If you are looking to build muscle, you will need to be in a surplus. The gaining weight section has a helpful sticky from @MrM27 . There are no magic macro ratios to build muscle. protein .6g-8g/lbs, fat .3-.4g/lbs - fill in the rest with carbs.

Depends on how you calculate yor caloric needs. If you are using the TDEE method, you don't eat exercise calories back, as they are already estimated in your total caloric expenditure.

Right over your head...

Reading comprehension and context seems lacking. The OP posted this in a weight loss thread. My initial comment was about intuitive eating and weight loss. You are arguing maintenance of weight. Again, your statement does nothing but invalidate your argument that my guess is "misguided".
-
No, my guess isn't misguided. "Intuitive" eating is the latest buzzword, nothing more. Hunger signals are a poor cue to determine whether you need to eat, or stop eating for the matter. Dependent on weight, leptin and ghrelin hormones will be out of whack, and provide even worse hunger cues. And your bolded statement…
-
ummm, no...
-
My guess is "intuitive" eating is what got most people here in the first place...

Start tracking accurately first.

Ketogenic diet isn't a magical weight loss program. All diets come down to calories in vs out. How consistently are you logging your foods? Opening your diary would help...

Nothing but a joke. Change in lighting, stance, flexed vs not. Being leaner and being able to see more muscle definition doesn't mean you gained muscle. You're going by looks. Dexa-scan and prove you added the muscle you say you did in that time frame.
-
Yeah, I read that too. Even if there wasn't an underlying concern of exogenous drug use, these are trained, elite athletes that were monitored daily.
-
How do you define huge at 5%? IFBB pros? Or natural competitors?
-
Lol... I didn't say ALWAYS. Never used the term. Also, I stated surplus and deficit calories, not maintenance. And again, has anyone proven the theory of a recomp over the long term?
-
Recomp in what sense and for whom? Overweight, untrained individuals can gain muscle and lose fat in a deficit - newbie gains, but this is very short lived. Recomp for trained individuals needs to be extremely meticulous, and long term, for significant gains. I've recomped myself, but I know I haven't only lost fat. Lost…

Genetics play the biggest factor in muscle to fat gain, or muscle loss to fat loss (p-ratio). Other factors like bf%, training and diet, exogenous drugs will affect p-ratio, but you cannot only gain muscle in a surplus. Some will argue that if a surplus is at a minimum (oxymoron?), you can effectively limit fat gain while…
-
So true. I've started lifting at 11:30 instead of 11:20 and haven't had any gains for months...
-
The human body isn't efficient enough to partition calories to muscle only. Surplus calories will lead to weight gain, both fat and muscle, if you are lifting progressively. A deficit in calories will lead to both muscle and fat loss. Heavy lifting and adequate protein intake will spare some muscle loss, but it's…

I know you said you corrected yourself, but I still don't understand what you are stating?

Except for last night... ;)

I can't go to bed without ice cream. There is no good or bad food. Make it fit. Have fun

cold - cerakoala

A little to early to be poppin Molly's, no? ;)
-
Huh? 1.5g of protein/lbs? Why? As @ndj1979 stated, you cannot partition your weight to only build muscle and not store fat. Depending on your body and genetics, the part of your body that is the hardest to lose weight will also generally be the first place you start to see weight gain.
-
Me thinks there is an underlying issue here that has been discussed before?
-
What is the amount of the deficit from not eating back your exercise calories? As stated above, glycogen depletion and reduced food weight is more than likely the main reason, along with the time you weigh yourself. But if you had a significant deficit over the week, it could be some fat loss as well, since our bodies are…

^This. Food is food.

Reading comprehension? Did anyone pass judgement or say he doesn't work hard?
-
YES! I'm not judging him, though I still think the Rock and Jackman are awesome. But do you honestly believe they aren't taking exongenous drugs??? 6'4, 260lbs of muscle is WELL beyond the established limits of a natural. If you really think just eating right and working out more is what it takes, then I have a unicorn to…
-
I see what you did there...
-
You're joking, right? Look at pictures when he wrestled and now. No one is saying he doesn't work hard.. he busts his *kitten*. But 6'4, 260, all muscle... come on now.
