  • It's been really fun to read other people's responses. This is all good food for thought. I haven't figured it out by any means, but the most success I've experienced is in experimentation and in failing. These usually teach me the best lessons. I thought if I cut out all carbs, I'd figure it out. But I didn't. I thought…
  • Jumped in just to see what a SAHM was. Man, nothing but power to you ladies. My wife and I are exhausted and depressed and drained and motivation-less at the end of just about every night. Many's the time we've said to each other: "I don't have the first idea how I'd do it without you." Seriously, having the kids to…
  • I am vaguely offended that, to be a self-respecting anything, you have to eat legitimate maple syrup. Could there possibly exist a Canadian who doesn't like pancakes or waffles? A southerner who doesn't have time for non-instant grits? A Kentuckian who is fine with just whiskey, not bourbon? I think self-respecting…
  • In my experience, people are attracted to happiness and confidence. I could go long periods of time without a girlfriend and it certainly felt like nobody wanted me. After I'd find myself in a relationship (and not actively seeking to find someone), I'd start getting hints from other ladies that seemed interested. It'll…
  • I wouldn't say I LOVED them or anything, but Omission is just fine. I'ms tating to dig ciders, too.
  • Someone who speaks with clarity? Is that the guy I'm being? Or defensive because some stranger who thinks he looks dignified called me simple?
  • Way to be a *kitten*head about it, 73. I'm an English teacher and I'd never teach my students that "no" is a complete sentence without the explanation that the subject and predicate are implied. complete sentences need a subject and predicate, or subject-verb-object (the way we typically structure our sentences in…
  • "No" is a full sentence? Am I missing something? Just that the rest of the sentence is implied. No (I would not like an adult beverage). Is that right?
  • My favorite take on that quote: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels... except donuts. Donuts taste like skinny can go *kitten* itself."
  • I've never had any idea, not ANY idea of what I looked like. When I was down to 178 (incredibly low weight relative to me and my personal history), I still saw me being fat. When I went back up to 245 lbs., I was able to tell myself I looked more like where I was at 200. When I start losing weight, I no longer think I look…
  • CW: 236 GW: 220 UGW: 200 Main goal for eating is moderation. No days going off the rails. There will be treats and, periodically, there will be beer; however, I can't go apeshit for days in a row. Fitness goal: exercise five days a week and try to maintain well-rounded status. Able to run well. Able to lift decent weight.…
  • Those were the humps I was hoping to see in this thread... I'm drooling over here.
  • Wow, to use a really inappropriate expression, that was HOT. Like, caco genuinely nailed an awful lot of being a parent and a spouse on the day-to-day. I think my wife and I get along incredibly well. INCREDIBLY. AND I think we are different than many, many couples. We still have *kitten* awful fights, times where we don't…
  • Yeah, lots I'd probably disagree with here. Try being married, if you want to learn about money going away that you'll never get back. Try having kids, for that matter. I know you said you don't want the money back, but if you don't want to spend it, then don't spend it. You can either be the family member who doesn't…
  • I think this is fine IF you truly use 2-3 tbsp of creamer. My father in-law... lord. I think it's a quarter cup per mug of coffee. I'd agree that I'm not into the artificial stuff and the hydrogenated oils, but I don't begrudge anyone else their daily joys. I admit to being a little woo-woo at times. I switched to whole…
  • Get excited about a new thing! For me, I need variety. Start training yourself to run. Do HIIT routines from YouTube in your living room (I'm a fan of Fitness Blender; my wife used to live Tone It Up). I do enjoy a lot of strength-based HIIT routines that exhaust me in 15 or 30 minutes (maybe not true HIIT in all cases,…
  • I tend to agree with this. Logging those surplus calories is painful, right? EXACTLY. It forces you to take a hard look at what you did, rather than stay in denial.
  • Slow down, but don't stop.
  • Everything with onions and garlic. Sweet potatoes eaten in spicy baked fry format. Roasted broccoli with interesting spices, not steamed. When all else fails, cook with a little butter, salt and pepper, and maybe even a little shredded Parmesan.
  • I've enjoyed IF quite a bit, but I've been slipping on my evening deadline. I do IF from noon to 8 p.m., but having kids and getting them to bed so late sometimes results in my eating dinner late or having some kind of "dessert." Anyway, it's been a great tool for someone with zero will-power, someone who generally has no…
  • I think cookie butter is so beyond overrated. Supposed to be the next Nutella... blasphemy. If you've ever had one of those little, overly hard ginger cookies that are meant to be had with coffee (my only experience was single serving on airplanes), it's like a butter version of that. You can get it crunchy or smooth. It's…
  • Beer and wings. For abs, though, I like planks, plank jacks, plank torso rotations, and jackknives.
  • I just read that someone said burn is lower than we thought and that the whole after-burn thing is more or less a myth... or at least not as much as previously thought. Thanks for your feedback. I still will not eat back exercise calories, but it's good to know that I've been logging inaccurately.
  • I have an entry called remove exercise calories. It just negates my exercise calories with empty ones (no macro or micronutrient values).
  • I'd go hard for at least 30 minutes and give myself 250 calories credit for burn. I think new rules might say something like 200. I don't eat back exercise calories these days, so it doesn't matter quite as much to me. Curious as to what others say.
  • For me, it's definitely a mental thing (I suppose it probably is for everyone). I think it's almost like the psychology behind addition to cigarettes, alcohol, pot, etc. If you don't, you'll feel like you're missing out on something. That was definitely what kept me smoking for so long.
  • I'm married AF! You guys?!
  • Thanks, Kathryn, since I'm starting out and have plenty to lose, the loss has been fast and steady. I'm ready for it to absolutely plateau and to have to motivate my way through that.
  • Avocado toast is amazing and you can certainly add a lot of variants to top it with. Also, I like leftover sauteed kale and onions. I usually top it with a fried egg (I know, sorry), bacon, and parmesan. Love my savory breakfasts. I couldn't do all of the protein powder described in this thread.
  • Man, this would kill me. I try to eat (our admittedly bizarre version of) vegetarian and vegan when I can muster the will-power, which is fairly frequently. However, eggs are always on the menu and I probably rely on them too heavily. I'm interested to see other folks' ideas. Normally, I would make the following with…
