Welcome. Not sure how I missed this.

I wasn't speaking negatively about it. There's nothing wrong with sharing what you're doing and finding a program that motivates you. There's a lot of the primal way of things that appeals to me.

Is the basic outline of what you would be doing this one?

I am very wary of Atkins bars. They tend to use a lot of maltitol. Even ignoring the gut issues it can cause, it has an effect on blood sugar and acts a lot more like sugar than most other artificial sweeteners. I wouldn't subtract it at all. Those bars would be 16.9 grams of carbs in my calculations. If you do, I would…

@baconslave I hope you don't mind, but I unpinned this.

Just to address this, one of these fats is probably better than the other. But, I am willing to bet you think it's the avocado. It's actually the grease from the cheese and meat on the pizza. The best fats are saturated animal fats. Avocado and some other plant oils like olive oil are probably fine. They're definitely a…

I was watching a random youtube video (irrelevant to this conversation) and they were talking about NASA's numbers for oxygen requirements. They had a screenshot of this PDF "Design Rules for Life Support Systems". What caught my attention was the other side of the page. It included this comment: Do you see those numbers?…

I would share mine, but I don't log. I am a strict carnivore these days (well for going on five years now). I eat meat to hunger. I don't weigh anything or count anything. My diary today would be "ground beef and NY strip steak with a small handful of cheese." The amount of each meat is probably a pound, but it could be…

Let me quote Ash Simmonds on how he determines his calories: That's as close as he comes to counting. And, he never restricts. I am opposed to calorie restriction as a weight loss method. You'll find my ranting about it here.…

I was just having this conversation with someone who is going keto and had three weekly weigh-ins where his scale didn't move. He was worried about it being a stall. I urged him to change nothing and explained that he didn't have nearly enough data-points to draw a conclusion. Let's not even talk about the fact that three…
-
Relax. This is normal. It doesn't mean you aren't losing weight. Just the scale playing tricks. Keep calm. Keto on.
-
Stalls are broken by time and staying the course. They aren't broken by quick tricks. Also, as was said, you aren't even on a stall. I was just showing someone how I had 5 consecutive weigh ins where my weight was up, but I was losing the whole time. Ignore the scale.

You're also male, which makes it more likely to work for you. There's a lot of variance with stuff like this, but if someone is struggling with fasting (especially if they're a woman) it doesn't mean that something is wrong and they should push-through. Maybe it means that IF isn't for their body.
-
I know, I know, I usually leave my anti-IF ranting in the carnivore group, but I can't help myself. If you're struggling with IF, the problem isn't with you. It's the IF. https://tim.blog/2008/03/03/real-life-extension-caloric-restriction-or-intermittent-fasting-part-2/ Alright, I promise. No more anti-IF rants in here.…

Right but the first study said there was an increased area under the curve, meaning glucose went up and stayed up longer. Going high (say 170) and dropping fast is better than going less high (say 160) and taking a while to return to baseline.

No one has ever adequately explained to me how denying your body the nutrients it asks for (hunger) is supposed to lead to better health and better appetite control over time. It seems like refusing to eat when you're hungry is just going to train your body to complain more often and louder when it needs something. I'm not…

I sent you a request. Anyone can send me a request also.

This whole thing is a decent read. It's pretty anti-low carb, but it does get the calorie information right. Interesting thing that I learned while reading about the stuff mentioned in this article, the person who popularized the idea of counting calories was also promoting intermittent fasting way back then. While I find…

Here is an article that I ran across today: https://medium.com/bloomberg-view/the-case-against-counting-calories-aff71ee021ee Warning: You'll need to create an account to read this, but it is free. I have included quotes below. All emphasis is mine. In short, it's about the quality and not the quantity when it comes to…

Goat was my college nickname, and it has stuck with me into adulthood. I hated it, at first, but it grew on me. FIT has a dual meaning, but the most important one is that I intend to be fit.

I don't think the purpose of people pointing out the problems with these foods is about morality. It is about exercising caution with these processed products because they are often trouble foods or include trouble ingredients for many people. Some people really are sensitive enough that the artificial sweeteners and…

I am well known for my anti-calorie counting/restriction opinions. I don't count. I encourage others to not count.

I do it for migraines. Mine were bad. Pain, yes. Vision loss/blurring, yes. Nausea, every time. Light and sound sensitivity, you betcha. As I got older, they reduced in number. I still got 2-3 a year. Manageable enough to stay off drugs. And I got an aura well enough in advance to call out or leave work/school. I went…

I seriously recommend watching the video on Eat-Rite on this page. https://www.dietdoctor.com/why-you-should-never-trust-a-low-carb-label It shows how badly some products can be mislabelled and how no one is really checking. Even when someone does test the product and finds the label to be massively out of compliance,…

Nutrition labels are notoriously inaccurate anyway, and no one even checks most of them. The law allows something like up to 20% error. Then there are rounding rules, which introduce more uncertainty. https://health.usnews.com/health-news/blogs/eat-run/2012/08/21/when-nutrition-labels-lie So, the best idea is to be…

So many new people in the last week. I am bumping this.

I miss the old ability to set macros in grams, but not enough to pay for it in the premium MFP version.

I was trying to find my CICO/loss-rate graph. It might be lost to time. But, there is a really cool lack of relationship between the numbers at points. The lack of relationship certainly comes from the complete inability to actually know the CICO numbers in any accurate manner.
