No One Is To Blame - by Howard Jones

A good alternative to yogurt is low-fat cottage cheese, which gives plenty of protein without the sugar or bitterness. If you only have a microwave, you can cook sweet potatoes (wrap them in plastic wrap and poke some holes with a fork). For a snack, you could try low-fat string cheese sticks. To make it a meal, microwave…

I chose Dymatize whey for my first, and never had a reason to change. The taste is much better than I'd expected.

Maybe your wife is worried that you're trying to change her or shame her, and she's rebelling by loudly holding firm to her own bad habits. I don't know what you can do. Nineteen years of marriage seems like too long to consider going separate ways. My wife doesn't necessarily support my diet, but at least she respects me…

Wow, you look great! Enjoy it, and make sure old bad habits don't sneak back into your life.

On Biggest Loser they once said that a pound is worth 3,500 calories. That can be a whole week of diet and walking for one pound of weight loss! Just stick to it. If you can stick to good habits the first 30 days, you can do it for the long haul.

You've already said it: I sometimes have to resort to protein powder to get the number high enough. I mix it with skim milk, just so it's more like real food.

I do it from both ends, like a super-spy cracking someone's neck.

Think of it this way: You're doing something that you can maintain healthfully for the rest of your life. She, however, can't take diet pills forever unless she wants to die of heart failure. Keep up the good work!

I use the labels anyway, but you're correct: Food companies are on the honor system to produce their own nutrition labels and numbers. The majority of products will never be selected for government auditing, but even that slim chance should deter most companies from lying too much. The US government's own nutrition info…

Gluten-free diets should address allergy issues, not general nutrition. Gluten is the type of protein in grains. You don't gain any benefits by missing out on that valuable protein, unless you have the allergy.

Total calories are more important for losing weight. However, if you don't keep track of your carb-protein-fat proportions, you might end up skinny-fat, meaning you will look skinny even if you have a high bodyfat percentage.

As long as you're eating whole fruits and not juicing, you're still filling your stomach with relatively few calories. As long as your total calories are in check, you're doing great. I would only worry about the carb-protein-fat proportions of the diet if you were training for a marathon or doing bodybuilding.

I would recommend against juicing, if your goal is weight loss. Juice has plenty of nutrients, but it's missing all of the fibrous parts of the fruit that fill your stomach and satisfy your appetite. However, if you're using juice as a replacement for soda, then this is definitely a good move in the right direction.

I think we end up paying higher prices because healthier foods have short shelf lives. You can't really buy a two-month supply of avocados when they're on sale. But, I do love the healthy foods that most people avoid as poor-people foods: beans, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and frozen vegetables.
