amiscci- I always find it hard to understand how any parent could chose not to be supportive of their children no matter what the circumstances. Your "rental daughter" is very fortunate to have you as her family now. So happy for her to have found people to give her a chance to become all she can. It sounds like she is…

Dixie- So sorry for all you are going through. Sending you and your husband hugs and prayers. Deb A

I started the 30 day shred, but found the jumping moves to be difficult (bothered my knees). I have decided to start it again and modify the jumping rope moves to fast side steps or jogging in place. The rest of the workout was very doable. I am 57, recently lost 70 pounds, walk 3 miles a day briskly and kayak whenever I…

Connie- love the idea of putting your goals on your screen-saver! Just came back from my doctor's. I am (still) up a little from a month ago so I updated my ticker. I kept hoping the weight would just go away, but it hasn't so I will acknowledge it and attack it! My doctor looked at my mfp food journal and we decided to…

Had a great day on the water. We took a tour of the Voyager canoe route taken by French fur traders. 10 of us paddled for two hours while we heard the history of the fur traders. It was interesting and good exercise. We had my MIL with us (she sat out the canoe paddle) and took her through a butterfly house and then on a…

Welcome to all of the new people! You will love the support, motivation and ideas from this group. I know that reading these posts helps me stay focused on my goals. Although I have done well with food this week, I haven't gotten as much exercise in for the last few days as I like. We did go kayaking and have gone on some…

Today is the last day of training on how to use iPads in the classroom. We have learned a lot and I have also learned how much more I need to learn! This should be an interesting year. I know my students will adapt quickly. I am sure they will be teaching me! The downside to all of this is that all I have done for three…

slywheat- Welcome! Just keep coming back and posting. You will find everyone here to be very encouraging and helpful. We spent yesterday kayaking with friends. A beautiful day on the lake and lots of calories burned! Today through Friday, I have to go into work for training on how to use i-pads in the classroom. All of my…

Mary- Enjoy your travels! A few years ago we went to Grand Canyon, Painted desert, White Sands, etc. when my daughter was studying at NMSU at Las Cruzes. Great memories! Love to travel, but rarely get to. Something to look forward to after retirement. Lin- The 30 day shred is a Jillian Michaels DVD that is sooo hard! I am…

Dora- Welcome! Sorry you have had so many health issues to deal with. You have found a fantastic group of women to give you support and motivation!

Good morning all! It is so much cooler today than it has been. I am actually looking forward to my long walk- in fact am going to walk/run. Also doing 30 day shred, but it will take much more than 30 days to complete. Too many other activities like kayaking, chores:grumble: , and spending time with MIL who is visiting for…

It has been HOT here today! Was a good day for kayaking. There was a great breeze on the lake. Wish I could afford a house on a lake somewhere where I could be out on it all year round. Maybe after we retire! I've been getting in more exercise daily and have been logging my food faithfully. Hope the scales actually go down…

I HAD a fitbit for 48 hours before losing it:cry: Contacted the company and they are sending me a replacement, I loved it while I had it and waiting for the replacement to arrive. I too would like to know where other ladies wear theirs. Don't want to lose this one!!

What an awesome inspiration! I have seen several people who have gone through the surgery and not maintained the weight loss. It is really sad because most of them now have other issues related to the surgery. I do know one women who had the surgery and is doing awesome, but she runs, bikes, etc. In fact she has just…

Jen- Where in NY? I live in Oneida (near Syracuse). Got a new kayak yesterday- it is so much easier to paddle:smile:  The heat and humidity are getting to me. Walked 3 miles this morning as fast as I could, but not as fast as usual. Probably sweated more than usual though. Wish we were closer to a lake so that…

Michele- I chose NOT to have surgery for weight loss. I have seen a few people with good success, but more for whom it did not work. My doctor at the weight loss clinic combines diet, exercise, behavior modification, and lots of moral support to help us learn how to find a balance that will keep us healthy for life. She is…

Jen- My stepson was in Iraq for two tours. I couldn't watch the news for weeks after he was deployed. At the time he was there and where he was, he was only able to send some letters. I understand what you are going through. Will be praying for his safe return. Deb A

Had one for 48 hours before I lost it. It was clipped to my waistband and all I did was go out to dinner- not any crazy moves that would cause it to come off. Loved it while I had it, but that was an expensive 2 day's worth.

Way to go!! It is amazing how quickly our bodies will adapt to what we ask of them.

Great list! Applies to all areas of our lives. Can I use parts of it with my students in the fall? Love the way you hit on most of the reasons we do not achieve what we are capable of- and steps to take to achieve our goals.

It is never too late! I too have tried all different diets and exercise programs for decades. Sometimes I would lose some of the weight, but always put it back on. At 56 I decided I needed to find something that would work for life and saw a bariatric specialist. She has helped me turn my health around. She has taught me…

I have lost 70 and have some loose skin, but I am also 57.:ohwell: It does seem to be tightening up slowly with exercise.

This morning I was in the middle of typing a post when it all disappeared!Didn't have time to retype it all. Will try again tomorrow. I bought a Fitbit today and will be using it as soon as I figure it out! I also got new running shoes and sneakers for cross-training that I can use for Zumba classes. Now I have to workout…
