Interesting! I read another study that said people who exercise in the AM are more likely to stick with it and maintain weight loss (I guess "getting it over with" first thing in the day kind of thing?) than those who exercised at night. I used to exercise LATE at night (former night owl), but after having 3 kids, I'm OUT…

Listen to your inner voice of logic - you are right - there is no way you gained 22 pounds of fat in a weekend. Water - maybe (esp if you ate salty foods, etc.) But water weight comes and goes quickly. What I found works for me is not to focus on how long it will take me to lose weight - but just focus on this day, or this…

My favorite low-cal "dinner" is an egg-white omelette (I like to use real eggs - not egg beaters.) Two egg whites, one stick of string cheese (peeled into strings), a couple slices of tomatoes, and dab of olive oil - comes out to about 110 calories. I like to add a small salad and half a whole-wheat pita. Easily under 300…

Swam for an hour. Will walk around the parking lot before lunch. Pretty standard daily routine. The kids have swim lessons in the PM - and I sweat BUCKETS sitting in the heat (even in the shade it's at least 100). That's gotta count for some calories, but I can't find "sweating my *kitten* off" in the exercise database…

I also use this trick as well!! Even my kids know that they can only eat half of whatever is on their plate when we go out to eat - we ask for a bunch of boxes up front (some times we get weird looks - oh well!)

I read the blog, and a couple other blogs from that author (I think her name is Elizabeth). She brings up a valid point - yes, using BMI alone as a measurement of "healthy" weight may not be accurate. When I use the BMI tool on this site - there is a disclaimer that says it does not accurately predict weight ranges for…

My 2nd daughter was allergic to all forms of cow milk - she was colicky as a baby, threw up often, rash on her face, etc. We switched to almond milk, soy butter and all that stuff when she was a year old. Then gradually started adding dairy back in her diet when she was a toddler. Now she is 7, and eats anything - no…

Going to bed is the BEST thing  That's my answer to night-time snacking too!

Like Shore Rider, I have a digital scale that reads 2/10th's change in weight - which is great for me since I'm in the last stage (have 5-10 lbs to go) - so the teeny tiny drops help me see that I am going in the right (or wrong) direction. I bought a mid-line scale from Target - think it cost about $40. It has a body fat…

I almost spit my coffee out when I read your comment!  Yeah, California loves them organic, healthy foods. Still gotta read between the lines b/c not everything packaged as "natural" or "healthy" is the real deal. I mostly stick with Trader Joe's - reasonable price and excellent wine selection

YES - we are suffering here in Northern California with triple digit heat (yesterday was 103) plus all the smoke (which prevents it from cooling off at night) - no respite! This is one of the worst summers ever. Our only saving grace is the pool which we sit in at night... So, I swim at the crack of dawn because it hits 90…

$1.50 for Amy's meals???? OMG - that is a steal! i shell out about $3.50-ish a pop for those babies. Where are you shopping? Any chance, happen to be in Northern Cali??

I agree with Sherry. Math is not my strongest point, but I've made a habit of "balancing my checkbook" via online banking every few days. If I don't know how much I have in the bank - it is as easy as sending a text message or logging online to check. Now it is a habit - hardly takes any time. I used to OD (that is…

Same here! I will get a "stiff neck" when I've slept wrong. Most of the time - one night flat on my back with no pillow is enough to rectify it. I am SCARED to go to the chiro - too many people tell me they have to keep going once they start - no thanks! I did find a body pillow (shaped like a "C") when I was preggers with…

Sacramentan Here! Smoke has been terrible this week - finally saw some blue sky yesterday. My kids' swim lessons were cancelled M&T - and it was hard for me to swim (luckily I swim early AM before the smoke settles). Today is weird - kind of grey and overcast and chilly - but the sun is still red from the smoke.

Welcome Jeff !! :drinker:

This is so funny - same here! AND I can predict how much less I will be in the morning depending on how long I sleep, and how late I eat dinner. If I get 6-7 hours of sleep, I will lose 1-1.5 lbs per night. If 8-9 (rare), then 2 lbs comes off! When I tell people this, they look at me funny...I have no idea why!…

I read the same thing - remember the Aktins craze? I tried to swear off all carbs - lasted about 3 hours  Anyways, I am a carb girl all the way. I've learned if I don't have at least 50% of calories from carbs, I feel like crap. That's just me. But anyways, as far as losing weight - it goes back to calories in and…

Me too! (you're not the only one with OCD - JK  )

Elephants...not real ones, ofc - but ceramic ones. My mom started collecting them for me when I was little (no idea why elephants - she is not even sure why - something about strength, loyalty, etc. But I've not totally bought into that  ) Anyways, so people see all the elephants that my mom bought me and think I…

And the hair on the sink from shaving! I HATE that - I mean how difficult is it to rinse the sink out after using it????? I met a lady a few years back that lived in a commune-like thing, and she and her long-time boyfriend lived in seperate houses right across from eachother - said it was the BEST thing ever. Each had…

Swimming is awesome! I swim 4-5 days a week from 5:30-6:30 - which means I get up at 4:30 (plus a couple of snooze sessions, lol). What worked for me is: 1. If I don't go in the morning, I don't go at all. In the PM - all my time is swallowed by the kids, dinner, lessons, etc, etc. 2. I have three kiddos - if I leave the…

When I use the treadmill - I alternate between 4-12 incline, and in one hour I will burn about 400-500 calories (at 3.5 mph). I weigh 138 and am 30 years old - so your numbers could be reasonable. Does your treadmill ask you to input your weight? Anyways, I always tend to log in fewer calories than what the machines tell…

O- member here as well! I get calls AND e-mails - thus donate pretty regularly every 8 weeks. I do feel tired for a few days afterwards (hard to put all my effort into my workout - I still workout even though they say not to do anything strenous for 72 hours - just tone it down a notch.) On the plus side - at least I…

I just checked this out (website) and the race is full with over a thousand riders - bummer! Sounds like fun - let us know how it goes!! Molly

I peel them, and cut them up into small, bite-sized pieces and freeze! The kids love these too. Also - if you buy frozen blueberries, they are great to chew on as well! I just fill a small bowl of frozen bleuberries and munch away for a low-cal, high fiber dessert!

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed Treebones! The price was a bit steep (we also are not staying in the Yurts - will pitch a tent), but how could I resist homemade waffles???? I also like the fact that they have a pool/spa so we can (hopefully) enjoy the sunset from the warmth (safety) of the hot tub!

[/quote] We so want to do the Yosemite, it is in our to do list  Yes we do the TRT in sections. Two of my favorites were the Tahoe Meadows and the Spooner Summit....very pretty! You definitly have to go look at my pictures of our yesterday hikes. It will make you want to go TODAY hahahh!! There was a list and map…
