  • Originally from Fairfax, but live in SoCal now.... Welcome!!!
  • Coffee or tea with caffeine should not be counted as water. Black coffee I usually do 5 calories per cup and 0 for plain tea. Caffeine will dehydrate you and is a diuretic, meaning you would benefit from drinking 2 glasses of water for every 1 cup of caffeinated drink you have.
  • What are your goals? Your profile says you are five foot six and 117 pounds - so what is your desired outcome? I think the best thing for me has been circuit training class at the gym. I get cardio with the strength training in one. Oh, and I'm sore for the next two to three days!!!! There are lots of videos (on netflix or…
  • I can handle the flu, feeling sick for a few days, no work (!). I prefer not to get the shot. Never had the shot, and I've only gotten the flu once.... If they had a shot for strep throat, I'd get that. I had it twice in 2010!!!!
  • We're going to do a 10K in early February, but I'm not sure if Southern California "winter" races count as winter!?!
  • How about hummus? It's around 70 calories for 2 tbs. And, it's extra tasty!
  • Good luck on the run!!!! (YEAH on the medium shirt....)
  • It's really interesting what you wrote. When we're hypercritical about something, we also believe or think that others are too. I relate to the wrinkle issue. I got my first sunspot on my face this year and was angry! It didn't help that my husband noticed it too. But, what I realized is that the only two people who…
  • I'm a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern. It's great that you're reaching out for support, but it's the face to face connection and building of the relationship where change generally occurs. There are great agencies out there that do sliding scale services. Feel free to friend me!
  • That's the most annoying part about Trader Joes!!! They always pull my favorite items from the shelves....(argh). Ingredients * 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and coarsely chopped * 1 clove garlic * 3/4 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root * 1/4 cup lime juice * 1/3 cup honey * 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar * 1/2 teaspoon salt, or…
  • I totally get jealous when I look at others' diaries and see how much they get to eat. 1200 calories is a small number and very challenging, not including trying to eat healthy foods. Then, I look at others' foods and say "boring." That's not me. I want flavor and spice in my food. Everything in moderation - including…
  • It's a nice and well put article. I like when it's broken down simply. I guess I'm not going to feel bad about eating later at night - as long as I have the extra calories!!!
  • Clothes and measurements are such a great reminder of how our bodies really are CHANGING!!!! Congrats on being in the 100's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I love the "your boyfriend is not going to tell you the truth" comment. My husband does tell me the truth....and I love him and dislike him for it at the same time. But, in the long run, it keeps me accountable. (I'm honest with him too....) As for BMI, no two bodies are the same. The fact that you are asking the question…
  • But, it got you talking!!!! It's pretty much all fake anyways..... Move to LA and you won't believe anything you see on TV again! (I just looked and you live close to LA!!!!)
  • They did something similar on the Biggest Loser this week - helped a lot of the contestants realize what they were doing to their body (or that's the spin reality TV put on it....) Think about all that weight on your joints, bones, etc. CONGRATS on your successes!!!
  • I'm in the same boat.... I'm still going to have my fruit for a snack and not worry about it... I won't deprive myself of anything, but do eat smaller or more controlled portions.
  • It totally depends on your build. My husband is 5 foot 4 and weighs around 125. He loves to run and is muscular, but has a smaller frame. His brothers who are maybe an inch or two taller weigh 20 to 25 pounds more than him and both are athletic. So, what is comfortable for you?
  • Between 7.5 and 9 hours is normal for me. I'd love to get 10 hours a night.....
  • Good question.... The vegetables I tend to buy are: - carrots - celery - spinach - zucchini - green peppers - broccoli And....I prefer almost all of them raw.
  • I think that depends on the size. A small wrap? 10" Low Carb Whole Wheat Tortillas has about 200 calories.... 6" Low Carb Whole Wheat Tortillas has about 70 calories... My whole wheat bread (from Trader Joes) has 100 calories per slice. However, I have seen whole wheat bread slices that have around 70 calories. So, I guess…
  • I have the Magic Bullet Blender and a Cuisinart Blender. I actually prefer the Magic Bullet for both its power and the fact that it's easy to clean!
  • Just got a skin facial...something nice for myself! Massages too - especially after a week of good workouts!
  • Congrats! I did a 5K this morning too!!! Have a happy Thanksgiving!
  • Welcome! It's great that you started the Boot camp already! It's a very useful site and it has supported a lot of people through their health journey. I'm with you on learning how to cook, and healthy meals at that. Happy Turkey Day!!!

  • I am also running a 5K tomorrow morning. I would keep your normal routine and not eat anything you don't regularly eat. I think I'm going to start the morning off with a coffee and possibly a bar of some sort. It's going to be around the upper 40s tomorrow morning in SoCal - brrrrrrr! Good luck tomorrow!!!
  • No breakfast (just coffee).... Chiptole Burrito Bowl for lunch (or other fast food).... Chips and salsa (until I was stuffed) for snack.... White rice and some sort of chicken or a mexican style dinner....
  • Does your knee feel loose? That could be a ligament issue. Sharp pain is not good. Dull pain could be muscle soreness. I broke my knee (bone and ligament) and lost most of my muscle mass in my left leg. I had to rebuild it from pretty much nothing. The muscles were very sore - but it was not my knee - it was generally the…
  • Welcome! I think you are right, you do need someone to talk to. Are others in your family aware of the challenges you experience with food? My suggestion is to talk with a professional. Some options are: - doctor - school counselor - if you are in college there is usually free counseling - support groups - private…
  • I was put in charge of the salad and rolls. I was feeling kind of cheated out of the whole cooking experience, so I decided to make my own salad dressing and the rolls from scratch. Wish me luck! Oh yeah, and we just signed up for a 5K that morning!
