Bump! Great ideas!
-
I would check through the recipe section of the message boards - lots of ideas there. One of my kids' favorites is shredded chicken tacos - cook some chicken breasts (about a pound), shred the meat, add about 1/4 c water & a packet of taco seasoning mix (or if you are staying away from sodium, just add a bit of cayenne &…

You absolutely need both calorie tracking and exercise. If you don't exercise, you will lose any muscle that you do have. Muscle in your body burns more calories over the course of the day. You can lose weight, but not be fit. Your heart, lungs and arteries all need cardiovascular workouts to do their jobs properly.…

You just have to be consistent. Your weight fluctuates all day long based on what you're eating and drinking and how many times you use the restroom. As long as you pick the same day/time each week, you can track your loss. I like Tuesday mornings right out of bed after I go to the bathroom (hey, every ounce of pee adds up…

So as to not change your overall recipe too much, maybe you can provide your original recipe & we can suggest changes to lighten it up?

I've personally not tried Zumba, but my daughter (24 yrs old) LOVES LOVES LOVES it! Says it's fun but kicks her butt good! One of these days I'll get brave and join her.

I hear ya! I got my first question today at work about my weight loss (outside of people who knew I was working on it). It's so much fun when someone notices - gives you that extra lift! Congrats on your progress!

Wow - what a change already! Fantastic - keep up the great work!

Hard to believe, but one square of Lindt Excellence 85% coca Extra Dark bar does it for me. 56 lovely calories to savor. It's rich so I don't need more than that. And I'm a girl who always said if I need a blood transfusion, make it extra dark because that's what pumps through my veins. A pound of M&Ms in 24 hours. Yea,…

I'm definitely not a professional here...from reading other what other MFPers have said in similar posts, you'll find all sorts of opinions. Several things could be at work here: 1) You shouldn't go consistently below 1,200 calories eaten (not net but actual intake) - most people use more than that in a regular day just…

The Biggest Loser uses the Body Bugs - terribly expensive but I have to assume they work.

I'm definitely not a morning person, especially for workouts. You don't have to do a real workout or even put on exercise gear other than walking shoes - a simple 10 minutes walk will get you going & according to Prevention magazine that I just read this week, research shows it helps with the "I'm tired" thing. Make sure…

I'm not familiar with that aspect of it - everything I have read (mainly in Prevention magazine) is that coffee is actually good for you, especially if you are at risk for Alzheimer's as you age. So I don't see coffee as a bad habit. However, if you are adding things to it - sugar, creamer - that could be where the problem…

Welcome! I'm not a grandmother yet but hope to be in the next few years. I read your "why I want to be here" and you said to be accountable. This site is perfect for that. Unless you choose to not record everything you eat, (which obviously defeats the purpose), it will be there every day for you to see every time…

I hate Monday mornings, which is why I weigh in on Tuesdays! I'm thinking it's a cross between water weight & the self-admitted terrible eating and no exercise weekend. Your body is reacting to the abrupt change in what you are doing to it. My husband's weight fluctuates by 3-5 pounds on the weekend because he " slacks…

Hello from Gahanna, Ohio. Welcome to the club! :)

As you'll see reading through the posts, this is a great place to be! It's motivating and supporting but it still leaves you in charge to decide how much to participate. I'm on week 7 and I tell everyone I can about MFP! Welcome & good luck on your journey. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like.

There must be a zillion posts on this topic. It really depends - you don't want to go under except on occasion otherwise your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto everything you put in it. I would think if you look at what you are eating on your hungrier days, you either were quite a bit under the day before and…

Interesting - I'm sure all the motives are different, some good, some not so good. I guess I'm outspoken enough that if someone tried to push food on me, I would just tell them no. If they persisted, I would probably have to get a little meaner about my response. I've been around people off and on over the years who bring…

I agree with erickirb that you will get used to it. In the meantime...for most DVDs that I have tried, I don't push myself horribly hard the first few times I do it - I work more on form and learning the moves. I've not done 30 day shred, but if I were to try it, I would work through it several times over the course of a…

Most fast food places carry grilled chicken sandwiches - order without the sauce & you're golden! Side salads without croutons are better than the big dinner salads - amazing how many calories they pack into some of the "healthy" salads (and those yogurt parfaits). Skip the obvious stuff - fries, milkshakes, breaded…

4 of us (all adults) approx $170 -200 avg US per week. Lots of fresh produce, chicken, not a lot of pre-made/boxed except whole wheat pasta, cereal. Very little "junk" anymore (which is actually cheaper I'm finding out!). Hubbie & I eat 95% of our meals at home/packed lunches; 2 kids eat at g/b-friends several times each…

I don't think anyone can see any information other than your profile page (click anyone's name in the post below and you'll see what anyone else can see). Even at that, I don't think people can view your exercise or food journals unless you go to your settings, diaries and click on the dot that gives friends permission to…

I love what I read in someone's signature block last week - you can't eat it if you don't buy it (not the exact quote but you get the idea). I know it's not always that simple (someone else might be providing candy in the office), but if it's not in the house, you can't eat it. After awhile, the cravings will subside. I…

Prayers going up! She'll get through this - stay positive & hang in there!

My husband swears by Cold-Eeze lozenges (homeopathic remedy with zinc - no artificial color or preservatives). I personally don't like the taste but they do work. The one caveat - you need to take them at the beginning of your cold. They don't do a whole lot 6-7 days in. Hope you feel better!

Here is an email I just sent last week to someone on MFP. Really you can take about any recipe & make it healthier just by adjusting the ingredients. IAdd a vegetable if needed or a salad for a meal. The third recipe is higher, but for 355 calories, you get a good dinner that the men in my family adore. You can also leave…

Welcome! I've been here 6 weeks and can tell you it has helped me immensely. In the past, I have dropped 10 pounds & then given up, but I do feel like this site is what is keeping me going. You'll find a lot of advice - good & maybe not so good so you have to find out what works for you - and it's a great support system!…

Wow - I live in Gahanna! I work out at home so I don't know how much I can help in that arena but I am great online support! You've done a fabulous job losing over 100 pounds, so I know you can get to where you want to be. Welcome & please add me as a friend!

Agree with the others - I get a lot more out of this site than I do from the people around me every day. Not that they don't care, they just don't think to say "hey, good job" or "way to go" - the little things you'll get from people here. Feel free to add me as a friend & we can support each other on our journeys to…
