up early as I have to work Christmas morning and could probably do with earning a few more calories for my Christmas lunch.
  • Bread, Cheese, Alcohol, Potatoes and Red meat have all been cut down (or in the case of alcohol, cut out completely) and haven't been missed from my new diet. And this is coming from someone who used to thing nothing of having 2 cheese on toast sandwiches (two slices of toasted bread with a fair amount of cheese between…
  • Like Sinbad I have also given up alcohol since starting with MFP. I walk alot at work (I work in a hospital where being on my feet and moving for 8 hours straight isn't abnormal) and think nothing of going for a 3 mile run when I get home. I'm finding myself getting really tetchy with my family on days when I don't…
  • We have pretty similar stories. I'm a 6ft 3, male aged 25 and I too lost 19lbs in the first 4 weeks, since then I have managed to lose a further 34lbs over the last few months averaging a loss of 3lbs a week fairly consistantly by making sure that my intake is around the 1200 a day without exercise. it is possible to…
  • Like 'Buzz said, as long as the scale is going in the right direction just keep doing what you are doing. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Take your time, don't beat yourself up and try to enjoy it.
  • Its difficult to choose but there are 5 I like to watch around Christmas which are (in no order of preference): Lethal Weapon Die Hard Gremlins Nightmare Before Christmas Home Alone I realise that only one of those seemingly has anything to do with Christmas but the rest all take place at Christmas which is good enough to…
  • My 3 tips: 1) Find an exercise you enjoy that can be done with people you enjoy spending time with. For example: Jogging can be quite lonely, just you, your ipod (or mp3 player), the road and nothing driving you but your own determination. If you can get involved in a sport or a class the other people exercising alongside…
  • "You're the best around" by Joe Esposito (Karate Kid Theme) is my power song and always gives me a good kick up the butt to work harder. Additional songs that get me moving are "Through fire and flames" by Dragonforce, "Eye of the tiger" by Survivor and "Shook me like a prayer" (cross between Madonna's "like a prayer" and…
  • I posted these in a topic previously but I think they are still valid: Your clothes don't fit so you buy new ones, but then need to go shopping again a few weeks later as the new clothes also no longer fit. You're able to turn down a dessert because you don't want it. You enjoy exercising and get really grumpy when you…
  • To reach my target by 1st Jan 2011 (10lbs to go) and start converting what is left into muscle!
  • Your clothes don't fit so you buy new ones, but then need to go shopping again a few weeks later as the new clothes also no longer fit. You're able to turn down a dessert because you don't want it. You enjoy exercising and get really grumpy when you miss a day for some reason. You start getting approving looks/smiles from…
  • I know how you feel. The weather here in Yorkshire has also been rubbish preventing me from exercising, on top of that I've been ill and haven't been able to leave the house since Tuesday missing 2 friends birthdays in the process! On the brightside, my eating has remained under control and I managed to lose 3lbs despite…
  • I eat at approximately the same time each day, including weekends: 7am, 12-1pm & 5-6pm. I've found that eating this way has gotten me into a routine and I don't crave food as much as my body knows roughly when to expect its next intake.
  • I exercise more in winter than I do in summer! I am always warm and overheat very easily in even a mild temperature, the colder the better for me.
  • Saying "No" to someone will always be tough, but you have to stick to your guns. I get taken out for lunches a fair amount as part of my job where people are always asking me if I want a dessert and look hurt when I politely decline to have one. Recently a colleague of mine was relentless, all through the meal she was…
  • Congrats! I also passed the 200lb mark recently. The feeling of seeing that first digit change to a 1 is amazing, well done!
  • Welcome. You have roughly the same goals that I had when I started and from the sounds of things a pretty similar build. If you have any questions feel free to friend me. H

  • Go with the HRM, it will more accurately record how much effort you put into your exercise. For example, I play football (soccer) weekly with a friend who is also trying to lose weight. MFP would say that if we played for the same length of time we would burn calories in ratio to our weights, which is fair enough if we put…
  • So far whilst I've been measuring my waist size I've been using my belly button as a 'landmark' and measuring across it to make sure I'm in the same place each time and I've either lost inches or remained constant with each measurement.
  • I just read this exact same topic on MSN lol.
  • Hey, My goal for the month is to try and get into a 'healthy' BMI which for my height would be 200lbs, any more than that would be a bonus. Anyway, as I weigh in on a Saturday morning: SW (Oct 30th): 208lbs CW (Nov 6th): 206lbs GW (Nov 27th): <200lbs
  • Congrats! Reaching the halfway point is a huge milestone (I myself reached it last week) and really makes a difference to your confidence. Well done!
  • I play squash with a friend that has asthma, he tends to use his inhaler before we start playing and leaves it somewhere visible so that if required either one of us can get to it should he need it but he is the first to admit that since we started playing regularly his asthma has improved drastically. The only difference…
  • As the other posters have said, stretch out the offending muscles and then treat them to a soak in a very warm bath. My right thigh has been tight since Wednesday and each day I have done the above. Whilst it may not have gone away immediately it does feel less tight each day.
  • I won't work out after eating unless there is a minimum of a 2 hours gap between finishing the meal and starting exercise, I just feel better during the exercise this way. If I've already exercised I'm quite happy to begin a meal anything from 30 mins later, as long as I have cooled down I'll always be ready for food!
  • Hitsujikai is how you would say my surname in Japanese.
  • Congrats! I'm in the exact same situation. I did my first 30 min 5k running/walking earlier this evening and feel I could have done it all running if I weren't fighting off a cold. My advice is try to run a little further each time you go out and try to beat your previous time. My next goals are to complete the 5k in…
  • I made it a rule only to weigh myself first thing on a Saturday morning as I joined the site and started using the app on a Saturday.
