personally, I'd say to ditch the cardio entirely for now unless you are preparing for an athletic event. If fat loss is your goal, focus on your muscle building efforts and forget the hamster wheeling.

Start with the empty olympic bar (45 lbs) and do 5 sets of 4-6 reps. Once you can do 5 reps 5 times, add 5 lbs the next time. Concentrate on form profit

lucky for you, sit ups will never give you abs. Reduce bodyfat and concentrate on isometric core work, like planks, squats, and deadlifts. The big difference is generally one of satiety. Fats and proteins are generally more filling than carbs, and keep one fuller for longer. So if you are trying to operate on a deficit, sticking to mostly proteins and fats will usually help keep your hunger under control better.
