I like to exercise with any music that's got a driving, constant beat, regardless of who the artist is or when it was released ... if it can pound a rhythm into my head and make me forget I'm exercising, I want it on my ipod! Currently I've been listening to a lot of top 40 like Lady Gaga, LMFAO, and Nicki Minaj, and also…

I count any decaffeinated/herbal tea as water, as long as it's just tea (leaves, not powder) and water, with no sugar or sugar substitute, because it is hydrating.

My wrists only, not my forearms. It feels like the heavier weights (heavier for me, anyway) are too heavy for my wrists to support them without feeling ... achy? strained? I can't think of the right word. It's not a sharp pain. I don't seem to have too much trouble with the muscles I'm trying to work, for example, biceps…

Thank you -- that looks like very helpful information I might be able to use as I'm adjusting my workout.

My wrists hurt the most on bicep curls, and I'm pretty sure I'm ok with form on these. For one thing, I can see the weight, so I know I'm not tilting it to one side or bending my wrists. My elbows are in toward my sides, and I pull the weight directly toward my shoulder with my wrists facing my shoulder. Is that correct?
-
Oh. Another question, while I'm thinking of it -- if your wrists hurt during weight lifting, is that an indication that your weights are too heavy?

Thank you, and also thanks Annavt09 for suggesting Jamie Eason. I may look into these when I am able.

I should have mentioned that I am working out at home, so I don't have access to weight machines. Sorry for the dumbed down recap, but I think you're saying that it would be a better use of time to do fewer exercises that target more than one muscle group at a time? That sounds like a good idea. I'm going to look into it.…

I've read that it's good for burning calories and building muscle to vary the strength training exercises you do -- for example, you may work your biceps with two or three different exercises on different days or in different workouts, and though the exercises are similar, they work the biceps from slightly different…

That information is very helpful. Thank you.

OK ... My goal is to use the highest weight I can without injuring myself. I don't know a lot about weight training, but obviously there is a difference between the burn of pushing your muscles and the pain of injuring yourself. It's good to know I can try fewer reps, and with that in mind, I'll just stick with the same…

I didn't realize I could do one or a few reps with heavier weights and then use the lighter ones. I never even thought of that. I was trying to do the same number of reps every time -- 12, 15 or 20. I'm new to any kind of consistency with weight training, so this is really the first time I'm trying to use heavier weights…

I don't have a problem with heavier weights on bicep curls, I have a problem with more than 5 lbs on shoulder presses. I don't typically lift my grocery bags over my head...

I'm fairly confident that I know what good form looks like, although I'm sure there's always room for improvement. I definitely can't use heavier weight on any of my current 5lb upper body exercises, but I may see if I can try heavier weights and lower reps on some of the other exercises. Since this change will likely…

Just to reply to your post, thanks for the information. I will definitely read more about it when I have the time. My personal take on this type of thing is to go with the conventionally & widely accepted opinions of experts until I have heard/read more information about multiple studies over a period of time, as I am not…

Has this produced good results for you? Have you ever tried varying exercises every workout and, if so, does the 4-6 week method work better for you?
-
I attempted to do a shoulder press with an 8 lb weight last week and hurt my shoulder, so I'm going to need a little more time before I can do all my upper body exercises with 8lb or higher.

Another thing I think Weight Watchers recommends is filling each plate with 1/2 vegetables, 1/4 protein and 1/4 carbohydrates. That seems to work pretty well for some people who want to eat healthy and don't like to count calories.

Losing weight is going to help your heart and body overall, probably no matter how you lose it, but according to what I understand, a diet low in saturated fat is better for heart health.

- Fresh or frozen (not canned) fruits and vegetables - Lean protein (beans, chicken/turkey breast, fish, tofu, very lean beef) - If you eat grains, they should be 100% whole grains (I think gluten intolerant people can have brown rice?) - Calcium, whether low fat dairy or vegetarian sources like soy/almond milk or…

Thank you for the suggestions. I usually drink water during and after my workouts, but the amount varies. Maybe I will try to keep track of the timing and amounts to see if I can pinpoint the problem.

Thank you!

These were delicious. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Almonds are a great source of vitamin E, which is a difficult vitamin to get via food sources without supplementing. Almond butter also has more calcium, magnesium and iron than peanut butter -- at least according to the labels I've read.

Nuts and dried fruits are a great way to boost your calories. Trail mix is calorie dense and usually nutritious.

You could try switching to plain yogurt sweetened with stevia or vanilla extract and a small amount of sugar to taste. It's not to difficult to get used to once you've had it a few times.
