Hi feel free to add me. I ran my first half marathon last month and am looking to stay motivated through the cold, snowy winter!

I've been using RunKeeper for over 3 years, its free, easy to use and reliable. The accuracy of the GPS depends on your phone. I have an iphone 4S and its as accurate as my friends Garmin GPS watch. I like that it works with your iphone/itunes playlists, you can set it to tell you your pace/distance/time etc and you can…

Hi I run outside all winter (I live in Northern Alberta, Canada) - my must haves: 1. dress in layers - invest in some good technical long sleeve shirts and tights. I read on the RunnersWorld website that you should dress like its about 10 degrees warmer than the actual temperature (expect to feel a little cold when you…

Trying to get back into training for a half marathon (next month) after being sick. Aiming for 4 miles Saturday and then 10 mile long run on Sunday

I bought the Yurbuds Inspire Pro earphones. They are awesome! I've run for up to 19 km in them and they never fall out.

You could just go and get a good pair of trail running shoes, the mesh on top is more tightly woven and the soles have better grip for the snow. I live in Northern Alberta and run all winter. I also use YakTrax on my running shoes if its a little slippery - you just put them on over the soles of your shoes and add a lot of…

Have been thinking about buying a headlamp - some people have told me that they find wearing it around their waist better since the light does bounce around as much as if they wear it on their forehead. Do other people feel the same way?

Last winter was my first for running outside and I loved it. I live in Northern Alberta so it can get pretty cold but it was fine as long as I dressed for it as others have already said. I ended up selling my treadmill since I hate running on it and would rather be outside. If you're somewhere cold and you're worried about…

Wow, amazing transformation! You're an inspiration!

I started enjoying it when I stopped thinking about it as 'exercise' and something that I should or had to do and started just enjoying being outside, breathing clean air and using it for pure enjoyment and de-stressing at the end of the day. I still don't like the first 20 minutes of the run (takes me that long to 'get in…

Hi feel free to add me, I'm training for my first half marathon in October.

Wow, fantastic results!! You look great

Hi - feel free to add me, I'm from Edmonton. Training for a half marathon and would also like to do a Tough Mudder someday.

Love your outlook on life! Friend request sent!

I'm training for a half marathon in October. I like to run by myself so I started using a training program from RunKeeper. I have to say that I ended up dropping it because I got too hung up on pace calculations and intervals and lost the joy of running. So I went back to just running - I do my long run on the weekend, one…

I live in Edmonton and run all winter. There's already been a lot of good advice and would agree with everyone that has said that you should start out feeling a little bit cool (the rule of dressing like its 10 degrees warmer is a good one). I think the biggest thing for me was to invest in a couple of good technical…

That's incredible! You look great (and more importantly are healthy and fit!!!)

I run at night quite a bit as well (Northern Canada gets dark pretty early in the winter!). I run with my phone, reflective strips and a light (I got mine from RoadID - it was about $12), I also wear a RoadID bracelet. I stick to residential streets and vary my route from time to time. There are great ravine trails right…

Friend request sent. I'm 43 and can now call myself a runner. I was like you - definitely not a natural runner, I still think I look goofy when I run, but stick with it. Now I look forward to running, its become my stress release at the end of a long day at work. Just take it slow, you'll see progress (mental as well as…

Hey congratulations, that's fantastic!! Feel free to add me as a friend. I'm a runner too

Run my first half-marathon (October) under 2 hours 10K in 50 minutes Tough Mudder :)
-
Don't worry - its just a natural response to exercise (your blood vessels dilate so that you can increase your cardiac output). Some people just show it more than others. Think of it as your heart thanking you for the great workout! :)

Congratulations on signing up for your first race, that's huge!! NO ONE will laugh or feel badly that you are walk/running. Like everyone else has said the running community is incredibly supportive and walk/run intervals are a great way to start and train (at any level). Make sure you get fit for a good pair of running…

Its great to see so many people being successful and eating REAL food! Feel free to add me as well. If it has ingredients in it that I can't pronounce...I don't eat it :-)

I'm training for my first 1/2 in Moab in October, feel free to add me and good luck on yours!

Outside any day of the week! I sold my treadmill because I hated it so much. I run outside all year, I initially thought I'd hate it in the winter (I live in northern Canada) but it turns out I love it - nothing like running on freshly fallen snow!
-
Feel free to add me - I run 4-5 days a week, training for a half marathon in October.

Thanks for the great list!
