Might be calories, or less sugar or caffeine. I don't know where you cut calories, but as an example, chocolate has caffeine. I had a dull headache the first few days because I didn't eat any (and I don't drink coffee or much soda). It also could be just the calories. I was very grumpy for about a week as my body reacted…

Try writing down something every day - morning, evening or whatever time is best for you - write down one good thing about yourself. It could be something you did that day, how you helped someone else out, didn't eat something that you were craving, set aside 5 minutes to read, whatever but it needs to be positive. If you…

You are eating healthy but yes sometimes those healthy calories add up. If you are still exercising, that will add some calories back into the day that you can eat. You will see different opinions on that topic (don't eat your exercise calories, eat part of your exercise calories, eat all of your exercise calories) so it…

I don't believe in banning anything from what I eat. This is a life change, not a quick fix diet. Step back and if you still crave it, have a bite. My issue is chocolate. I try not to keep sweets in the house because I would just go crazy, but at work I do have an 85% cocao bar. It's nearly $3.00 for the darn thing, so…

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about it so I can't offer advice. What I can off is prayers going up for her and your entire family as you face this struggle together. Keep us posted!

I don't know much about the details of WLS, but my best friend's daughter had it and I know it was NOT the easy way out. Prevention had a great article about 3 sisters who had it, too. To those who think it's easy, well they just aren't very well educated about the whole thing. Good luck in your journey - feel free to add…

The answers seem to be focused on her food habits. Is she exercising at all? I do think breaking her calories up is a better way to go, but if she's not willing to change that, I would suggest exercise. If she's not doing anything physical now she might lose some weight by walking after her meal in the evening? Just a…

You're a lifesaver - wanted to search for the recipe today but haven't found the time. Thanks bunches!

I'm right there with you. I'm 48. Been here 5 weeks, looking to lose about 40 more. Two kids still at home, old enough to leave & self-sufficient, so we're almost empty-nesters. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like & we can support each other!

I think the jury is still out on artificial sweeteners - it depends upon which opinion you are reading (same thing as the whole high fructose corn syrup thing - is it okay or not?). I have a friend who worked at Jenny Craig years ago and back then they didn't want you to drink diet soda (I assume that's still the same).…

Not nuts at all! We have to cheer our successes, big or small. Way to go!

In one word - crockpot! There are lots of healthy things you can cook in it and you just have to plan a bit. Put in your food in the morning before all those errands start and dinner is ready when you walk in the door. Just add a salad or fresh fruit if you need to round out the meal. Allrecipes.com has lots of healthy…

My goal is two-fold: 1) Not to let my scale this morning undo what I've accomplished so far (I always weigh in on Tuesdays, but I knew Sunday was a bad day & I just needed to know, but how do 450 extra calories on 1 day when you were under 350 calories the day before equate to 1.8 lbs????) 2) Increase my running minutes…

Hi Sherri. Welcome! I'm relatively new - only 5 weeks in as of tomorrow. I'm down 10 and have about 30 more I'd like to lose. I'd be happy to have you add me as a friend. Good luck!

Please don't be so hard on yourself. Take joy in what you can at the moment - you've started on the right track just by knowing you need to do something to get healthier. You've been doing workouts. Just give it some time. You are doing the right things and it will pay off. Everyone is different, so if eating the same…

FYI - just entered it in the recipe section just to see - comes up about 81 calories (based on the 14 servings & translating the 1 cup brown sugar to 48 teaspoons per a measurement converter). Not sure how Splenda works - if you can use half as much Splenda in place of the brown sugar, it only saves about 20 calories. I'm…

Think this is going in the recipe book!

Welcome to the site! I'm relatively new - on week 4 - and it really is motivating. I love logging what I do and seeing the results every time I'm on the site. It will be a long process for me - trying to do it right this time instead of the old crash & burn method. Good luck on your journey!

I just completed week 3 and it took me until last week to figure it out. If you "bump", it puts the topic & all the posts in your message boards/My Topics section so you can easily find it later. For example, if you see a post from someone with great "exercises if you have 10 minutes" & you want to be able to find it…

Bump! Bump! New to this and just figured out what the heck that means!

i'm in week 2 and our starting weights are almost the same (187.6 for me). I agree, MFP is great - I'm a big planner, so I love putting in what I'm eating and what I'm going to do for exercise for the day in the morning. I feel more accountable because it's logged, so the evenings when I don't feel like getting on the…

I like Mari Winsor's pilates DVDs (you buy them online). They're a little pricier than what you can get at your local retail store, but I think well worth it. She has several different kinds. I started years ago with her Basic 3-DVD set (available on eBay). There is a DVD that takes you through the moves, then a DVD of the…

My personal opinion - If you're buying clothing from the plus size department of a store (the clothing comes in 1X, 2X, etc and sizes by numbers are typically higher than a 16), then you're plus size. Although not pear shaped, I weigh a lot more than you do and I straddle the departments depending upon the clothing. I…
