I have a Fitbit Flex and I love it. However, I use it mostly for tracking steps/miles and sleep, and not so much to track calories. I think you need to decide what your needs are; if you're looking for something more like a HRM to use while working out, I don't think the fitbit is great for that. I have noticed that I try…

Logging ALL my food has made a big difference. I can see how quickly 50-100 calorie snacks or grazing can add up. And switching my yoga membership from pay-per-class to unlimited. Now I try to go a lot more often to get my money's worth! Also, I recently got a fitbit and it's really helping me be more active around the…

Oh my gosh, amazing! Congratulations to you. Thanks for sharing the inspirational thoughts.

I need to quit reading the other responses (they are starting to get repetitive), so apologies if this has been covered already. First, I live in a city and we don't run in cemeteries here, but I don't think it's at all strange if that's what your community does, so people just need to chill out on that. Different towns…

You'll have it the rest of your life, because cartilage can't regenerate. Weight loss will likely lessen the pain, however. You could also ask for a referral to a physical therapist who can give you some exercises to help make sure your knee cap is tracking properly. There's a product called SynVisc, which is like a…

Also done. FYI folks, it will only take you 2 minutes max. Nice and easy. :) Good luck on your project!

I recently found a Danskin one at TJ Maxx for only $20. If there's one near you, it might be worth checking. It's 2 or 3 pounds, and clicks together. I haven't been able to use it yet (broken foot), but it looks a lot like the Hoopnotica ones.

I'm late to this thread, but eager to hear how it went. I feel so motivated by all the great comments people left you. I get a lot of anxiety about the unknown, so can completely understand the terror you felt (even though you had been there before). Sometimes I just reach out to a friend on MFP and write, "wish me luck"…

If you aren't afraid to get into it and like variety/choreography, the Zumba and Just Dance games are great for cardio (and the Zumba one seems to incorporate ab work, as well). You don't need the Wii Fit Balance Board for either of those. If you get a Zumba one, make sure you get one that comes with the little belt thing…

I'm not an expert, but since no one has chimed in, I will. I'm guessing it's a dual purpose thing that can be used for arm dips, or for leg raises. When you do it with leg raises, it should be a great ab workout. You can either lift your legs straight to horizontal, or lift them up into a tuck-like position. Perhaps a…

That's smart. Maybe I can get my bf to bike with me. Otherwise I'm not going to do the trail alone, even though I love it. I know better. When I walk over lunchtime (not such a great neighborhood), I only loop parks that are really open and populated.

I live in the city, and feel safe running on the sidewalks during the daytime because there are SO many people out. Yesterday though, I was at my bf's in a nice suburb and I ran on some trails. It did occur to me that safety was an issue. It didn't feel too bad, since it is this nice suburb, but things can happen anywhere.…

I completed Week 1, Day 1 yesterday. I had some trouble getting my phone synced to the website, but turned my phone off and on again this morning, and that worked. I tried making a playlist (in Winamp, which the ZR site site recommended, but it still didn't play. I used Pandora and listened to a station that is like…

If you don't have bad ankles (the kind that will roll and/or sprain), running on woodchips, dirt trails, or grass will help too. The pounding on asphalt or concrete is a lot worse on shin splints. I ran track in college, and coached track for 10+ years, so have more than my fair share with shin splints! :) A good hint for…

Thanks for the quick responses. I guess my next step is to figure out how to get music stored on my phone. I'm not usually technically inept, it's just not a thing I've done before. Thanks again. I'll check out the group!

Wow. Just WOW. Congratulations doesn't seem like a sufficient thing to say. I can't begin to imagine how many years and how much LIVING you have added to your life. I appreciate your words of wisdom, as well.

I'm "done" now (at maintenance weight), but I started yoga at the beginning of my MFP time, when I had 20 pounds to lose. I supplemented with cardio, but I know it helped me build muscle. There's another thread in Fitness and Exercise right now about DDP yoga - it's a few pages in at the moment, but you might get more info…
-
I haven't tried it but do another power yoga class. I've looked into DDP before, and it sure seems like it has a lot of success stories. There's a really inspirational video story on their website. Good luck to you, and don't be certain you need to lose 20-25 before starting the program - maybe start now and just modify as…

Try Athleta and Title Nine Sports. I also got a good Champion one at Target awhile back and it's holding up well. Lucy might also have something, but I'm not as convinced about that as the first two. Happy shopping. (If people don't like a question it always amazes me that they then opt to waste their own time to comment…

I'm trying to increase my protein and like black beans so am giving myself a bump. I want to try the black bean and sweet potato enchiladas and a couple of the salads! Good shares

bump - sounds great!

Absolutely lighten the intensity, and keep pushing the water. Keep close tabs on yourself as you go. It'd be extra important to eat well too. I understand why you want to work out, but it's just not worth risking anything too intense if it's 100 degrees and you're feeling light-headed.

Love the orange dress part. I was way over in calories too. I was thrown a curve ball at lunch for my boss's b-day when they didn't have the thing I was planning on ordering (looked at the menu online ahead of time). I played kickball tonight and had a blast - it feels like recess, that fun, uninhibited play from childhood…

Sounds like a fun idea. My first thought was Jane Fonda, and I see another poster suggested her. I'll add Richard Simmons to the mix. He used to have shows on tv when I was a kid (early 80's). There were a lot of people crammed into his studio, so it would probably be pretty entertaining to watch while working out.

There's a chance no one responded because there were like, three similar questions on the same day. Here's what I responded to someone with a knee injury, and someone with a walking boot (and I've also had turf toe - it's awful!) Seems like there are a lot of people with lower body injuries on here. I just posted the…

Seems like there are a lot of people with lower body injuries on here. I just posted the following for someone who asked a similar question. I have no need to "promote" my playlist, just want to share it if it's helpful. I made a 28 minute playlist on Youtube with seated Zumba routines when I sprained my ankle in April:…

I made a 28 minute playlist on Youtube with seated Zumba routines when I sprained my ankle in April: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmneqJPPQD4ZyEokyaHpcyA9aD4lcV2Y1 It's called "Chair Zumba workout" if that link doesn't work. There are a lot of them on youtube; those were just my favorites. If you search for Zumba…

I like joining outdoor yoga classes, and it seems like there are more than ever. CorePower offers one at Father Hennepin Park in Minneapolis on Sunday mornings from 10-11, and another at Linwood Park in St. Paul on Thursday nights from 6-7. There've also been some in Rice Park on Tuesday nights sponsored by Lululemon.…
