  • Sounds like you're on the right track. I hope you have an awesome summer!!!! Its hard to go from the "party-hardy" to the "party-healthy" routine, but you have a plan and you already know you're gonna have some partytime in there, so enjoy it!!! I wish I was kicking back on the boat with ya!!!
  • I totally agree! I lost 40 lbs last year and hope to lose the other 40 this year, but its looking like it may be more like 30. I lost approx .77 lbs / week last year without exercising. I'm not against exercise and I believe you may be able to lose more quickly if you do exercise, I've just had physical problems that make…
  • well.....I don't keep any of those "no-no" foods in my house so they're not in my regular food rotation anyway. I've chosen to lose weight by changing my lifestyle to incorporate healthy foods. My reasoning is this: if I am limiting the number of calories I consume in a day shouldn't those few calories be as dense in…
  • Wild Rice may work for you. My personal favorite is Millet!!! Its really really good for you (here's a link describing its health benefits: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=53). I buy it at my local natural foods coop, I'm guessing whole foods or trader joe's may have it as well. I cook 1 cup of…
  • Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed it!
  • Sounds like the one I have. There's a Yoga Nidra meditation on this one too which seemed weird to me at first, now I think its awesome. The middle meditation set to the sound of ocean waves is my favorite. learning to be mindful about how I eat has been so important to this process for me. I was excited when I saw you…
  • You're so very welcome. Don't beat yourself up! Congratulate yourself when you make good decisions. Your body may not respond as quickly as you'd like, but feeding it well and treating yourself well can only have good results in the long run. good luck and happy eating!
  • My current favorite is Splendor of Meditation for Weight Loss....its all about the "mindfulness of eating" I found it on Amazon. I listen at least 4 to 5 nights aweek. I almost always fall asleep but figure the messages are getting thru to my subconscious anyway. The whole "mindful" approach really resonates with me and…
  • I look at the weight loss effort as a 3 legged stool: 1 part activity, 1 part diet and nutrition and 1 part head game. You need all 3 to be successful. I think the head game is often taken for granted or over looked. Its hard to reprogram past behaviors and ways of thinking; changing those little voices in your…
  • I disagree, you can get very wholesome whole grain bread or make your own. Not all grains are evil. I eat almost exclusively French Meadow Bakery 100% organic sour dough rye bread. Ingredients: Organic Rye Flour, Spring Water, Sourdough Culture (organic Rye Flour, Spring Water), Salt. The trouble is most people don't read…
  • I researched sweeteners a wee bit and decided to try raw coconut crystals. I put a tablespoon on my oatmeal in the morning and 1 in my homemade salad dressings. It is about 1/2 the calories of raw honey, is minimally processed and also has a low glycemic index of 35. It isn't crumble your teeth sweet but it adds enough…
  • Thank you for posting this! I was a teenager in the 70's and this had an impact on me then and still does. Almost every day some snippet of this flows thru my mind. It is a beautifull world!!! be happy y'all!
  • all great responses! I agree with the sentiment that how I eat now is how I need to continue even when I've reached my goal and I'm on a maintenance calorie level I will continue to record what I eat, continue to eat healthy and continue to monitor my weight. So, I don't at this time regard what I'm doing as temporary or…
  • @ DaFrog: OMG, I love your pic: "don't forget you are what you eat" response: "I need to eat a skinny person" ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Hi Kristin, I took a quick peak at your diary. I would first of all encourage you to track sodium....if you have to give up a tracked item to fit it in give up sugar (unless you're a diabetic). Sodium can really represent an issue in the weight-loss game. MFP sets your "goal" at 2,500mg, but really that is too high and…
  • It is hard and it can be discouraging. I had to really find substantial reasons to fight through the plateaus and stall-outs. I listen to deep relaxation, self-hypnosis weight-loss CD's at night. They really provide me with so many positive reinforcements that I think they got me through the times of discouragement. Its…
  • I also call it eating with real food.....buy your own veggies and proteins and make your own food, don't rely on a can or box or jar or frozen version of a meal. Also, kick out refined flours, stick to whole grains as much as possible (no white pasta, no white rice, no white bread...instead I eat quinoa pasta, millet…
  • I'm able to buy it at my local natural foods coop or at a Whole Foods type store. I'm fortunate to live in an area with lots of health food shopping options.
  • quinoa also comes as pasta which is great. you can cook the quinoa in chicken stock to add more flavor to it (I use a low sodium chicken broth) or you can toss a handful into your soup and cook it in your soup juices. lately I've been using millet instead of rice. millet has tons of healthy attributes (just google it) and…
  • I'm glad someone mentioned the quinoa pasta option. It performs perfectly as pasta in your normal pasta dishes, has great taste and is very good for you! Also, I've been using millet instead of rice with great results lately. Delicious too!! good luck and happy eating
  • OP, you are so right! So many people don't want to put in the hard work and time to lose weight gradually and permanently. It took me a year to lose 40 lbs and hopefully I'll lose the other 40 to hit my healthy range this year. When people ask how I do it I tell them I practice mindful eating as opposed to mindless eating.…
  • hey Steve, it seems like you're in it for the right reasons.....for YOU and for your HEALTH! you don't need to justify it to anyone else (nor do they need to defend their choices to you....ahem). learning about diet and nutrition and how your body uses what you feed it is a fascinating journey. I'm sure you have plenty of…
  • Hi, I took a look at your food diary. Congratulations on eating very healthy! I look at the diaries of most everyone asking for opinions and you're one of the first I've seen who really is eating good, healthy food. that being said, I'd encourage you to track your sodium. Even while eating healthy you could be hitting a…
  • Hi Paige, Just a couple comments for you, I know its overwhelming especially at the beginning. First of all, don't be impatient, settle in for the long haul, you didn't gain 150 lbs in 3 months, you won't lose it that quickly either. You may want to focus on how to eat healthier while you're counting calories. Sometimes…
  • Hi Marie, I took a peak at your food diary. I just looked at this week. It looks like you're NOT eating back your exercise calories. Each day shows that you have lots of calories left to be eaten to get back to your NET goal. Look at it this way: MFP's goal of 1200 cals/day for you already INCLUDES a built-in weight-loss…
  • GREAT IDEA!!!!!! It really helps you to treat your food with the respect it deserves. Why eat junk and suffer buyers remorse when you can eat healthy and nutritious foods that support your great health and goals???? thanks for sharing!
  • Hi Bek, Just a couple questions and comments for you. First of all, don't get impatient with the plateaus. You didn't put all the weight on in 3 months, it won't all come off in 3 months either. It may not even be steady, you may have ups and downs. I keep a spreadsheet and focus on averages more than I do individual days.…
  • all great ideas, thanks for sharing!!!
  • MFP has a GREAT recipe tool in the food area, click on the recipe tab then enter how many people it serves and what ingredients you put into it. It will give you the nutritional data on your creation and save it for you too!
