As you can see by the replies, I think it varies a lot! I am training for a half and up to 13.5 on my long runs. I didn't need to carry anything to hydrate until I was running more than 6-7 miles, and didn't really feel a need to be refueling until around 9-10. My pace is on the slower side; I'll probably finish my half in…

I heated up in the microwave for a couple of minutes but that's just because I like my oatmeal warm. :)

I don't have the best pictures . . . but I'll try. I am 5'5" (5'5" and 1/4 if you want to get real technical about it, and sometimes I do, LOL). I have never been really overweight or obese but struggled a lot to lose the baby weight after my second child was born. I gained about 40lbs in each of two pregnancies. I lost it…

Just wanted to say that I tried this after my long run this weekend - added some walnuts, too - and it was incredible!! :)

I am glad I saw this. My 4 year old wants to try running with her mama, too. :)

I usually count Jillian DVDs as circuit training.

I'm slow, not fat. I've been running off and on for over 15 years, but just got more serious in the last 2 years and am running my first half marathon in October. I can tell you what I think every time I see someone who is overweight, running or walking, struggling or passing me by - I think "good on you." It inspires me…

Same here! LOL I actually normally wake up between 5:15 and 5:45, so not quiiiitte 5am, but close. I work out pretty much every day unless I'm sick or just have had a horrible nights' sleep for some reason. I run 4-5x a week and strength train or do yoga on the other days. It's as much a part of my routine as brushing my…

YES! THIS ^^ I often thought of that when my mom was alive, ravaged by rheumatoid arthritis - what would SHE have given to be able to run again? And then, this is going to sound horrible, but I am a working mom of two, aged 4 and 2 years, married to a wonderful, amazing husband, but sometimes . . . I just run to run away…

And FWIW, my number one reason for no peanut butter in your bedroom would be "because you'll make a mess!" LOL! At least my kids would. That's more of a cleaning rule than a diet rule at our house. We eat (snacks included) either at the table or sometimes on the couch in the family room (hardwood floor) but not in bedrooms…

These are pretty much the "rules" at my house, too! Except for the cereal thing - don't need a rule there. My kids will eat cereal but are not crazy about it. My kids are 2 and 4 years old right now and I don't believe I've ever used the word "fat" around them, certainly not in context of talking about people. We don't ban…

I like Bob Harper's Kettlebell Cardio Shred but I do agree with everyone about being really careful with your form. Bob does take some time to go over form, but it's always better safe than sorry and I already had pretty good awareness of my own body mechanics. Even so, I've had to especially watch it with my shoulders and…

Just came back to this - I believe it! I should been more clear in my post. When I mentioned Olympic caliber I was thinking of the pace Olympic marathon runners sustain over the course of a full 26.2 (which is I think still at about 5 minute miles). For just an all-out mile, I wouldn't have known the pace off-hand, but…

I've had to cut dairy, not because of an allergy, but because I'm pretty lactose intolerant. So for me it's not the casein that's a problem and IF I take a lactaid, I can eat a smallish amount of dairy (ice cream, cheese) at a time. I can also use lactose-free milk. Having said that, before I had some pretty uncomfortable…

That's going to vary a LOT! I think most people can manage about a 10-11 minute mile when they are starting out, some maybe a bit slower. The more you run and work at it, the faster you will get, up to a point. I am slow. I am always going to be slow. I'm not even worried about being slow. :) But, I AM faster than I used…

My husband has a 4 bottle - I think - hydration belt. I personally can't stand anything around my waist when I run, so I carry a hand-held bottle with a strap. It only holds about 10-12oz, but that's enough for me at the distances I am doing. I started needing to carry water with me when I got to about 9+ miles on long…

Can't stand running on a treadmill. Makes me feel like a hamster on a wheel, plus oddly enough, it's actually harder on my knees. Too bouncy I think.
