I will drink one cup of coffee a day during the week. I will only sometimes drink it on the weekend. I will include the one cup in my daily fluid goal. I carefully measure my creamer every time and include it in my daily calorie intake...twenty calories is still twenty calories. This helps me to not go back and get…

Thanks for the comments. It's always helpful for me to see how other people handle similar struggles. I definitely need to do a self assessment to try and recognize what my triggers are, when they occur, why I still let them conquer me, and determine what I can do to stop my bad habits in the future. I'm struggling with…

I think that the idea of a loved one having major surgery would scare many people. The common notion that this major surgery is "elective" makes it an even bigger hurtle to jump. Education will be your biggest ally in gaining your husbands support. When I first posed the idea of having WLS to my boyfriend, he kind of…

Welcome!! You will love this forum. I have found it to be more helpful than the other ones I sometimes look to for support. People on here are so genuine and really just want to provide feedback and gain feedback on experiences. My tip to you as a newbie: My biggest battle post surgery was trying not to compare myself to…

Thanks for posting this topic! I have gone through both eating habits described: (1) not eating much during the week and then grazing on the weekends; and (2) eating more during the week and forgetting to eat on the weekends. Lately, I have fallen victim to the later. I haven been very structured during the week with all…

My doctor would definitely not have been okay with my decision to have a carbonated beverage. He told me that I wouldn't be able to drink anything carbonated for the rest of my life. So I did exactly what he told me not to do and boy was it painful. I could literally feel the bubbles trying to expand my stomach and my…

Before surgery, my BMI was over 45. I'm 26 years old and was lucky enough to have not developed any "co-morbitities" as the insurance companies like to call them. I have been overweight since elementary school and morbidly obese since high school. In college, I managed to drop 70 pounds using weight watchers. Then the…

I am 8 months post-op and have tried just about everything. I can tolerate just about anything in very small quantities and started exploring different things between 4 & 6 months out. I buy whole grain bread, pasta, and rice for my boyfriend and will take a bite every now and then while cooking. I usually avoid them like…

OMG! Y'all are AMAZING!!! Such an inspiration. I'm still on my way to goal, but I know I'll get there. I started out with a BMI of 45. I'm 5'8", 8 months post-op, down 81 pounds, with another 52 to get to my goal weight of 165. I haven't been as vigilent with exercising, but I'm committed to changing that and have done…

Congratulations to you both...just making the decision to have WLS is a challenge alone. I have been sleeved for 8 months now and I've learned a great deal along the way. The people in this forum are fantastic and provide a really great support system. Information will be key as you start this journey, but misinformation…

I think I have watched almost every episode of that show. I spent my entire youth overweight, but I didn't let it slow me down. At 200+ pounds in high school, I played softball and was on the dance team. I even made All Stars and danced at the Capital One Bowl half-time show on New Years Day. So my story is quite different…

This group has saved me from myself on many occassions. I've been inspired in so many ways by all of you out there. I think that everyone posting is truly trying to help others and to try and stay involved and focused on this process. When it comes to actual medical advice, we must remember that we aren't experts and by no…

Worry not!!! Stalls will come and go as you journey down this path. I have been sleeved for 8 months now. I track my weekly weightloss via an excel spreadsheet I created and I hit a stall six different weeks in the past 8 months. Sometimes you're body is just adjusting to change or you may need to assess what you're…

I have not heard of using amino acids as an alternative to protein consumption. From what I remember from science classes, amino acids are the basic building block of life. I take lysine every day (an amino acid) which helps with improving skin and hair quality. I don't really see them being an alternative to protein, but…

JxAAA that's a pretty cool idea for incorporating some protein into coffee consumption. I definitely broke the rules when it came to coffee. I never even tried decaf, because I don't drink coffee because I'm obsessed with the taste. I drink it for that beautiful morning kick it gives me! I'm 8 months post op and my surgeon…

My doctor also gave me conflicting information from what was provided my nutritionalist. My doctor actually told me that I shouldn't eat more than two meals a day and that he'd be fine if I only ate one a day. Needless to say, I followed what my NUT said and it seems to be working well.

That's an awesome NSV and stands as proof of your hard work!!!

I was not able to be nervous about the decision, because my family was nervous enough. I had to be the beacon of strength and portray my committment to my decision. So even if I wanted to worry and fret about my life changing decision, I couldn't. It wasn't until they put the IV in that I started to get nervous and by that…

I, too, had some emotions to deal with those first few weeks. For the first week, post-op I didn't want to talk to anyone. My boyfriend was really concerned, but I was sort of in shock I guess. The second week, I still didn't say much, but was beginning to see the light again. The third week, my boyfriend said, "Ahhh,…

Ahhh yes the first stall is quite frustrating! But you're body will get past it, just stick with the program. Drink your water and get all of your protein and that will typically expedite the process. Stalls will happen periodically through your journey, but as long as you stick with what your NUT says, your body will…

One month out and 31 pounds down!!! Woohoo!!! Congrats

Thanks! I travel so much for my job...if I'm not in a Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn, I'm in my car for a minimum of 2 hours a day. So preparation is crucial for me. Breakfast is easy: coffee plus 1 tbsp of fat free creamer followed by my daily protein drink. I mix 1scoops of Isopure Advance Low Carb Dutch Chocolate and 1 cup…

Congrats on your weight loss and your committment to exercise! That is wonderful! My MFP daily calorie goal is 1200 and I'm still loosing, just at a reduced average. I keep an excel spreadsheet: at 4 months post op I was loosing on average 3.05 pounds per week and now at 7 months post op my average weekly weight loss is…

I remember buying all of these different ready-made protein shakes. I had so many brands and flavors. Post-surgery, I hated every single one. I could barely get down one medicine-cup full each hour. The first two weeks, I pretty much lived off of chicken broth, apple juice, water, sugar-free popcicles, and the occasional…

I, too, keep in mind the calculation Latse mentioned: Current weight - Normal BMI weight = total excess weight x 80%= reasonable expectation of weight loss maintained. Psychologically, I need to shoot for that Normal BMI weight. I'm 5'8" and the high end normal BMI is 165. I'm currently 224 and have never weighed less than…

Great advice! I'm definitely not looking to change him and I don't want him to feel pressured. My goal is to find healthy recipes that appeal to his pallet and that he won't immediately think are "diet" foods. He is usually good with the protein that I cook. Sides are the main issue. I found some recipes on skinnytaste.com…

Pre-surgery, I had a few conversations with friends and family. It was suprising to hear the negative comments such as, "that's the easy way out" or "just push away from the table." At that point, I didn't argue with them. I figured that I would quietly have my surgery and privately go about my life. I had the surgery and…

I had the same issue. It started mine over too. I fixed it on the app by going to "Progress" and changing the calendar from one month to All.
