Hmmm... I guess I'm thankful I don't live in the USA. Being Canadian I don't understand the need to carry a weapon at all, unless your intentions are bad to begin with. I also live in a urban area so there is no wildlife to fear. I have never seen a gun, other than in a holster for a cop and mase is illegal to purchase…

I log Fruit, due to natural sugars, are about 100 calories per, which adds up. Veggies i don't really track, just guesstimate the calories and do a quick add. It saves my sanity as I'm not spending a lot of time logging low calorie foods.

Record your exercise and eat back your calories burned. Also your weekly goal is agressive if you calories before working out is 1200. You might want to adjust your overall goal to something more reasonable, so you actually have a chance of hitting your goal. In MFP when you record your activity it will add the calories…

Tons of posts about carrying mace and 1 advocate of carrying a gun. Why not try running in a safer area or indoors?? My treadmill is pretty safe, the only thing I have to worry about is if someone who hasn't showered in weeks and is wearing a cut off (exposing armpits) jumps on the machine beside me. I think prevention is…

Everyone's version of fit is different. For some they want the bobybuilder look and have no neck, some view fit as their ability to perform a given activity (running, biking, soccer, hockey etc). There is no wrong, just what you prefer. I don't think it's rocket science to anyone on here that endurance athletes are on the…

The ones who don't firmly believe that "carbs are the devil". Carbs are calorie intensive foods and by cutting out this source of energy you instantly make hitting calorie targets difficult. The carbs are replaced by veggies which are mostly water and low cal. In addition they prob choose a cleaner meat that is leaner,…

burn calories for it to work?? I have no clue what he means by that. Protein powder is a supplement for protein which could be found in you diet naturally. Protein shakes are taken post workout because it kick starts recovery and is immediately delivered to muscles. Essentially you can take protein supplements whenever you…

Couple things... we are talking about Zumba aka dancing. I don't think it matters what the instructors looks like, you can be doing much more efficient cardio with your time. As for instructors. If we are talking classes, I think I would care more about their ability to perform/deliver in their specific class (IE: I…

Eat your calories burned. At 1200 calories, netting out your workout, your body is only functioning on 800ish calories a day. Stop trying to lose 50lbs in 1 week. Set up your weight loss to lose max 1.5 LBS a week. After a bit of time, once your body is no longer fighting to hold onto calories, you will drop LBS. This 1200…

Rest days depend on your workout. You want to give your muscles atleast 72 hours to recover from a workout. Most people just spot train so that they can workout every day. IE work different muscles groups on different days. I usually workout 4 times a week and take 2 days of full rest (where I literally do nothing). I also…

EAT MORE. It sounds counter intuitive but you are sabotaging your diet. You are consuming 1500ish calories and for some reason you aren't eating back any of the calories burned working out. There are tons of ppl on here who want to rush weight loss, so what they do is they consume the magic 1200 calories (to avoid…

did mine today... had no clue what it was before. I am 124 over 66 with a resting heart rate of 56

You're not crazy. I eat Subway atleast 3 times a week (and have dropped 18LBS and my BF is down to 8.7%). It's right by my work and is quick and easy. I usually get a footlong ham on whole wheat bread. If I want a lean meal I do not get cheese (saves me 100 calories) and I always load it with veggies (lettuce, tomatoes,…

I literally have money riding on St Louis to win the cup. I also had Boston in a playoff pool. Being a Leaf fan, I swalloed a lot pride to pick Boston and they rewarded me by playing like garbage and losing to an AHL goalie (anyone can look like a superstar stopping wrist shots from the blueline). I'm now rooting for a…

Allmax Isoflex. 110 calories with 27g of protein. I drink it with water, it's tastes ok, nothing special (most protein drinks are like that). There are hundreds of varieties. Generally you get what you pay for. Unless buying on sale or in Bulk, if the price looks too good to be true it's generally because the product isn't…

I understand the concern, but reading the first page of posts I couldn't help but feel bad for the OP. The main issue with dropping below 1200 calories is that you are less likely to fuel your body with all the nutrients it requires. This can be alleviated/mitigated with a multi vitamin or by having a very lean but strict…

There are ways to be supportive without crushing someone who is making a change in their life and is excited about their progress in the first 5 days. The intentions aren't bad but how the message is delivered is. Here is more on Starvation Mode/Diets (this is a blog... not medical):…

Tons of hate/concern on this thread. She didn't ask your opinion on her calorie intake. She simply asked how much weight you have lost and over what period. Information is power: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/reference_calorie.asp People here are a little much and tend to force their opinions/knowledge on others…

They actually sell powder flavouring at your grocery store. It's like 60 calories per pouch of seasoning. There are tons of flavours, sour cream and onion, ketchup, dill pickle, bbq etc...

#toughlife. This is easy. Grab a bag a chips or ice cream or cookies or candy and eat 300 calories worth. Don't want the fats, eat a granola bar (2 should do the trick), almonds, 3 servings of fruit. The options are endless. Eat food... any food. Why is this a forum, it's not rocket science.

Shin splints are caused from hard and excessive impact. You shoes can help but it won't eliminate the problem. How you run, your stride, and the surface that you are running on will have the largest impact. The three things that can prevent shin splints: 1)The surface - the harder the surface the greater the risk (try…

Personal trainers are a waste of money. Their "expertise" consists of a basic weekend course that covers anatomy. Most personal trainers have very little actual knowledge about the human body and how it performs. You can easily learn this on your own by reading some books or doing an online search. As for learning…

**Spoiler Alert** Sawshank redemption (favourite movei of all time) Warden Samuel Norton: Lord! It's a miracle! Man up and vanished like a fart in the wind! (just before he throws a mini figurine at the picture blocking the hole in the wall) Or Red: These walls are funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em.…

Love 300. You got me excited. I'm going to watch it tonight. Queen Gorgo: Spartan! King Leonidas: Yes, my lady? Queen Gorgo: Come back with your shield, or on it. Or: Dilios: Immortals... we put their name to the test. Or: King Leonidas: [on being told the Persians are coming to parley] Captain, I leave you in charge.…

Couple things. There are some risks: Specifically with bone fusion as body is still developing and muscle growth may limit body from developing properly. The second is stunted growth (Doesn't seem to be an issue for your son who is 6' tall). Advice is divided. Knowing that your son is new to weight training most of the…

Doesn't happen too often, I usually have 1 cheat day every once and a while. This weekend I had 3 conseuctive cheat days. Hockey playoffs, UFC and a family event that yielded enough cookies and sweets to end world hunger really spiked my calorie intake. Today, I'm back on the wagon, mainly because over the course of the…

pre-workout, I take a clif bar, it's an energy bar that is well balanced, organic, and has enough carbs to energize your workout. Post workout I take a post recovery formula. It's similar to a protein whey only it has some added benefits. A regular protein when will work. You just want to give your body some carbs and…

bodybuilding.com Don't be scared from the name. On this site you can choose a workout that fits your goals. This site also has tons of information and articles on fitness and nutrition. I would also check the livestrong website (google search).

I wouldn't take a protein shake as a meal replacement. Those are two separate things. A protein powder only deliver proteins (some BCAA's) and some carbs (depends on brand), but doesn't deliver the nutrients that only a well balanced meal can deliver. If you want a shake in the morning I would blend/mix milk (9g of protein…
