I'm sorry, I don't really have any advice. I just wanted to say that I hope you get you lupus under the best control that you can and you start feeling better soon. In my opinion, there is not much worse than feeling so sick that you can't eat. I know when my dad was on chemo, about the only thing he could eat was canned…

I totally get this. This morning, I looked in the mirror and said, oh, darn, I gained weight. Because my stomach was sticking out like you said. Hopped on the scale, figuring I'd better know what the damage is so that I can take corrective actions and, not only did I not gain, I had lost about a half a pound. I think it is…

Good for you! You are truly an inspiration for the rest of us. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

I really have nothing more helpful to add except to say that this individual made a very gracious and respectful answer. I hope that you can get past your gains (we all can understand how you feel!) and good luck to you.

Thank you all so much. Your expertise is so appreciated.

Nope, I have no problems with disagreements. A good "argument" is a fantastic way to put forth new and challenging ideas. That is how we learn and grow. But one doesn't have to be disrespectful about it. Like the above respirator se to this question about turning off your tablet and cell phone..... How is being that…

Excellent reply to someone who was being very snarky. I don't understand why people can't respect each other a little more.

Just turned 52 myself last week. I agree, where did the time go? Seems like everything is catching up with us now, doesn't it? Friend me as well, if you like. Sometimes our situations are very different from the 20- and 30- somethings!

Ah, no. Rigorous exercise does not produce muscle. Strength training helps to build muscle. As for heart rate, that is utterly wrong. The more your heart rate is up, the more calories you burn.

In a closed system only. Humans are not a closed system! Why do we always forget this? It is hugely important when figuring out the kinetics of weight loss.
-
This is an INCREDIBLY insensitive and horrible thing to say. You should be ashamed of yourself.
-
No. Eating less will not make your body store fat!
-
Beans have lots of protein. So do most vegetables, actually. Both of these are low fat.
-
I know it is frustrating, and we have all been there (honestly), but try not to let this get to you! As the above poster said, it is most likely just water weight and that will resolve itself in a few days. A week is hardly any time at all, really, just stick with what you are doing because it sounds like you are on the…

Actually, Joel Fuhrman was an Olympic athlete and highly promotes exercise.

You know, you don't have to agree with everyone, but you also don't need to be so disrespectful, either. It is so sad that there isn't appropriate etiquette on these boards. Why can't you make your point without resorting to attacks? Does it just make you feel better? Are you, perhaps, a bully and this is just "your way"?…

No

Boy, talk about snarky! All I did was ask a question. I'm so glad that you know it all. Puts the rest of us to shame, I guess...

What does QFT stand for?
-
This. You gotta try. I applaud your efforts to do this. Do you like fruit?
-
I don't believe I ever used the word "junk". Nor did I ever say that people should not ever, never eat processed foods. And I'm glad you feel healthy eating what you are eating. But if someone else does not wish to eat that way, for whatever reason, and is requesting help to meet that wish, why talk them out of it? Why…

This can't be said any better!

Your body doesn't convert it differently. But fructose in fruit, rather than in some sugary product, is combined with fiber which delays some of the metabolism of the fructose so that it causes less of an insulin spike. Too much fruit can still be an issue for people with diabetes. Fruits are good for you (nature is so…

Not so fast. If you live north of Iowa! You're most likely deficient in vitamin D, especially if you don't eat a lot of dairy. I say, go and check it out and make sure you are getting what you need. I never thought that the use of vitamin supplements were warranted. Until I started doing some research. And even though I…

Oh, this! Especially the " don't consume these things because it is obvious they weren't meant to be consumed because they are harmful" deal. Then why do people still smoke cigarettes?
-
True, and good points. But I was shocked(maybe I shouldn't have been) over how much money, time, and research food companies put into making processed foods that not only taste good, but actually get people to eat more of it. And, yes, over consumption is the culprit, but how many people can say that they got fat on…
-
No clue. My suggestion is that you see your doctor for a check-up.
-
You'd probably have to calculate based on your calories. Check out http://www.heart.org for some help.

Other will probably not agree, but I say no, it isn't healthy. Of course, I'm assuming you make your potato salad with white potatoes and mayonnaise. I think you'd be getting too much saturated fats with the mayonnaise and not enough nutrients (for four times a week) with the white potatoes. I think you would be doing…

I think if anyone has a chance at this, it is you! And I agree with the others, you are, indeed, a friend to have! Good luck!
