  • Works to build repeat customers. I will knock them for how bad their program has harmed the health of so many while they rake in billions in profits.... Ok, shutting up and slinking back to my corner now. Sorry.
  • ^EXACTLY!!!! If a food hurts us, maybe the "love" should be re-evaluated.
  • I think the advice that potatoes are ok on Whole30 will be a disservice for most people in need of doing a Whole30. Most definitely that is personal choice though. What's the difference if they are fries fried in tallow? Basically people who have issues with fries, like myself, would be wise to avoid potatoes entirely.
  • On Whole30, white potatoes are now "approved"? Wow, I can see that leading to poor results for many people.
  • You gave them more of your hard-earned money? :'( Yes, welcome back!
  • Just be warned, if he doesn't cut the sugar substantially, his cravings will never abate. So, support him but don't have expectations (easier said than done!).
  • Um... well, Paleo worked for me, until it didn't. But I never got totally lean. Interestingly, people that are eating only animal foods report a drastic reduction in body fat (and body size, but not necessarily scale weight) just with the dietary change and no added exercise. Looking at pictures of some of them that say…
  • Even when I was Paleo (I still think I'm Paleo but....) if I needed more calories it was beneficial to add more animal foods (meat, fat), not necessarily nuts. Weight loss plateau? Definitely don't recommend nuts. But experiment.
  • Stress hurts YOU. You can only do you. Model how to be as healthy as possible to him, and otherwise love him, support him, but do not enable him. As in don't buy those things for him (stop buying anything but healthy foods to bring into the house), serve only the healthiest meals, don't make separate meals/dishes for him,…
  • Not a big nut fan... but it's sad to see people refering to their high caloric value as a reason to avoid them. Macadamias are the healthiest of the nuts, so if one wants to eat nuts, they should be prefered imo. And I don't mean the roasted and salted ones!
  • Don't torture youself! Now that I have a lifestyle that is even more culturally unacceptable than Paleo (I wouldn't have thought that possible) I'm just going to avoid the general forums completely. Even in more like-minded FB groups, I have gotten very good at not letting curiousity get to me. For instance if I posted…

  • It's the FOOD. I promise there is a way to enjoy cooking without being obsessive about numbers. But the "it's only calories in and calories out" people won't agree. Strangely, humans have only been counting calories since about the 1970s and yet obesity has only gone up and up. Even with people avoiding meat and fat and…
  • There is nothing you can do if he refuses to change. It doesn't take much information to know that cereal and donuts are not beneficial. I'm suspecting he eats lots of sugar even though he knows better. That's his choice. All you have power over is YOU. Set an example, eat as healthily as possible most of the time. If you…
  • I'm sure the fermented veggies and kefir (homemade) helped when I ate it in the past, but once balance is good it seems pretty easy to maintain barring eating junk or taking antibiotics. I also still use Green Pastures fermented cod liver oil/butter oil fairly regularly. I am now eating only animals and my digestive system…
  • the great Paleo exception: alcohol. lol I like wine too, but don't make the mistake of excusing and justifying it. It really negatively impacts health and weight loss for most people.
  • So bulimia harms the body... what did you think gastric bypass surgery would do to your body? It is a life threatening surgery, and many people who have had it have many ongoing health problems because of it. But I haven't had the surgery; just cured BED by changing the food I eat. I hope you can figure out how to eat that…
  • There is nothing wrong with an animal based diet long term for women (I'm sure there are some health issues these days that have created exceptions to that). So for someone who is still showing very much metabolic problems on 30 grams of carbs (and spent over a year trying to moderate carbs and eat more and has gotten…
  • ^if there is a bad smell there is still something going on. Perhaps your gut flora isn't terrific? Something I mentioned in my message too. I was Paleo for years and had huge improvements, but not everything as it turns out.
  • How many people poop repeatedly throughout the day? Unless I'm sick it's once or rarely twice, early morning most often and occasionally evening. I'm very uncomfortable in shared washrooms; I use them as little as possible. Germs, stink (poop and perfume), toxic soap... but I guess it's just me then. I just wish they'd eat…
  • If you are speaking to me, yes it is. I stopped under-eating long ago. My emotional/stress issues are also much affected by the food I choose. What's worked for many others didn't fully work for me, and I think 3 years is giving it a pretty good shot. Nothing wrong with trying something else that has worked for some others…
  • <BED as well, but most of that cleared up with very low carb Paleo. It is my opinion that I was malnourished so my body never gave the signal to stop eating. So many health problems have been eliminated or reduced. When I went Paleo, I did very well for the first year and a bit. Consistenly lost, fended off the bingeing by…
  • Been trying to get into the office bathroom all morning... finally get in there. Gag. Do people not poop at home? Do they intentionally wait until they get to work? And jeez, judging by the stench, most of my co-workers are absolutely rotten inside. :s (My contribution to a TMI Thursday instead of Tuesday....) I think…
  • It's not the fats that are the problem with nuts... "Fattening"? It's the SUGAR (and processed foods) that's fattening. Paleo is not about avoiding fat... or eating as few calories as possible. :'(
  • Well, since we all started counting calories (was it back in the 1960s or 1970s?) obesity rates have certainly not improved; quite the opposite. In human ancestry, morbid obesity was rare before people were basing their diets on high carb processed foods or were able to count calories. All calorie counting taught me was to…
  • I don't personally think nuts are healthy for me so I do my best to avoid them. If you tolerate them then eat them but if they cause health issues or you go crazy with them I would recommend avoiding or minimizing them. They have the same anti-nutrients as grains so I'm not sure why many find them so acceptable.
  • Thank you so much for sharing. I will definitely check it out. I love your credentials including the La Leche League. I sure could have used that info and support when I had my child. :)
  • Welcome to Paleo. I've been here almost 3 years. I'm transitioning to an animal based diet, but I am still lurking here and keeping in touch with all the great Paleo friends I've made here at MFP.
  • No need to justify because then you invite arguments. That's especially problematic at work and with strangers. At least with family there is love and respect (usually). Co-workers and strangers, for the most part, do not truly care about what's best for YOU. Let them ASSume. :p
  • It gets easier the longer you stick with the lifestyle consistently. Fortunately, it's just me and my daughter and I only visit family twice per year. With all the health problems in my family, while they won't try what I'm doing and choose to wallow in their illnesses, they are very respectful of my choices. Co-workers…
  • Indian as in from India or do you mean an aboriginal american (south or north)? Well, I'm Canadian (Irish, Welsh, British, Dutch, German, Russian, Chinese, Cree.... and who knows what else) so... what was the question again?
