Last test was around 800 .. I've tested as low as 300, and as high as 950. Doc is adamant about no phlebotomy until I go over 1000. I'm thinking of just gorging on Liver before my next check. Get that number to where it forces his hand.

My Ferritin has not been over 1000 yet. I'm working on diet control. It's near friggin impossible to eat low iron in modern america. Wish the doc would just order the phlebotomy and get on with it, because I hate just flirting on the edge, as I have been doing for a couple years now. And I want a *kitten* bowl of cereal.

There's some things you can do that help. Avoid Cirtus. Vitamin C helps in the absorption of iron. Drink Black tea - the tannins will interfere with the absorption of iron. Are you at the point where you need phlebotomy, or are you trying to avoid getting there?
-
Yep. I have it. For the most part it only gets diagnosed in men as they get older. It usually remains undiagnosed in women until well after menopause. It takes a long time for the Iron to build up to dangerous and diagnosable levels. I could give 2 kittens about steak. I miss clams and cereal. Both of my sons have tested…

I know they're just 2 expressions of the same practical end. Yes it's easy to convert between calories and macros. But IIFYM also involves maintaining macro ratios, not just counting calories. Sure 200g Carb + 100g protein + 50g Fat = 1650 cals . but iifym doesn't mean "Just eat 1650 calories without regard to where you…
-
That's just calorie counting, not IIFYM. With IIFYM you can't just eat whatever you want, it has to y'know .. fit .. your .. uhhh .. macros. IIFYM also involves not eating something if it doesn't fit.

You see .. if someone felt the need to tell me I was gaining weight, I would not look at that any differently than if they had called me stupid. Did they think I didn't know??? Do they think they've given me some insight that I didn't have? How arrogant and condescending do you have to be to do that?
-
Have you ever tried telling someone they are getting fat? It doesn't go well. You would have written some BS post about THAT if it had happened
-
As long as your average is on target, hitting or missing a particular number on any given day doesn't matter.
-
I'll eat super light or fast on drinkin' days. Doing that has the added benefit that it takes a lot less alcohol, so calories stay down all the way around.
-
I look at what's in it .. estimate quantities .. Close enough is good enough. Missing by 100 cals on a salad won't have any impact, long run.
-
That's gonna be the fastest way, for sure.
-
You um ... DO need it all the time. To live.

I find that the #1 influence on my cholesterol number is how much cardio I'm doing. For me, attempts to control cholesterol via diet were unsuccessful.

I can't say there's a food or foods I avoid. If there are, it would change day to day. I avoid things that aren't worth it. What's the taste to calorie ratio? How's the nutrients? Where am I on my macros? Is it good enough that I don't care where I am on my macros? But the definition of "worth it" changes too. Put wings,…

Seals and Crofts is an excellent substitute for Bread

I'm not a complete jerk about it. To people. IRL. Hence the passive-aggressive post here. I do try to do things to minimize impact like .. just BARELY get it warm enough to eat. I've eaten it cold when I just didnt want to deal with the argument today ... but as someone who has issues with iron that take a lot of protein…

Dear Annoying Coworker Who Complains Whenever I Microwave Fish, Go *kitten* yourself. I don't care. I don't care about your delicate nose. I don't care that you don't like how it smells, or that it "ruins your afternoon". I just don't care. Did you know that every time you complain, all it does is make me decide to bring…

I don't agree. I started this at over 300 lbs, and for that first month, 4-6 lbs a week was EASY. 3/4 lb a day is reasonable at that weight, for a very short time. After that I hit a little flat spot for about a week, then boom one morning I weighed 5 lbs lighter. From there I continued at a 2-3 lbs a week pace for a…

Well generally speaking, you can't eat all of your calories back. You have to figure out how many 'extra' calories you earned. Example below is as if I burned 665 in 138 minutes: First: A quick scan of HRM margin of error in the google seems to indicate that you can pretty much count on the HRM having about a 10% margin of…

everyone does. 8-ball. 1/8 oz aka 3.5 g.

Every time I come up with a million dollar idea, I find out I'm late to the party. :/ Last one I had was Garanimals for adults (I'm red-green colorblind) .. They exist. This is both great and terrible news for me.

I get why it is convenient .. I just never understood all the hullabaloo about it being required. Math is easy.

More accurate than what? My scale goes to 2 decimal places with ounces (yeah it does grams too) .. but 3.27 ounces is no less accurate than 92.4 grams. (in fact its a touch more accurate) The key to accuracy is digital and not analog. With an analog scale, you have to interpolate. ETA: Awesome scale by the way. Classic…

"There exists in society a very special class of persons that I have always referred to as the Believers. These are folks who have chosen to accept a certain religion, philosophy, theory, idea or notion and cling to that belief regardless of any evidence that might, for anyone else, bring it into doubt. They are the ones…

OK .. I don't get it .. Whenever a discussion of scales comes up in the forums, it seems that someone is very concerned about the scale measuring in grams. I see comments like freedom's above, and urgings to make sure it measures in grams!! Why?

Could be because ... http://theconversation.com/no-youre-not-entitled-to-your-opinion-9978 The debate is the ONLY part of this that matters. the opinions are irrelevant.

Pets .. hell I'd eat the dog first. No use wasting all that dog food on the dog only to eat him later anyway.

I think you get hungry enough that you'd do it whether you wanted to or not. You body won't let your brain get away with being that squeamish.
