My wife and I always thought they were tacky too, so we didn't do one. We realized after the fact that it's not about the dollars, it's about giving everyone you've invited a chance to have a private minute with you. We really wish we had done it, looking back. Maybe just done it and not taken dollars or done dollars for…

So you didn't measure or count any ingredients or calories or macros, you didn't exercise, etc - those things all consititute "effort". Nothing related to health and fitness is effortless. Even the most genetically blessed among us have to put effort in to get results. Anyone who suggests otherwise is selling something.

 Gotta love the snake oil drinkers on these forums...if you believe ANYTHING, be it Paleo or anything else, will give you "effortless weight loss", I have a couple bridges and some swamp land to sell you.
-
Ah, Paleo.... We should eat what cavemen ate, except nothing on Earth exists as it did when they would have eaten it. Animals have been altered by evolution and centuries of hormone control and selective breeding. Fruits and vegetables have all been cross-pollinated and selectively grown to produce higher and higher…

My local grocery store carries the CareOne brand of whey protein powder. I'm sure you could get it from Amazon or something if that would be more convenient. It's cheap and doesn't have extra sugars or supplements or anything. Be careful about which kind you use - some of them have supplements or fillers that may or may…

I use 1% milk with my whey protein after workouts. I'm not an expert but I have read that using milk is actually a good idea even though it adds calories, as the natural sugars in the milk help deliver the protein to your muscles faster. Also, it's my experience that I'm much more likely to eat/drink things that are good…

Maximum density for me was about 350 (I'm 6 feet tall fyi). I don't know for sure because none of my scales went up that high... I felt like I was wearing a deep sea diving suit out of water. I'd get home from my very sedentary desk job and have to take a nap just because I'd been awake for 10 hours. I wore the biggest…

Pizza. I swear my stomach can hold 5 times more pizza than any other combination of foods.

I use them for a while, 2-3 weeks probably. When they're ready for washing I'll use them for yoga mats and then throw them in the wash, or we'll use them for ... other miscellaneous cleanup. To avoid the whole butt/face interaction, I always dry the smell zones with the corners of the towel. That way I know when I put my…

If you are eating 15% below TDEE and also not eating your exercise calories back, you shouldn't expect to gain weight. Caloric deficit = weight loss, caloric surplus = weight gain. Whether it's fat or muscle weight depends on your level of diet and exercise. I'm not an expert but it sounds like you need to increase your…

I like turtles.

Definately.

I got tested at the gym to determine my VO2max and TDEE. I know they're not laser-accurate, but they're better than guessing completely.

I won't name-drop here, but there are credit cards that give 6% cash back at grocery stores. That'd save you 6% right there. Works for me. Google it if you want more info.

I'm kind of a big deal. People know me.

If we're talking about what I'd like to eat, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Followed by Lucky Charms. If we're talking about what I actually allow myself to eat, I make a cocktail of bite-sized chocolate Frosted Mini Wheats and the Berry Yogurt Crunch Fiber Plus cereal. Some would probably say it's too much sugar but one serving…

I've had to go light on my uvula curls ever since my uvular hernia.
-
I disagree. Everybody knows that if you bulk up your uvula without working out your eyebrows, it'll throw your form all out of whack.

Going over on protein is good. Don't worry about that. You probably shouldn't worry if you're under on fat but if you're really far under, things like almonds and olive oil have good fats in them so you could eat a serving of almonds for about 150 cals if you need to add more good fat.

My knees sound like bubble wrap when I flex them. They've done so for a long time now, presumably because I had too much weight on them for too long. I talked to my doctor about it and she said almost exactly what you were told - if it doesn't hurt, don't worry about it. Strengthen the leg muscles, especially the quads.…

I swear by the elliptical for cardio. It's low impact so my knees and feet don't explode. Back when I was around 350 I started at 15-20 minutes with the minimum resistance setting and gradually worked my way up. Actual running is tough for me because my knees are iffy and my legs get really sore before I can really get my…

I weigh myself every morning before the shower, and sometimes later in the day as well. I treat my morning weigh-in as my "official" weight and just use the other weights for scientific purposes. I find that weighing more frequently gives me a better sense of how things are working - whether I've got more water or food in…

I've gone from about 350 to about 235. For most of that time, I did some light lifting with dumbbells 2 or 3 days a week and cardio 3 or 4 times a week. I started at 20 minutes of cardio per session because that's all I could really do at the time, and I worked up to 45-60 minutes per session. Nutritionally, I try to work…

I always hated protein shakes when I used a shaker - they were always clumpy, and I'm too lazy to clean an entire blender every day I work out. I bought a hand blender (I think it's a Proctor-Silex, got it on Amazon for about 25 bucks) and it works great. No more clumps and the attachment takes about 30 seconds to wash off…

Hopefully people aren't getting their calories-burned numbers from the cardio equipment they're using. Those numbers are beyond useless. Even the numbers MFP gives you are pretty suspect.
-
I agree with this to a point, but I also believe very strongly that people have a tendency to sabotage their efforts at eating better by setting unrealistic goals for themselves. For example, I know it would be much healthier for me to eat a load of cruciferous veggies every day. However, I simply cannot get them down…

I also hate almost all vegetables but I try to eat as much fruit as I can, especially berries. Some things I have found that work for reducing hunger pangs: 1. Fruit (as mentioned), and squeeze in the veggies you can tolerate as often as possible. 2. More frequent, small meals. It's a good idea to eat 4-6 meals a day, or…
