When I was first here I felt like I was failing because I couldn't hit the MFP goal everyday. I could go 2 or 3 days then I'd be all cranky and at odds and blow it. Just as I was about to quit I realized that even on the days that I "blew it" I was still doing better than before I was on MFP. I was happier much once I gave…

I think it's harder.... you get lots of encouragement as you lose, but not so much as you maintain. you have to learn another new way of eating. when i was losing I over estimated what I ate and underestimate my exercise. when you want to stop losing you have to be a bit more precise. And you have to recognize that MFP is…

I've recently fallen in love with farina! It's a hot whole wheat cereal and it keeps my full FOREVER! Especial if I melt a slice of american cheese in it. Comes out to about 170 cal. i think...but it's good fuel that keeps me going.

When I was first here someone told me to think of it like a roll of paper towels. Take 5 towel off of a new roll and you don't notice a difference... take 5 towel off of a quarter of a roll... and it's a dramatic change. Keep up with the good work! Try not to stress, just keep on keeping on.

Doctor's are notoriously poorly educated in the field of nutrition.

Nope, I used to think this, but it's not true.... COFFEE DOES NOT DEHYDRATE YOU... It just hydrates your marginally less effectively... read a study on this it said it's okay to count coffee as water . Will go find the link and hit edit to paste it here Here you go. MAYO CLINIC SAYS:…

If it's just regular around the house maintenance I consider it part of my daily activities. (Laundry, dishes, vacuuming...) BUT I do count it if... If it's a big project or if I clean my house and then go clean my elder Mom's house. (I'll count what i do around her house, but not what I do in my own.)

A little concerned about what your goal weight is. As an old fart here I think you young 'uns are often over ambitions. Eat for your health.. Be strong and energetic and capable! Sounds trite at 18, but at 52 I've got to say your health is everything. Don't jeopardize your health to achieve an arbitrary number. But take if…

No you work to lose weight. but MFP is a great tool. For tracking the info you need to do it. If you are scrupulous in logging your food. You'll probably learn things about your eating habits that surprise you. (For me it was all the hidden sugar in my diet... I thought i was making healthy choices with real food) So you…

Here is what worked for me. Been in maintenance since 2011 I bounce around in a 5 lb range... The good news is you don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better. ++Track for a week or two before worrying about losing. This way you'll see where you really stand, odds are it is different than where you thought you…

I put it in the fridge, because the oils stay mixed in. It'll be fine if you leave it out, (you store other oils at room temp...) it will just separate.

Watch your sugar. BOTH sugar and ARTIFICIAL sweeteners increase your appetite... Watch out for hidden sugars especially in anything prepackaged or processed. I have a sweet tooth so I try to avoid hidden sugars in "real foods" so I can have a snack Sugar also prevents the absorption of certain nutrients like calcium. If…

50 lb in 6 months seems an awful lot, awful fast to me. Studies say the slower you lose the better the odds are you'll keep it off. Took me 15 months to lose 33 lbs. (5' 6.5" started at 175 got down to 142, but the bottom line is I can't maintain 142 and live the life I want to. So on maintenance I've been shooting for…

I remember watching Bewitched as a child and telling my Mom that I wanted Darren Stevens' job. Mom said don't go into Advertising, you'll get ulcers. I went into Advertising and got ulcers. Segued over to Graphic Design.

Fall down 7 times get up 8... Failure is part of the process. Try something, then adjust it, then try again. Rinse and repeat Here is what worked for me. I'm not in the same place you are, but I have felt better since I've improved my diet.. Off the top of my head. 1) Make sure you get enough plant and fish based fats... I like to call them "happy fats" (i Was diagnosed w/ high-cholesterol and had been on low-fat diets for years, I think that was a mistake for me.) 2)…

First off (and I'm sure you know this and just needed to vent) you can't control other people. Your wife has to do it for herself, not for you. To your credit it doesn't sound like you are pressuring her to change, just that she's a bit jealous of the changes you've made and doesn't see herself as capable of it. my vent…
