I have a full suspension mountain bike, which has shock absorbers on it for tackling rough terrain. The suspension was set to my heavier weight. I dropped a few pounds (~20), forgot to adjust the bike, and went for a ride. I hit some chunky terrain, the suspension kicked in, and it pogo'ed me right off the bike. I guess I…

Yikes! I'm genuinely glad your injury wasn't worse! I broke my leg last year right at the start of bike racing season. (I did it being cocky on my mountain bike). I won't lie, it ate me alive to be sidelined. The hardest period was the first 3 weeks (I didn't fully "enjoy" my surgery - or the massive plate and…

Rock on, Starchile, rock on!!!

So true. Unfortunately it's not always so easy to learn through other people's experience. I know I don't always listen to the hard won wisdom of others, either!

Sorry if this is a bit depressing - but it turned out good in the end. I distinctly remember sitting in the ICU with my dad after he had just had a bad ischemic stroke. Only a few months before, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and had 2 stents put in. This was all the more terrifying because my mom had died…

I agree, a 300 cal jump on a 20-min bike spin is a bit weird. I'd trying changing each setting back to its previous value (weight or resting HR, one at at time) and then doing a virtually similar exercise routine (recommend different days, not back to back) to rule out which one might be contributing to the wackiness. I…

I'm in Papillion (just outside Omaha). I also run *just a little* and bike QUITE A LOT if anyone wants a MFP exercise meetup...

Please ***WALK*** this mile for me! Girl's gotta rest & check her HR every so often!

You mentioned using your HRM for cardio... The website link below explains the basics about heart rate zones, how to calculate your zones (multiple methods), and what the zones mean when working out. It's a good starting point. http://wserver.flc.losrios.edu/~willson/fitns304/handouts/heartRates.html HRMs are useful for…

I wish I could remember the compliments as easily as I do the insults. Funny how our brain works like that. I had a coworker dump 2 trashbags full of her old, discarded "fat" clothes on my desk at work. That crushed me. My self-esteem was already so low, I didn't say anything. I took the bags unopened to Goodwill. The…

You may not realize that Trek also has a history of litigation for trademark infringement. Trek sued a winery in an attempt to stop them from using Trek in their name - even going so far as demanding they destroy their entire stock of labelled bottles. Trek has an even bigger "black eye" from outrageous lawsuits - Trek…

Wait, wha? Didn't they say the same thing about the first mountain bikes? (just kids bikes for adults). It's called variety, friends. The spice of life and all that jazz. I "stole" a friend's Surly Pugsley one fine wintry morn and smooshed my way thru 4-6" of fresh powder at my local offroad haunt (logs, g-outs, drops,…

Count me in too, please! I was glad to finally have the diagnosis, but the realization of what having PCOS meant hit me pretty hard at the time. I'm sure many here can relate. I struggle with weight and fertility issues, too, but I'm not letting PCOS define me or keep me down, dammit!

I live in Omaha, Nebraska. And yes, we still have 'bladers. Nebraskans are mighty thrifty folk and don't part easily with perfectly good sporting equipment. (Behold the pogoball!) We're a wee bit insulated from modern life a la The Truman Show. While riding the mixed-use trail in town, I passed an older lady rockin'…

I'm mainly a biker, but I'll greet everyone. I noticed bikers respond more to other bikers, runners respond more to other runners, etc. (Rollerbladers, with your projectile legs of death and destruction - you're on your own!) When walking my Golden Retriever, she insists we greet nearly every walker/dogwalker - assuming…

Tough one... it really depends on the cheese/meat/veg quantity, which could vary. You said it's thin crust and they go light on the toppings.... I'd go with the CPK equivalent (many are thin crust) for logging. I doubt you get a chance to eat this often, so enjoy it and don't fret about the log entry being accurate, just…

I just "re-committed" myself on MFP today, too! Similar situation, also. Feel free to add me.

Sounds healthy - and quite tasty - to me. If you want to make it uber healthy, poach the egg instead of fry it (I use cute little silicone egg poaching cups).

Fav snacks: Plain (or very lightly seasoned) popcorn, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes, fresh cherries, grapes (they're fun frozen, too)... Fav "desserts": Fage greek yogurt topped with berries & agave drizzle, low-cal popsicles/fudgesicles, or barely thawed chunks of frozen mango (my brain thinks they're little hunks of…

I say "Hi" or pop a little wave to everyone I pass (biker, runner, walker, rollerblader). I don't care if they respond ... but it's nice when they do. I think it makes the trail/road a much friendlier place.

This made me think back to my childhood (early 80s in the midwest US) and we really didn't snack between meals. There weren't any snack foods in the pantry or fridge to raid. If I was really hungry, my mom would give me an apple, maybe, depending on how close we were to mealtime. If I recall, there also weren't a lot of…

If it's a ride (not a race), then you can take all the time you need, rest when you need to, etc. That makes a big difference. Pacing is key.

I'd recommend searching for articles on how to train for a century-distance (or longer) ride/race. Lots of wisdom out there on conditioning for longer distance and multi-day rides. From my personal experience - make sure your gear is in good working order (I go for full tune-ups before big distance events/races), don't…

Sadly, my ambitious goal to trek to the nearby SuperTarget on foot didn't happen. I finished shovelling the driveway and realized my hair had icicles in it. I'm sitting here wrapped up in a fleece blankie next to a space heater.

^^^ 80's 5K, as in 1980's? Don't get my hopes up - I have a sweet pair of stripey legwarmers just itching to be let outta mothballs.

I weigh every morning - and I should probably stop. It has a habit of setting my mood for the day. Not so good. I commend folks that are able to keep daily fluctuations in perspective.

Methinks this runaway freight train of a thread has officially jumped the tracks... Peace, everybody!

FWIW, I co-habitate with possibly the world's pickiest eater (or at least a contender for the title). This ^^^ is how I've gotten him to start eating, and liking (!), all sorts of new stuff. (I think he ate 3 types of veggies when we first started dating - and potatoes were 2 'em.) This method has worked wonders for us.…

Blood (also called Moro) oranges are yummy. The flesh is deep red and it's slightly sweeter than a regular navel orange. Also try Cara Cara oranges - they're pink inside! I always look forward to good citrus this time of year! Since you're asking... Here are some easy down-to-earth suggestions: - Try adding little tiny…

I'm in the EXACT same boat, Glozaria. I'm eating between 1300-1500 cals/day & working out 6x per week (P90X, yoga & cycling). And I've only dropped a 1 pound since Jan 1st, *BUT* I can feel noticeable muscle development, my waist has shrunk, and my jeans are getting baggy. I lost over 100lbs many years ago, and I remember…
