Thank you so much, everyone. I couldn't have done it without you, and I don't know that I'll be able to repeat this A1c now that I am off of medication. It's been quite the adventure. It's so good to know that I have your support, no matter what. You all definitely have mine. Always. Bree

And This is the reason poor people are obese. It's not their fault. They need calories to survive. They cannot survive on a head of lettuce or a can of chicken. High carb/ high sugar meals go further. They are Not overeating.

Ok. I called the doctor and was surprised that she wasn't at all surprised. She said, "I expected this from you." lol! I guess I'm a trouble maker. But, I did seem to sell her on the very low carb and high fat diet to aid in the treatment of diabetes. I gave her page after page of research, the poor woman. :) In short, she…

Ok, I didn't exercise yesterday because I just couldn't get my BGs out of the 60's, except 2 hours after I ate I would hit the 70's. But, then last night, I hit the 40's and low 50's.. At midnight, I had a piece of chocolate because that's the only real sweet thing I have in the house. At 5 AM (my normal wake up time) my…

Welcome! You can add me, too. I was diagnosed in September with an A1C of 10.5% Since, I have lost 43 pounds. I should get my new A1C soon, but I write my BGs in the notes section of my Food Diary, so I have a pretty good idea of where I'll be (I hope). I, too, had those skin problems on my knees, ankles, and elbows which…

Two hours after exercise - 73! Wow, that sure did take a while to come down. Thanks you guys. I guess I need to research this a little more so that I know what to expect from which exercise.. i.e. running a short distance vs. walking for hours. Walking for hours tends to lower my BG right away, pushing myself in the…

Forget the nutritionist. Go here: www.diabetesforum.com. Ask about VLCHF diabetic diet. It saved my life.. is along the lines of a low carb diet specifically for diabetics. I've been on this for 3 and a half months and have already lost 42 pounds.

No kidding!! I found this out last night and all I had was 5 ounces of a dry red wine!!! Gracious!! I felt absolutely hammered.

Since I posted on October 29th, I've lost 16 pounds, so I didn't make my 20 pounds. Sadly, I didn't really exercise, either. But, I'll take it!!! And, I'm sorry for being a ghost.. but, I'm a Gentle one! :) I have 27.2 more pounds to go, and then I'll reassess. We should do this again!

I, too, loved reading about your transformation. Definitely let me know when you have it up and running. I'm still at the ice cream and shirataki noodle stage and would love to know how you graduated from that. I'm forced to eat ice cream and cheesecake, (sugar free and wheat free) and egg custard (sugar free, carb free)…

I would strongly advise that you lower your carb intake. It seems that your body is having a great deal of trouble processing them. I'm on the same medication that you are on and the only thing that brings my BGs way down is to seriously limit the amount of carbs I take in. For me, it has to be less than 30 grams per Day.…

That is amazing and inspirational.

I know how you feel, it's so hard to begin and to trudge on sometimes. But, you can do this; you really can.. one day at a time, even one meal at a time. Small steps lead to longer steps. Gather all the support that you can from the people on this site. There are many of us who feel as you do.. you are not alone.

I completely reversed my rather bad diabetes with a keto diet. My doctors had never heard of it for the treatment of diabetes and were not on board until they saw my results. But, if I go off of it, I'm in trouble again. I'm also completely off of wheat (except the occasional off plan day), soy, corn, beets, of course…

Thank you all for the invaluable information. I'm still so new to this, even 3 months in. I'm finding that there's a big learning curve when it comes to diabetes.. so much to know, to understand, so many different diets to follow, finding what works for me, medications, what they do and don't do.. It's just a lot. I will…

I'm almost in your boat! Welcome aboard. :)

Oh my goodness, yes. I have an answer for you. I stumbled upon this because I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes and I am a researcher. I'll message you because the research is recent and people are not going like it. :) I started this diet/life-change 3 months ago and I rarely exercise--I've lost 39 pounds in…

Thanks. I wound up taking the Metformin and was just fine this morning. Thank you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! But, I am glad you are coming through well. Congratulations on the 45 lbs you have lost so far. I was diagnosed myself only a few months ago. You can add me if you like.

You know, you have a point. I was watching figure skating the other day, and there was a big difference between the Asian Americans and the other Asians. The Asian Americans were definitely much heavier. It must be their diet, somehow.

Actually, you should always watch your sugar intake. Excess sugar increases insulin in your body. Whatever you can't use, the hormone insulin turns into fat (that's insulin's second job). Everything in moderation. You may not need to follow the MFP advice if you have no family history of diabetes, but you should keep it as…

Shrimp and cabbage (not necessarily together) really helps me to lose weight. Anything with a lot of carbs like bread or rice or potatoes always makes me gain weight and want to eat more.
-
I was actually up 4 pounds, as well. Did I eat the extra 14,000 calories? You betcha--over a few days. :) Do I regret it? Not one bit. I had a fantastic time. Was it sodium? Nope.. I did most of the cooking. :) I'm just amazed at how quickly those calories add up. This experience will prepare me for Christmas break.

BRAVO!!!! I loved, loved, loved that article. I, too, can't even look at oatmeal or any kind of wheat or potatoes or anything starchy without my blood glucose hitting the glucose ceiling of doom. I try to keep my carbs under 30 grams per day, and I manage this on most days. Don't even talk to me about fruit unless it's…

If you are gaining weight around the middle, are having trouble losing weight (even on 1200), and are only 42.. I would have to say that it is most probably insulin resistance. I'm 45, a newly diagnosed diabetic (but, I've probably had it for a few years). I was unable to lose weight, even on 1200 calories a day for 5…
