I don't think it's gross - you can wash them in hot water and bleach. At my son's daycare center, if a child wets themselves, and does not have extra clothes - they will put the "surplus" clothes on the child - including underwear. The parent will wash and bring the "surplus" clothes back the next day and so the cycle…

On the Polar, the electrodes are the fabric areas to the side of the thicker plastic part. I just get the whole thing wet and shake it. My HRM is water resistant to 50 meters (I use it when swimming), so no worries. Yours should be similar, I would think.
-
Like Banks, I also have a Polar, but one of the things Polar says to do before you put the chest strap on is to wet the electrodes (for better conduction). So I just run the strap under the tap quickly, shake and put it on. Have not had any issues with picking up HR, etc. Maybe try wetting the strap???

I would go with your HRM - it is such a valuable tool, so now you know how many calories you really burned, and how many you should eat. Try following what your HRM says and see what happens...
-
Ditto on the swimming - I burn between 550 and 600 calories (according to my polar HRM) in an hour. That's more than I burn on the treadmill - wowzers! (And I can't figure out why running feels so much harder than swimming, but burns less calories....*scratching head*)

Same experience here - I went from a 36 DD to a 34 D, and now I am a 32 DD - so it seems like my chest and boobs are not on the same page, lol. I would not mind going down to a 32 D - it is SO hard to find bras in 32 DD (VS does NOT sell anything in the double digets with a 32 chest size *blowing raspberry* so I order my…

I feel your pain! My two girls will start school next week, and we went school shopping at WalMart with the "optional" (meaning mandatory unless you want evil eyes from the teachers for the rest of the year) supply list...cost over $300. We still had to buy clothes, shoes, etc. I'm frickin' BROKE!!!!
-
That is FABULOUS! Wow - I'm impressed (I HATED calculus). WTG!! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
-
Wow - love the pics! You know - EVERY time I go hiking something always goes "wrong" - either we get lost, kids throw up, weather turns bad - but I love it (keeps things interesting, lol.) I'm pretty clueless when it comes to geography - but are you anywhere near the Appalachian Trail? I think it is the equivalent to our…

Oh wow! I'm not much of a "product" splurger - I'll shell out $2 for the V06 99 cent shampoo and conditioner any day!  I don't think I own a hairdryer...or a curling iron...takes too much time! Anyways, my fav "bath" thing is Trader Joe's Citrus Sugar Scrub - smells deeeevine (I would eat it if I could!) I…

It doesn't sound like you had enough carbs - remember carbs are the body's main source of energy (once it is converted into glucose, ofc). If I go super low on carbs, I basically go into a coma - NO energy! (I lasted 2 hours on Atkins - seriously!) Before I work out, I eat 1/2 a Clif Bar - it is high in both…

And our daughters are seeing them, and thinking that is how they should look...:frown:

I've found that simply losing weight, getting smaller doesn't do anything for me. Sure, the compliments are nice, and I love feeling better, overall - but that's not what drives me. I have to have specific goals - like swimming Alcatraz Shark Fest next summer, or climbing Half Dome - even (eventually) completing a…

My thoughts exactly!  I don't even eat that much on exercise days. Also the protein total is pretty high. Thrust - are you trying to increase muscle mass?
-
I LOVE Thai Iced Tea - thanks! BTW - can you just use non-fat milk? I don't like splenda (so I think I could use agave nectar). Gotta try this out!! What is the "real" stuff they use in the restaurants, etc.?
-
From both ends too!!!  :embarassed:

Yes, blueberries and raspberries are WONDER "cleansers" - lol, and all-natural to boot! Keep in mind some fruit - like bananas - are constipating. So, a variety is important. Lots of greens (salad), flax seed, and corn (things that your body can't digest) are good for "moving" stuff out. White bread, most processed stuff…

You should have a Sierra Club nearby if you are close to the Sequoias, also there are a ton of hiking "meet up" groups (google "Meet Up" and search for hiking in your area.) I hear ya on the weather! I stick with the higher altitudes (cooler) or short hikes to the rivers during the summer. I'm also not wild about hiking…

I think a normal resting HR is around 70 - the more fit you are, the lower your HR. Yes, you burn fewer calories as you get "fitter" because your body becomes more efficient - this is why super athletes are able to do the distances and speeds that they do - their bodies have adapted and are able to expend fewer calories…

Hikers where are ya???? On Saturday I took the kiddos up to Loch Levens Lake (again in the Tahoe/Truckee area.) This time I had my 3 yo DS with me (DH was gone hunting with his buds), along with my 9 and 7 yo DD. The hike was about 6 miles total (3 miles up, and 3 miles down). My 3-yo complained a lot, but I figured how to…

The week before TOM, I crave meat (protein/iron) - a nice, medium/rare steak is exactly what is for dinner! We rarely eat red meat - so hubby knows what is coming when I ask him to stop by Outback's for "Victoria's Filet"  Related to nutrition deficiencies - I normally get VERY tender in the ...umm... "chest…

Medela sells special bags that you can use to store breast milk. I just used zip-lock sandwich bags (marked date on it with a sharpie). When you thaw it - either put the frozen milk in the fridge the night before, or (if using right away) put it in a bowl of warm water. Never microwave breast milk (it kills off the good…

our5cooks - good point about contacting the lactation nurse! I forgot about that - I did see one for some struggles early on with DD #1 - the nurse was sooooo helpful and nice.

The best time to exercise is whatever time works best for you! Seriously, there are a ton of theories about morning, night, etc. The point is - the time doesn't matter as much as actually DOING it. Studies have shown that people are more likely to continue an exercise program if they do it first thing in the morning -…

Hi There! I've either been in school or work full time with each of my three babies, and have pumped each time. I bought the professional medela breastpump - not cheap, but worth it! What I did was I pumped three times a day - in the morning (either just before going to work, after last nursing session, or right when I get…

OMG!! I used to worship Stephen King (the old classics - not the new crap he is wringing out - IMHO)...I remember "Thinner" - just goes to show that too much of a good thing is, well, NOT a good thing

3. rotating your shoulder in and out (internal & external rotation). - this is def the motion that makes my shoulders feel tender. It's not a horrible I-can't-stand-it-pain, but kind of like twinges. For the mid trap exercise - is that facing the door? So like a rowing motion? (Pictures/link please!) I know, I know...I'm…

:blushing: Awww...thanks!

I have a question for you - wondering if you have any experience with rehabbing swimmers? I swim about 3,000 yards 5 times a week, and my shoulders get pretty sore from all the repetitive motion. Are there any kind of arm exercises I can do to strengthen my arms/back muscles without putting strain on my shoulders? I can't…

I used to be like that - I liked a little bit of coffee with my sweetener and cream!  I started drinking black coffee with 1/2 cup skim milk, and sprinkle of cinnamon last year (I don't do splenda or artifical sweeteners anymore), and now I can't drink anything else - the sweet stuff is WAY too sweet (even…
