  • I know how it feels to be so frustrated when you are putting in the work and not getting results! The estimates that MFP and other online calculators are just estimates, both for your MR and for the calories burned. For many people it's close enough, but for others of us, we have to experiment to find the right level of…
  • I had mine tested and it was much lower than online estimates. Online calculators were around 1330-1430. Actual was 1007. I'm hoping that over time I can increase this some by adding muscle mass, but apparently this is something that you have little control over.
  • You don't say how high your BP is (I don't know if there are any issues working out with very high BP). But generally, exercise is good for lowering it, so if your doctor has OK'd it, go for it! Maybe focus on cardio at first... I have the same goal of getting off BP meds and by exercising a lot it has improved to where I…
  • Very interesting and good to know! Thanks for posting. Lucky for me, I usually use Annie's salad dressings, which are low-fat (3 to 6 grams/serving) and use canola oil, which is one of the ones mentioned where 3 grams is as good as 20. I will pay closer attention to the type of oil from now on!
  • You could try changing to a different kind of exercise that what you have been doing. The body adapts itself when you do the same routine for a long time.
  • *Bump*
  • I love languages, study Spanish and Chinese, and also like to learn a little about lots of them and how they all work. I've even learned about constructed languages like Esperanto. I have to admit Chinese is too difficult for me at my age, but I still keep at it, lol.
  • Yes! It's here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/6130-ladies-170-ish-making-it-to-130-ish
  • Well, mine didn't come out looking like the picture, LOL. The consistency was too thick, so the middle didn't cook fast enough. I did use oat flour instead of regular flour but I wouldn't have thought that would make a big difference. They were still pretty good though, and very filling. I might try diluting them with milk…
  • Sounds great, I'm gonna try this! Thanks for posting.

  • I think it's amazing how many people hate veggies. I'd like to know what you ate while a child--were you not given vegetables and raised on fast food/canned food, or were you maybe given mushy canned peas, or were you traumatically forced to eat cauliflower.... just wondering. When did you start to hate them, if you…
  • When people say muscle weighs more than fat, the fact that equal volume is being referred to is obvious and doesn't need to be specified. What else COULD it be? By the OP's statement, nothing can weigh more than anything else because a pound = a pound. A: Which weighs more, lead or feathers? B: Neither, a pound of lead…
  • Beware! And to think MFP encourages us to consume it in large quantities! :drinker:
  • Here are a few recipe links I've found. http://www.juicingbook.com/recipes/ http://thejuicenut.com/vegetable_juice_recipes_the_juice_nut.aspx http://www.happyjuicer.com/ I don't like celery in my juice. Whenever I've tried it I thought it tasted too salty, yuck. Yet a lot of people must like it, since it is in so many…
  • Great job! That's a healthy rate of weight loss and great change in measurements!
  • You will have some of the fiber because some pulp will still get through the screen. You wind up getting more nutrients than you would get by just eating the veggies because a lot of them are trapped in the cellulose and pass through your system (that's why it's good to really chew your greens thoroughly). But it's true…
  • Nice post describing your juice fast experiences, thanks! I love my juicer, though I haven't tried an actual juice fast so far. That's a really good video to explain the differences between types of juicers. I have the Omega 8006 - single auger type - because I juice mostly greens, with some carrot and/or apple to sweeten…
  • Your diary isn't viewable, but my suggestion would be to up your calories by 100-200/day for a couple of weeks and see if that helps. If not, go up another 100/day, etc. When I suddenly increased my exercise by a bunch, I went into a plateau. I looked at my diary and saw that I was netting too low. When I upped my calories…
  • My diary should be open, but feel free to friend anyway. I have it set at 1210 and eat back some or most exercise calories, which gives me a nice "zig-zag" of cals. I actually average about 1330 overall. Before anyone criticizes my settings: I don't use MFP estimates. I custom-set my goals based on my measured metabolic…
  • Leafy veggies are the lowest, fruits are probably the highest. I did a quick search and looks like there are lots of good sites on the topic: http://www.livestrong.com/article/362699-list-of-low-calorie-fruits-vegetables/ http://www.everythingcalories.com/list-lowest-calorie-fruits…
  • That's just water weight. Working your muscles causes them to get a little inflamed while they heal and rebuild, which is why they feel sore the next day or two after the workout.
  • The recipe I use calls for 1/4 c oats, 1/4 c yogurt, and 1/3c almond (or whatever) milk, and the consistency comes out pretty good. I don't put any sugar in it, but I add 1/2 Tbsp chia seeds. I make up 2 or 3 servings at a time so I don't have to prepare it every night.
  • Part of the cardio + strength training program I am doing now included meeting with a nutritionist. That part of it was useless. Not saying there aren't some good ones out there.
  • That's a lot of creamer!

  • I meant that since I changed from a simple 1200-1300 every day, to zig-zagging 3 weeks ago, I've averaged 1 pound/week loss. But looking at my log, I actually went up slightly the first week and lost the 3 pounds in the last two weeks. It hasn't been long enough to tell how well this will hold up, but it's a huge…

  • I am being pretty flexible with the zig zagging. I match the high calorie days with the heaviest exercise days. But if I am really not hungry I don't think it's necessary to force feed myself, lol. I look at my macros and If I'm really low on protein and high on carbs I might have a few almonds, or non-fat yogurt if I need…

  • Mine was 1007.
  • You can pick whatever calorie level you want to use, and make your own zig zag chart. Someone posted the formula in the other thread. If A = your average daily cals (weekly cals / 7), then the chart goes: Day 1: A Day 2: A * 0.8 =[Avg - 20%] Day 3: A * 1.2 =[Avg + 20%] Day 4: A Day 5: A * 0.9 =[Avg - 10%] Day 6: A * 1.1…
