  • Salt is often used as a preservative in foods, and there's usually a lot of salt in canned or frozen soups.
  • If you're sick enough to be throwing up, counting calories probably wouldn't be my primary concern.
  • I try to do 1 hour a day 5X a week. I alternate upper body, lower body and core or ab workouts. I also alternate the intensity of my workouts so that one upper body workout is high weight/ low reps while the next one is lower weight/higher reps. The results have been great for me so far, with gains in muscle mass and…
  • The #1 cardio exercise is probably running or the elliptical machine. #1 Strength Training exercise would have to be either the squat or the deadlift. Both utilize the largest muscles in your body, as well as several smaller muscle groups.
  • I use the exercise calculator at fitclick.com and I've steadily lost weight even though I eat back most of my exercise calories. I find it to be a lot more accurate (for myself, anyways) than MFP's exercise calculator for strength training. According to MFP, I would only burn about 50 more calories for a tough lower body…
  • Spot reducing is impossible, but cardio will help to get rid of the fat. Strength training is also important. Exercises like squats, deadlifts, lunges and leg presses will help firm up the area so there's less "jiggle" in that area.
  • I usually burn 700 to 800 calories an hour when weight lifting (usually about 450 for an ab workout). I'm a 230 pound man and I lift heavy weights with short rest periods between sets. You can burn a lot more calories than most people think by lifting weights. The reason most people might not burn a lot of calories…
  • Canned or frozen soup is extremely high in sodium. I used to work for a very famous soup company, and the main ingredient in most of the soups that we made was salt!
  • Or else you have a surplus of B vitamins in your system.
  • Abs are just like any other muscle. They need time to rest and repair themselves. Don't forget that they also get worked in a lot of other exercises like squats and lunges. Give them a couple of days rest in between ab workouts. You can actually strain and weaken them by working them too much.
  • Usually 15 to 25 grams is sufficient for most people after a strength training workout. Serious weightlifters or bodybuilders might consume more, but the average person doesn't need that much.
  • What she said. Great site! Video demonstrations and written descriptions for hundreds of exercises! http://www.fitclick.com/calories_burned
  • Good for you for throwing them out!
  • Consider it a blessing for now. More muscle mass = more calories burned! A lot of overweight people have fairly strong legs from carrying the extra bulk around. As you lose weight, your muscle will decrease also. Keep doing cardio (running, biking, walking, etc) and perform at least some form of strength training. For…
  • That should be covered under your base calories when you stated your normal activity level (sedentary, active, etc.). If you entered sedentary, try wearing a pedometer to see how much walking you're actually doing in a day.
  • Yep, I do it all the time. Put on your ipod and jog around the house. I burn over 800 calories an hour doing this. Sometimes my daughters join me and chase after me!
  • That is awesome! Congratulations on a job well done!
  • Another load of bull**** from a company trying to cash in on people's problems by offering a miracle cure. And enough people will probably respond to make somebody rich. Has anybody out there tried this or any other miracle weight loss product? How'ld that work out for you? Oh, it didn't? What a shock! :noway: As long as…
  • Get rid of the scale! Don't let a "magic" number rule your life!
  • Every two or three weeks. I don't worry too much about my weight. I use a mirror and body measurements to guage my progress.
  • Then stay off the scale. It's just a number! Taking regular body measurements is a much more accurate way to guage your fat loss. The scale doesn't differentiate between fat and muscle or water weight. I only weigh myself every couple of weeks because I'm really not too concerned with what it says. I can see the difference…
  • My heart bleeds for you, my dear!
  • Why don't you work out at home? There are plenty of exercises like squats, pushups, lunges, etc. that don't require equipment. Or pop in an exercise dvd or even just jog on the spot while watching tv. There are plenty of good websites like fitclick.com that can give you a full body weight workout, or search for routines on…
  • Nuts like almonds, peanuts and pistachios have a good blend of protein, fiber and healthy fats. Get them unsalted if you're watching your sodium intake.
  • Throw the scale away! Don't become obsessed over some stupid number. Body measurements are a much better indicator of weight loss success.
  • GNC might have a bigger selection, but Walmart usually has the best prices. GNC isn't too bad if you buy a gold membership (it cost me $10). You can get some pretty good discounts and special offers that way.
  • According to your ticker, you've lost 24 pounds. If you just started at the beginning of this year, that's an incredible amount of weight for such a short time. I don't know if you're upset because maybe your weight loss was a little less this week than it was in previous weeks, or what you were expecting. It is normal to…

  • I wouldn't worry too much about the gum. At 5 calories per piece, chewing it for 10 or 15 minutes would take care of those calories. You would have to eat (not chew) 700 pieces to gain one pound of fat, so I doubt that it would be the cause of your troubles.
  • You guessed right! MFP's default setting for protein is very low. Don't worry about going over on protein.
