I wish I could walk the course; but, at my age and living on an insulin pump, I just can't do it. Nonetheless, MFP's data base shows a typical round (4 hours) of golf burns off about 1200 calories. If I can get rid of 1200 calories and 5 strokes I'll be a happy old man. :D

The weather has finally broken, the cold is gone (hopefully until next winter), and the sun is shining. I expect I will take the convertible out of hibernation today. My motto is: If it's 40° and the sun is shining then the top is down. Well, it's 51° out right now. I started this journey on 12/27/14 and am down 23 lbs. to…

Preparing for the time change isn't something I worry about. I generally go to bed between midnight and 2 a.m. as I'm not under any pressure to awake at any particular time; although, I do try to get out of bed by 8 a.m. If I get tired on Sunday I will take an afternoon nap. Retirement gives one the luxury of "working the…

Real honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about exercise and counting calories during a bout with pneumonia. I would worry about eating healthy foods that satisfy your hunger and getting over the pneumonia 100%. Then, get to the aquatic center, eat the 1200 calories (mostly healthy, of course) and get back to losing weight.…

Hello. My name is Don. As I tell my family practice doctor, my endocrinologist, my cardiologist, my urologist and my nephrologist, I am the healthiest 69 year old, insulin dependent (insulin pump), cancer surviving, quadruple by-pass patient with chronic kidney disease any of them have. Aside from those few health problems…

I hadn't really thought of a reward; but, I suspect I will have to buy new slacks with a 34" waist - down from the 38" waists I had been putting some pressure on. (They are now too large!!!) I've lost 19 pounds since Christmas and want to drop another 18 - 25.

Nothing of the food variety will be involved other than eating normal meals at home. However, what I will be doing is driving about 120 miles round trip to look at 2 cars my granddaughter, age 24, is considering buying. She asked me for my suggestions on buying a used car so I've done a lot of research on what's available…

Having just read what ANS is, I would think you wouldn't want to do anything without first consulting your doctor. That said, if you're able to live on an 1100 calorie/day intake without going nuts, I suspect you couldn't help but lose weight. It may only be 1/2 - 1 pound a week; but, perseverance will pay off. Good luck.

Yes you can! I've lost 16 pounds since 12/27/14 and expect to loose another 15 - 20 by April 1st. I eat about 1900 calories/day and do some intense cardio burning off 1200 calories/day. I'm 69 years old, use an insulin pump, have had quad by-pass surgery and am a cancer survivor. If I can finally get the inspiration to…

I ate the whole thing....that is, I ate the entire "bowl" of Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowl - Ultimate Butter Popcorn for dinner last night. Even with its 400 calories, I only ate 1697 calories yesterday. After my exercise which burned off 995 of those calories, I still netted 0nly 702 calories for the day. Yes, that was…

I'm 69 and have lost 15 pounds since 12/27/14. I have another 20 to go and will reach it by about the end of March. I am eating an average of 1900 calories/day and burning (according to the readout) about 1200 calories/day doing 60 minutes/day on an exercise bike. When we eat out, I now look up the restaurant's menu…

I have a recumbent style exercise bike. It has a display that includes time, speed and calories among other things as well as a tension adjusting knob. I've set the tension to what seems reasonable. I've been working at this for a month as of yesterday. I've been averaging 60 minutes/day on the cycle and burning an average…

I have a serious recommendation for getting that nasty tasting gut flush down. Mix it with orange juice of the no pulp variety. I was told I could drink it to get rid of the taste so I asked why I couldn't mix them together. Well, the doc had no problem with that. Is it a perfect solution? No. But, it was a whole lot…

Amazing difference. Congratulations on the result of your hard work.

You misunderstand the principle. Assuming you have entered the correct information (weight, goal, pounds to lose per week, etc.) and the site has indicated a 1200 calorie per day diet will allow you to reach your goal. it means a net of 1200 calories after adding in your exercise is what it will take. The 1200 calorie…
