  • The calories on here are really just general estimates. Your burn is going to depend on more than just your height, weight, and age. Three possible suggestions: 1. Buy a heart-rate monitor for a better way to track calories burned. 2. Be conservative about eating back your exercise cals. Start eating back only 50%, wait a…
  • I'm not able to keep to the lower cals I do during the week so I just try to stay really active. We'll be going out to lunch tomorrow but I'm spending two hours in the morning pushing the kids around a roller rink while skating. At least 30 minutes of running in the afternoon and generally just out and about or housework.…
  • I have a related question... As summer approaches, we'll have lots of farmer's markets in the area. I haven't shopped them since I moved here and I'm wondering if there is a difference between a commercial chain of farmer's markets (Coleman's in my area) and the farmer's markets sponsored by cities/townships. Any ideas on…
  • 15 lbs. I had 35 to lose total.
  • I do agree with not limiting yourself or saying you can't achieve it. We all are capable of anything we work hard enough for. That said, there isn't a one size fits all goal weight. I've shared this story before but it was a real eye opener for me. My mother-in-law is 5'10" and very small framed. She looks healthy at…
  • Beautifully said. Thank you.
  • If you don't have the support of a spouse - it can be really tough. There are lots of great suggestions but not all of them will work when you have a high maintenance child. I have one easy, breezy baby. I could work out for hours while she'd entertain herself. I also have one high maintenance child. Up early, early in the…
  • Haha! I was not looking for heathier options. I knew exactly what I was eating. I was well within my cals, I stayed full until my pre-workout snack, and enjoyed the small but salty bites. This was just a commentary on how strange it is that eating smaller portions is considered abnormal.
  • I don't mind running on the treadmill - although I prefer outside - but I have the same problem with speed. After lots of self-study - I found I take shorter steps on the treadmill. I am taking just as many steps and my heart-rate is the same but stride is shorter. Maybe I'm wrong - but for now I just don't worry about it.…
  • I log everything. I once calculated the tiny bit of peanut butter I licked off my finger while cooking. I don't drink alcohol regularly but would log it if I did. I log everything on the UGLY days when I've had that burger and fry combo or huge bowl of ice cream. It is working for me. If what you are doing is working for…
  • If you need peace of mind, find out your body fat % as others have suggested. My husband is 6'5" and very muscular - he's put a lot of work into muscle growth. With a defined 6-pack and a low bf %, his doctor says he is technically obese. He looks fantastic and doesn't let it bother him.
  • I was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma when I was 10. Yep, it is real. I was 10, healthy weight, and very active. One day while being very active, I couldn't breathe. My asthma is tied to my allergies. I have really bad seasonal allergies. When my allergies are bad, I need a control inhaler and a rescue inhaler. When…
  • One idea is that it is because you are so close to goal. I carry a TON of water weight when BFing. When I stop, I lose about 5lbs within a week. If you dropped 5lbs, you'd be within 1lb of goal. Do you find you look about the same or fit in the same clothes you did when you were 6lbs lighter? When BFing, I was about 10lbs…
  • Self-esteem is about a lot more than just how she looks but seems to manifest in appearance for women. One of the best definitions I heard about self-confidence is that a person with good self-confidence believes they can take on anything life throws at them. That they are capable and know it. Your wife is young. You are…
  • Please don't take this negatively - it was a lesson I learned lately and I thought I'd share in case it helps. You may be in healthy weight RANGE but that may not be the best weight for you. You may need to lose more weight to see the appearance you want. My mother-in-law is 5'10". She got down into healthy weight range…
  • MFP doesn't differentiate between sugars. Fruit sugars, sugars from milk, and plain old white sugar all count towards your sugar goal. I've seen a couple technical support posts asking MFP to separate it out. Probably because we all go over.
  • Block feeding. Worked for me. I also used the oversupply in my favor before I went back to work. I pumped between feedings to get a huge supply of frozen milk. Never had to stress about supplemental pumping.
  • Have you changed anything else? Both my average and high heart rates are higher when I'm on very little sleep or when I've eaten less that day (definitely higher if I workout first thing in the morning). My heart rate is also higher during TOM. I'm no scientist, I just have 6 months of my own HRM data to go by.
  • I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old (turned 1 TODAY!). I can totally feel your pain. You don't mention how much/if your husband can help. Depending on the personalities of your children, it will really make a difference on what you can do. I have one child who is extremely demanding and will not cooperate if I try to work…
  • Anyone can be healthy and look great. The size is totally arbitrary. My sister and mother-in-law are extremely small boned but have wide hips. My mother-in-law is 5'10" and weighs 135lbs. She is still in a size 10. I am larger framed but do not have particularly wide hips. I am 5'5" and weigh 170lbs. I easily wear my…
  • The THIRD time I tried to train for 5K distance. 2008 - ran for 9 weeks, still didn't like it, quit. 2010 - ran for 15+ weeks, still didn't like it, quit. 2013 - been running for 7 weeks, FRICKIN LOVE IT. I don't know what changed. I'm approximately the same weight as all the other times. I'm older now. I think the only…
  • I second the advice to register for a 5K at least 10-12 weeks out. Then, tell everyone you know that you will be running a 5K on whatever date. This is the only thing that kept me going some days. I knew that people were going to ask me how my 5K went and I didn't want to say, "Umm...I didn't train so I didn't do it." I…
  • 5'5" SW: 185.8 CW: 171.3 GW: 145 I have a couple friends who are close to twin status - but it can't hurt to have more!
  • Don't let the doubt creep in. You've gotten this far and you can continue. My vent - I am on a new birth control that is making me want to eat everything in the house, get in road rage fights, and sleep all day. GAHHHHHH! Don't know if I can make it to my doc appointment.
  • I've been making my own for about a month. Love that I can pick what goes in them. No more store bought for me!
  • @Mom A REAL, real housewife :D
  • Yelling when they finish a sprint. Oh wait, my treadmill is in my basement and I'm the only one who uses it. :ohwell:
  • Everyone is going to be different but for me that is totally possible. Muscle soreness mixed with higher sodium intake (maybe even add some hormones in there) and I can easily be up 5+ lbs. Day-to-day weight changes a lot. So I don't know if it will ever "go away" necessarily but the amount of water you're holding will…
  • To get a full extension on your legs - you should have a slight bend only. Also to engage your core muscles. You can't lean on the handle bars the same way when the seat is set properly. I'm not an expert but this is what I was told in class when I asked the same question.
  • Better Maid HOT Chips - Better Maid is a Detroit brand. OR Ice cream. Any ice cream. Large quantities of any ice cream.
