  • Not that I have found... I have one of those scales and it shows my body fat was 39%. My handheld body fat tester had me at 44%. I met with a trainer at the Y where I workout and she did a skin fold test and my body fat was actually 29%.
  • I just came across the challenge this morning... Hope it's not too late to join in. I'm in for 60 miles. Thanks!
  • My husband *hates* commercials, (which is part of why we have a DVR), so we pause at the first commercial break for about 10 minutes and then we can fast forward thru the commercials for the rest of the show. I used to do a couple of sets of simple exercises during commercials or at least get up and do a little household…
  • Awesome story! Thanks for sharing! Sort of makes me feel lazy and a little ungrateful for not working out and being active when I am completely capable.
  • ^^^^ THIS!! You may thank your sister for this; one day...
  • I work my 'cheat' meals into my daily calories and sometimes even workout extra just to have them. I eat fairly clean most of the time, so when I decide to indulge a little, I make sure I really enjoy it. I indulge in things like my favorite BBQ, a burger from Five Guys, my favorite Neapolitan pizza, Chicken Pad Thai and…
  • Sounds wonderful! I'll come up and take classes and go paddleboarding!
  • Tony award winning playwright and director and/or primate zookeeper!
  • I totally think of it as MFP 'yelling' at me when I am under 1200 calories on a non-workout day! LOL! I use a window based on my MFP target calorie goal and half of the calories for my planned workout for that day. It'd be nice it MFP could at least off the option of a range for an intake target instead of one number. If a…
  • I  your FL too! This was a fun forum thread to read - thanks all for the smiles and giggles!
  • Thanks for posting this, I know I need to get out of my own head! Before this summer, I hadn't worn shorts beyond my fenced in back yard in years. (I also haven't worn a swimsuit in even more years, but that's a whole other level/forum thread!) I am working on it these days and on weekends, weather permiting, I am wearing…
in Shorts?! Comment by jakedner June 2013
  • I just started reading New Rules over the weekend and am looking forward to getting started next week! I think it is an excellent introduction into lifting. I am using it as a re-introduction after having taken a few years off from lifting. I hope you find that lifting will help you achieve your health and fitness goals!
  • Between walking quickly to and from my hot yoga class and then doing the class, I am usually pretty close to 1000 calories. If I add a walk at my lunch or take the dogs out for a walk in the evening I go beyond 1000 in one day. I weigh 165 and am in average shape. I couldn't do two of the hour long hot yoga classes on the…
  • Awesome thread! I have always wanted to be "one of those people" - fit, healthy, toned, making the right eating choices, helping and motivating people to reach their goals, etc. Passionate about health and fitness! I am surprised that it has taken me so long to figure out how to get started on doing it for myself! Now, if…
  • You look awesome!! I can totally relate. I haven't worn a swim suit in about 10 years either. I have put on shorts to work out alone at home or sit in my own fenced in back yard, but otherwise I have been strictly capris in the warm summer months and loving the winters where I could layer and cover up the fat. I am very…
  • I am awesome too! And I'm definitely not a cheeseburger hater! (I have a regularly scheduled dinner at Five Guys Burgers and Fries!)
  • I love working with a trainer! In fact, for mother's day this year my husband bought me a 20 session training package. I'm finishing some hot yoga sessions and will start working with my trainer in mid June. I have found that I gain when working with my trainer, but it is because I am building muscle. I lose inches and…
  • Congrats!
  • ^^^^^This!
  • What an amazing story! Thank you for sharing it with us all. You look fantastic and I'm glad you can see yourself the way your husband does. I am working on that myself, right now. You are an inspiration! Best wishes to you as you continue getting stronger and faster!
  • Since you asked, here is my advice: Let him share what he wants to talk about tonite, be honest about how you feel and ask for him to do the same. Be open minded. Take some time to think things through before you make a rash decision. When making a decision about next steps, be honest with yourself about what you want in…
  • Great attitude toward the eating! We eat out way too much, but I order pretty healthy, unless I am having a 'cheat' meal at Five Guys. Most of the time half my order goes into a to go box right away too. I allow myself one 'cheat' meal a week, but they are planned and I focus on staying within my calorie target or I…
  • I go for the mid fat and low sugar option. An Italian or a vinaigrette. I usually get salads at places that I know offer homemade options sweetened with honey or agave nectar or fruit.
  • This happens to me! I make a frenzied dash to move faster than the belt so I don't get slammed into the wall behind me.
  • I'm not afraid of falling off, but the way I have mine situated in my fitness room, one slip up and I'll slam into the basement wall. It keeps me moving at the same pace as the belt. Probably not the safest set up, especially if I thought I might fall, but my kids are notorious for sneaking up on people and scaring them so…
  • At various ages, with various hair styles, lengths and colors ; I've been told Amy Grant, Bernadette Peters and Marilyn Monroe - to name a few!
  • I assume those are your dogs pictured in your weight tracker... they are BEAUTIFUL! I have a red and white Siberian Husky named Keola.
  • I have been using jakedner for various things for nearly 18 years. As I mentioned in a previous post, my nickname is Jules and it is always already taken. So I started using my initials plus my married name. j.a.k. edner (Jake is another nickname I have gone by for years, even before I met and married my husband (who…
  • I love this! My nickname is Jules too and it's always already taken. Very smart and motivating of you to add the YAY to the beginning! Hope the cheering brings you success in getting your butt in shape!
