  • Is there any particular reason you decided to go the diet pill route? IMO, this sort of thing does not fit into a lifestyle change paradigm, and is therefore not sustainable. IOW, what you're trying to do is change your eating and exercise habits to be more healthy so you can be at a healthy weight and maintain there, and…
  • I don't see why not. Cardio is cardio, regardless o how you go about it.
  • MFP sets your protein numbers low. Try to eat 1 gram of protein per lb of lean body mass. Then fill in the rest of the numbers. It's okay to go over or under by a little, but try to hit your calorie goal for the day. Do not undereat. Faster isn't necessarily better or more sustainable, when it comes to weight loss.
  • Breast milk/formula and water. A little prune juice when she got constipated. Now, at 2 1/2, she drinks water and milk. It's better to stay clear of juices and just let them eat fruit instead.
  • Most of Bob Harper's videos from the Inside Out method are low impact, or can be modified to be low impact (like doing squats instead plyo squats).
  • Night. Because of the Olympics, I don't even get started until midnight these days. Sleep is definitely suffering.
  • No doubt it takes a lot of skill to perform (or rather, to get your horse to perform) at that high a level, but I wouldn't call that athleticism. One can be utterly and completely out of shape, and still ride horses just fine (I know several).
  • I've been packing lunch for DH, and here are a few things I've been sending for him. Quinoa with chickpeas. In a little olive oil, sautee some chopped onions, ginger, garlic, a can of chick peas, enough broth/boullion/water to cook quinoa, the quinoa, and cook until almost done. With about 5 minutes to go, add whatever…

  • Exactly! Studies have shown that on the whole, people that are breakfast skippers tend to have less favorable BMI, and that it tends to help people not get so ravenously hungry that they overconsume (in an non-calorie restricted setting). If you're not one of those people, then you don't need to eat breakfast. My personal…
  • I put in my own recipes, look up nutritional information for myself, etc. There is not a lot that's not in the database, as far as I can tell.
  • Unless you overate by 28000 cals, you did not gain 4 kilos in fat. In order to figure Out what you should be eating, it is important to know your TDEE and maybe your BMR. There are lots of online calculators that will give you estimates.
  • Yoga, meditation, dance to your favorite music, a long soak in the tub, read a book, get a massage....
  • How about if you use recipes from some place like skinnytaste.com to get you started on recipes and ideas? It will take some of the scariness out of figuring out how to make healthy substitutes for things your family loves.
  • Eat the higher fat/calorie versions? Add some nut butter and maybe some avocado to your smoothie, snack on nuts, in general, eat more calorie dense foods.
  • Half a sugar plum. DD mooched the other half.
  • I don't like to cook, and there is no way I'm cooking more than one meal for 3 people. If they don't like what I make, they're welcome to make something for themselves (kinda hard on the 2 year old). Or not eat.
  • Somewhere between 0 and your allottment for the day. Whatever makes it easy for you to stay in compliance with your calorie goals.
  • This is by no means exhaustive. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11319656 http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=873508 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19943985 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20339363 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17909674 ( I put this one in there because…
  • I totally expected to be a gymnast or something because of my height, but was most like a (male) marathon runner. And in close proximity to a high jumper (Things that make you go Hmmmm... how high can someone that's 5'1" jump?) and a weight lifter. That was cool.
  • It's one thing to say that there are studies, quite another to cite your sources. If you do the latter, you're less likely to run into problems with skeptics. People find different ways to eat that help them stay on track - eat frequently, eat infrequently, IF, low carb,, low fat, vegan, whatever. At the end of the day,…
  • I have a 2 1/2 year old, and she can do a mile, mile and a half easy. My nephew at your daughter's age was doing 2 or 3, and I know several kids that age that can go longer. Work up to it, and pick interesting spots to walk in so she won't get bored. If you end up hauling her a bit, consider it a bonus. As for DVDs, you…
  • Man, I must be the size of a small whale by now, 'cause I break pretty much every one of these. There really is no scientific basis for these claims. 1. I eat 500+ calorie meals. Sometimes, I eat 1000+ calorie meals. I'm 41, and weigh 110 lbs. or thereabouts. 2. I follow IF. Which means that I eat no breakfast fairly…
  • After you cook, can you put away the extra for the next day, so there isn't so much for him to eat? Or make lots of veggies and less of everything else? And maybe don't buy the frozen yogurt. You can make a fruit smoothie without it. Maybe add some protein powder or greek yogurt, and sweeten with stevia or honey if…
  • Unless you overate by 14000 cals, you didn't gain that much fat. Some of it could be water weight from excessive sodium intake or hormone fluctuations.
  • Eat more caloriedensefoods. Nuts, nut butters, avocado, etc.
  • I find some of the metal ones to be harder on my hands. For instance, doing a pushup into a row is a lot less pleasant on my hands when I'm balanced on the metal dumbbells.
  • Thanks to this thread, now I have 13 more books coming. YAY!
  • Was very, very good. I had given up on him for a while. Just finished Roadside Crosses by Jeffrey Deaver (so-so). About to start Beverly Connor's Dust to Dust. Still working my way thrrough Starting Strength.
  • Most days, nothing. Doesn't get any lower calorie than that.
  • I have a fussy eater of a friend who basically lives on Frozen Pizza (not kidding, he only eats Tony's plain cheese). He is a runner, and has completed several marathons without significantly altering his diet, other than eating more of the same crap. When he is in training for marathons, he loses a crapton of weight, says…
