I've tried to get mine to workout with me - he blatantly refuses most of the time. If I'm doing something at home, he either gropes me while I'm doing it or tries to "correct" me. I keep warning him if he doesn't start working out, his wife is gonna be able to bench press him one of these days.

I try to walk everyday, but I aim for 3-4 days of hard workouts. I'm starting weight lifting and need the "day" off after to recover. Call me a wuss, but I can't handle muscle pain on top of arthritis pain on a daily basis, I need a break day between.

I do protein shakes because: 1- they fill me up and keep the hungries away, 2 - extra protein cause I can't eat that much chicken in a day & 3 - to help repair muscle damage, not to "bulk" it. The last one least of all, I will do a scoop after major workouts. I do Gold Standard 100% Whey, low carb & high protein :)

I wear Vibrams (barefoot running shoes) at the gym for both cardo & weights, but I also wear them 24/7 - 365. At home, everything is done barefoot and I have wooden floors. As long as your careful (in the beginning) and have good traction, go for it.
