  • Day 1 - Not as great as I hoped. I was able to get a small walk around my basement. To cold to walk outside, plus my daughter is in walking casts and I was busy entertaining her.
  • Hi, I'm Christa too and just started again on MFP in January. Feel free to add me. I'm finding that I'm having much better luck this go around, and I really think that I just had to really want it bad enough to put in the effort required. I was trying to do it before without changing how I was eating and that does not…
  • It really does matter on what you plan to get from it. I have a FitBit One and decided on it, after tons of research, for several reasons. I wanted something to track my steps, distance, and stairs. I also liked the idea of it tracking my sleep (I have a sleep disorder and I wanted a log of my sleep patterns), and I liked…
  • I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor for any intense pain! There could be so many different reasons for it and they would be so much better equipped to help figure out the cause. I have joint pain and cracking/popping, but I was also diagnosed years ago with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The type I have is relatively…
  • I'm using my FitBit One to track.
  • I started walking laps in my basement a few weeks ago and have now graduated to walking at a park about 3 minutes from my house. The weather keeps putting a wrench into my walking plans because we keep getting snow and temps below 25 degrees (which is about as cold as I can stand it). I have to admit that I am quite proud…
  • Hi, I'm Christa from Conowingo, MD. This is my first attempt at a walking challenge and the first group I have joined on here!
  • I quit cold turkey as a New Year's Resolution in 2011. It started as a competition between my Mom, sister, and I. I ended up being the only one that was successful (at that time, my sister quit at a later date). Honestly, the hardest cig to give up was the one after a meal. I started preparing myself for a few weeks before…
  • Ok, I'm in! I haven't tried one of these groups but it looks like fun! SW: 206 CW: 163.4 GW: 158 Weigh in Dates: 3/01: 163.4 3/08: 3/15: 3/22: 3/29: End of Month (or whatever weigh in days you use) Total weight lost: Reward: A new bathing suit! I have one left that fits, but probably won't if I lose 5 more lbs.…
  • Woohoo!
  • I also didn't start losing in January, but just recommitted to logging my food. The last few times I tried to food logging thing, I wasn't really "all in" and would get discouraged because I was constantly going over. I finally realized that I needed to be serious about making changes before this was going to work.…
  • I quit smoking several years ago, but I wasn't trying to lose weight at the same time. Good for you! I think the best thing is to figure out what you are overeating on. A lot of people can break the actual addiction to cigs pretty easily, but then they don't know how to deal with the oral part of it which leads to eating…
  • I've had both before (juicer and Nutri Bullet). The juicer was a pain to clean and I hated the idea of all the waste. I received the NutriBullet as a Christmas gift and LOVE it! I use it for more than just making my smoothies/shakes/Nutriblasts, which makes it feel like a multi-purpose kitchen gadget.
  • I agree with everyone else. 1200 calories will work, but is hard to stick to. I have found more success with a higher amount. I also think it's okay to have some sweets, I just make them fit into my calories for the day. Definitely read the "Sexypants" thread. That was a real eye-opener for me.
  • I have had times where the scale doesn't move, or even sometimes goes up, but I have lost inches and my clothes have gotten looser. That is still progress! You say that you are working out and using a personal trainer. That's great! Unfortunately, while exercise helps, a calorie deficit is what you need to lose weight. You…
  • I don't think being poor = being overweight. I do know a lot of people who complain about not being able to buy "good" and "healthy" food, but seem to be able to afford lots of other things (cable TV with all the channels, iPhones for whole family with data plans, gas-guzzling vehicles, plenty of "toys", going shopping for…
  • I average at least 1 banana a day and am losing weight just fine, and it has not affected my ability to lose belly fat.
  • Mom of 2, ages 7 and 16. Youngest has special needs (autism) and keeps me super busy.
  • <3 this post! I have struggled with body image for as long as I can remember. Sometimes the most innocent comments can have the biggest impact. As a child, it was adults making comments about my sister and friend being so thin and being able to wear the "cute clothes". I wasn't overweight, I just carried my weight…
  • There are still cheaper alternatives to the store bought stuff. During the cooler months, or when fresh tomatoes are expensive, you can buy them canned. I can get a 28 oz can of tomatoes (diced, crushed, pureed, and sauce) for $0.69-0.89 on sale. They go on sale like that at least 4 times from November to February. I buy…
  • It depends, but for me, it hasn't increased my grocery bill. I'm pretty good about bargain shopping and keeping my bill low, and it has been a goal for me to do this without "breaking the bank". I do watch for pesticides, hormones, etc. in my foods, although I'm not an extreme nazi about it. When I was buying more "junk"…
  • Hi, I have the Fitbit One and love it! I love that I can set goal on it to keep me motivated. I have doubled the amount of steps I do in a day in 2 weeks!
  • Definitely read the "Sexypants" thread. A lot of great info there! 2 weeks isn't a lot of time, so I would keep logging and see what happens in another couple of weeks. Make sure you are logging every little thing (like others have said). A food scale seriously helps for making sure you are being accurate. I know it seems…
  • I love my Nutribullet and have had it since just before Christmas! I agree with adding protein powder or peanut butter, if you are using as a meal replacement, to help you feel full a little longer. I started using mine to get me used to eating breakfast, since I hadn't been for so long. There has only been one recipe that…
  • Anyone can add me as well! I am on daily, several times a day, and I really am trying to be better about commenting on people's "walls". I've been a member for awhile, but just got really serious about it and started logging again in January.
  • Awesome! You can add me as a friend. I don't have a real goal weight either, just more of a look I am going for. I figure I will know I'm there when I get there!
  • Generally, I would advise not to completely avoid anything that you might want to consume after you achieve your goal. I believe most things in moderation are fine. However, I do have several things that I've decided to avoid (as much as possible) because it makes me feel better. I avoid MSG (migraines), artificial…
  • I would try using your TDEE as your base number and create a deficit from that. To lose weight, it's not so much about what foods you are eating as much as being in a calorie deficit. If you are not already doing so, weigh (using a food scale) and measure your foods. You may be consuming more calories than you think. Also,…
  • I initially thought it was to much too, until I read what you cut out. A good bit of that was probably water weight from all the high sodium foods you were consuming. I think if you continue to limit those foods, and it's not causing crazy cravings, then you probably can maintain that. I think when people refer to…
