I've never had any WF things, but I would probably be willing to try them if the price was right. I don't really care about frankenfoods, even though I know I should. I'm the kind of person that if I can eat MORE of a good-enough food rather than less of an excellent food, I'll go with quantity over quality. Perhaps that…

I understand. I guess I was thinking comparing one person's miserable feelings to anothers, but it's more about "this person reports they were miserable on a diet and gained everything back, the other person said they weren't miserable and didn't gain it back." Then again, do we really NEED a study to tell us that if you…

When I crash and barely eat anything my belly seems to shrink faster, with my legs, arms and boobs staying about the same. When I am in an appropriate deficit and losing more slowly I tend to lose from my arms, legs and boobs first, belly last. This has been the case for years, so it isn't just "I'm getting older so I'm…

You might benefit more from changing your body composition instead of losing weight. The scale is really just our gravitational relation to the earth. Health wise, you're right where you should be. But if you aren't happy with what you are seeing in the mirror you might benefit from trying some exercise changes, including…

I certainly abide by the idea that it isn't what you do one day, but what you do every day. So if you usually eat under calorie goals and go a little bit wild one day on the weekend, well, Cool If it works well for you to feel good, stay healthy, and lose the weight you want to lose, huzzah to you!

The problem is how subjective it is. Obviously people can report that they were miserable, but what is miserable to one person (Oh my god, I can't have BREAD?!) is nothing to someone else (Who cares about bread? I get my steak and cheese, I'm good). Not everyone likes the same types of foods, and generally "diets"…

You're right that the basics are not any different. The problem with women with PCOS (and people with other metabolic syndromes) is that it can be quite difficult to really understand the number of calories we need to be taking in, in order to be ina deficit. We burn calories slower and thus cannot rely on traditional…

Yeah, Men really do have a small advantage in the losing weight department. My husband can simply cut out beer during the week and lose 20 pounds in no time. He's extremely muscular and has a very active job as well, so he often finds that he can't meet his caloric needs during the day with just food. It's tough when I…

There are probably better ways to lose, but if that is what is working for you, then Kudos!

Some days I am ALL about the breakfast, other days I am fine not eating until noon or later... I haven't figured out what the trigger is, for me, that makes me want to eat more in the morning. Maybe if I can figure out what habits are making me hungrier in the morning will help me figure out a way to fit IF in.

Thanks, One is school age, the other isn't. Thankfully this time around I'm not having too hard a time sticking to my calorie goals without feeling too hungry, but if that starts to change I might try to fit that in and make my eating period when the kids do most of their eating...

Is 16:8 an intermittent fasting schedule? I've thought about trying it, but it never really seems practical for me. Since I have two young kids who are constantly eating it's hard to not eat when they do!

It's about habit. You'll reach for that bag and have a handful in your mouth before you even remember that "oh. I was trying not to eat like this" and then it seems like "well, hell, I guess I'll start tomorrow". Just stop. When you get that handful and remember. Put the bag back down and go log what you've eaten, to the…

There is a lot of hate going on for skinny legs here. I mean, sure thick thighs are fashionable, but no men won't skip a girl with thinner thighs. And No, men don't want "meat on their bones" because men aren't animals looking to eat prey. Wanting to look one way for whatever reason is one thing, but don't try to make…

I try to pre-log as much as possible and I tweak as I go (was not as hungry at lunch, so ate less, wanted a snack so add that in, etc). I usually have extra calories because of working out, but I don't tend to try to "fill up" the calories unless I'm actually hungry.

It won't be easy to have a 1200 calories deficit every day, but it's possible, especially if you are already well overweight or obese. If you eat 600 less calories and burn 600 extra calories (probably an hour? Of exercise, depending on what you do and your exact weight, of course.) you've got a 1200 calorie deficit.

Rum and diets are probably the easiest to get at any bar. Almost all bars have diet cola (usually coke, but some have pepsi) but not all bars will have the diet lemon-lime soda (Sprite, 7-up, etc). Or, you know, just drink diet soda without the booze. If you don't love drinking, volunteer to be DD. Some bars will even let…

I hear liposuction in thighs is only several grand... But really, body shape is body shape. You either need to lower your overall body fat (and thus any fat left in your thighs) or accept that you happen to store more fat in your thighs than, say, your belly.

You are absolutely right. CICO is what dictates weight loss. What those calories are made up of determine health and body composition. Want some pizza and chips for dinner? Plan for it and go for it. It will create a much more sustainable change for a healthier life overall if you work hard to learn how to balance what you…

Oh dear, Best of luck. I had Mirena for a couple of years and I loved it. I gained weight, but I can say it is almost 100% my bad choices. Just too much pizza and ice cream and beer. That said, I have PCOS and the first time I really gained weight like crazy was when I went OFF birth control to get pregnant the first time.…

For starters, it's okay to have an appetite and feel hungry. Embrace feeling hungry, because it is your body's way of telling you it's time to eat. Just because you feel a twinge of hunger doesn't mean you have to jump up and eat. Learn that first. Next, remember to drink as much water as you want. By ensuring you are…

There is nothing inherently wrong with drinking a meal instead of chewing it. A lot of people have a smoothie for breakfast every day and don't eat solid food until a morning snack or lunch. Think of the powdered shake-thing a calorie controlled smoothie. If it's the kind of thing he wants to do for the long haul, go for…

THERE IT IS! The calories are the energy component of the food, the nutrients are the other part. So a chicken breast has calories that your body burns for energy, and amino acids that your body uses to build or maintain muscle (and not just the "pretty" muscles, but ALL your muscle).

Everyone has put it really well. The equations are pretty good estimates at what a person's metabolism should burn in given condition (age, height, weight, etc). If you know you have a faster metabolism, you might be able to eat a bit more than what the formulas say, if you know you have a slower metabolism, don't exceed…

I doubt you'll lose 10 pounds, but in case you're running into any bloating, I'd say really go hard on the water and go light on the sodium. It will help de-puff all over and that should help if any extra in the belly area is bloating. (Also, if you're not regular, get that way with all the right food.) I second the good…

I don't know if I'm allowed to post links, but check out funeralformyfat on tumblr. She has some fantastic tips and great encouragement. I think you look thin and fit. Could you lose more weight? Probably. But it probably won't result in the type of body you're looking for.

Perhaps take photos (or just really pay attention mentally) to what certain amounts look like. I am TERRIBLE with spacial reasoning. I have a hard time looking at something and saying "that is a cup" BUT I can use a measuring cup to measure out (for example) my cereal and put it in a bowl, then I remember how that looks…

I dunno about all that. I'm intensely attracted to a guy who is not very fit, struggles with acne, and has thinning hair. I love his personality, his compassion, his sense of humor. I'm actually losing weight in hopes he will want me, because I don't meet his physical standards, which is a little ironic, but I figure it…

I am with you on this. Exercise actually has absolutely no positive effect on my depressive symptoms. I actually react negatively (emotionally/mood-wise) to exercise. I was training for a 5K this Summer and after each run I was angry. I was moodier the whole time. I had a shorter temper. It was just a bad time all around.…

WHY? Well, unless people have a medical reason to avoid them, or simply a taste preference, I'd say it is the over-emphasis on MACROs. I mean, Macros matter, of course, but not at the expense of MICROnutrients. Just because a person may get the right amount of fat/carbs/protein a day does not mean they are getting…
