  • Wow! That sounds AMAZING! A group of us will be going to Big Sur in August - staying at Tree Bones - have you heard of it? Anyways, I will definitely put this hike on our "to-do" list since I LOVE hiking too! I want to do the TRT as well - did you do it in sections, or all at one time? With a group, or just you and hubby?…

  • I was thinking about picking up cycling (have far-far-far off dreams of one day attempting a Triathlon...crazy). Anyways, I just have a standard, no-frills Schwinn mountain bike (at least in my novice opinon it looks like a mountain bike, lol!) My question - do you need to have a top-of-the-line, bells-and-whistles gizmo…

  • I'm there!!! *grabs keys and purse*
  • Ok, Old Navy does have a section of "professional but fun" clothes - and I LOVE the fact that their dress clothes are NOT dry-clean-only - which you will find is mostly the case with the $$ clothes. I also love the fact that their sizes are pretty accurate (or generous, lol). I would, however, invest in a couple of…
  • My oldest had her tonsils out as well - they were HUGE and she snored horribly at night - sounded like an 80-year old overweight man! She was always tired, no matter how long she slept! Anyways, surgery was fine - no biggie. However, the incision site will be raw and tender for at least a week (doctor said only soft foods…
  • I am NOT looking forward to the teen years :frown: I have two girls (9 and 7) and one son (3) - in a few years, it's going to be chaos in my house
  • Those are the moments that make it all worth it!! My oldest girl is an "artist" and one day she gave me a simple brown paper heart with this written on it: Dear Mama, This is what we have (you and me) a brown heart. A brown heart is the best, rather nice and really sweet. Was really special, now better than ever. Love,…
  • I'm an obessive reader - I always have at least 5 books checked out from my library and read about 2-3 books a week. A couple of the recent books I've read that really touched me are: The Road - Cormac McCarthy (this is a dark book - it was hard to read some sections due to the graphic nature of this book, but amazing…
  • I have several websites blocked at work - but if you go to: www.notrack.org and type in the web address in the box in the middle of the screen - you can bypass the red tape. Using this "deflector" website, I can search craigslist, MFP, and all the blocked websites from my work computer. Thank goodness for "backdoor"…
  • Yes - 800 cals per slice is right. Terrible isn't it?? I learned the hard way too - I just gotta avoid pizza because I love cheese and bread - just too hard to eat just one slice, lol!!
  • It depends on where you live. Here in CA, any debt you have before married is yours alone. Any debt either of you accumulated durning the marriage (regardless of whose name is on the bill) is "community property" and both are responsible for. However if he acted in malice (intentionally charged up stuff on the CC, etc.)…
  • Wow - I had no clue about the dryer-lint-thingie! I'm gonna try that as soon as I get home from work!! Good info - thanks for posting!
  • Do you fold all the fillings inside the one egg, or mix it all up? I usually use two egg whites, and fold in half with sun dried tomatoes inside. That is a lot of filling for just one egg - how do ya do it?
  • I love these too! I don't peel them tho - the skin gets crispy (yum!), and has fiber/vitamins. These are popular with the kiddos as well.
  • What do you eat to go over in protein? I logged in all my food for today, and have only 36 grams (I'm supposed to have 64 grams for the day). I usually only get in 30ish grams of protein per day - trying to figure out how to up that without increasing calories or fat. Protein shakes? Ugh.
  • I bought a cheapo pedometer (has timer feature, in addition to counting steps, etc.) from Rite Aid (similiar to CSV) for under $20. Works great! It also can tell the difference between areobic and "normal" activity.
  • Ok, so I've been counting calories, watching my sodium, fat etc. but never really paid attention to cholesterol. When I turned 30 (the big 3-0, lol) last year, I decided to ask my doc for a lipid panel, since I have never had that done before. He looked at me funny - as if I asked a stupid question - but went ahead and…
  • Are you sure you are not experiencing side stitches? When I first started running, I also felt sharp pains in my low abs and sides - but staying hydrated (meaning drinking beforehand - I don't like to drink too much while running - I get queasy) and doing side stretches helps. Start easy and work your way up - then you'll…
  • I looked it up too, and seems like it is 200 calories (too good to be true??) LOL. Anyways, provided the cookie you ate was 1.6 oz (that's what the web calorie counter said equaled 1 serving), then you're in the clear! *Makes mental note to visit chick-a-fil-a soon...*
  • Some of the Nalgene bottles have BPA, and some don't - here's a comparison chart so you can look to see what kind you have. http://www.nalgenechoice.com/compare.html Again, I would not throw out all Nalgene bottles (or other plastic stuff) - the risk has not been identified as significant. There are already "trace" amounts…
  • All of the ideas posted above are great, however, if you just can't say no to the burger and fries - get the kid's meal. It's cheaper too, lol. Wendy's has fabulous kids meal - simple sandwich with ham or turkey, and you can subsitute the fries for yougurt (get some calcium in there!) or fruit.
  • I just read an article about this in the paper yesterday: http://www.sacbee.com/830/v-print/story/864576.html I've read some stuff about this, and yes - each time you reuse, microwave or do whatever with plastic stuff (this includes baby bottles, plastic liners, zip-lock bags, etc.) we are exposed to trace amounts of…
  • Are you exercising, raising your heart-rate for a good 30 minutes everyday? I find that if I eat healthy (drink water, etc) and don't do vigorous cardio at least once a day, I'm freezing too. But, provided I give my metabolism a "jolt" once a day, it's not too bad. (I HATE the cold - even in Sunny California, I pull out…

  • This is an interesting question because I am a swimmer (most of my time is either in or near water, lol). I swim 4 days a week - logging between 2,500-4,000 yards a day (one length of the pool is 25 yards), and would say I burn 500 calories per hour, and I weigh 140 lbs at 5'4". I don't log the time I "play" in the water,…
  • Whole Wheat Pitas (replaced 90% of the bread in my diet) Sweet Potatoes (replaced white potatoes) French Feta Cheese (this has a strong flavor, so less is needed - replaced cheddar) Amy's Organic Frozen Food (replaced all the frozen foods I used to take to work) I've added: all kinds of beans (I used to avoid beans),…
  • Have you had their "skinny" pretzels?? They are kinda like pretzel chips - delish with hummus, and calories won't break the bank.

  • Right, no eggs, no animal fat (butter, etc.) So, in the sense of trans-fat, it's healthier than "regular" CC cookies, BUT it's still loaded with calories, so don't jump into a whole bag of 'em. I can't have these in my house - too hard to stop eatting them! I LOVE Trader Joe's dark chocolate covered ginger bits - that is…

  • I've been on the "healthy meal plan" (it's not a diet, winks) for almost two years. Started off counting every calorie that passed my lips, logging exercise, etc. However, over time and with a routine, I found I didn't need to log so much anymore, however I do tend to weigh myself twice a day - once in the morning, and…

  • Why don't you skip the soda all together, and if you're craving something "soda-y" - make a healthy Italian soda using soda water and 100% fruit juice. You can get creative - use cranberry juice with twist of lime, etc. Even the kids like this one, and it's fun to play around with the flavors.
  • Too funny!! My MIL calls it a "lassie" (she is foreign born so I had to explain our confusuion when she was refering to my daughter's nether parts!)
