You've already started -- just by coming here and wanting to make a change! You've been through so much...be kind to yourself. You've already gotten a lot of great advice. As others have said, take one hurdle at a time. Even when you feel discouraged and want to give up, keep coming back here. This place has helped me…

$800-$1000 for a family of 4. DC metro.

My problem is that in order to lose more weight I have to net under 1400, and at that point I'm just HUNGRY. I usually end up eating closer to 1700 and just maintain. I don't always have time to burn the extra calories. At 5'3" and 180lbs, this can't be my "set point," it just can't! :'( I'm giving myself a break through…

Maybe you should ask for a DVD player for Christmas! :) I'm doing 30DS and it's available online.

In my case sleep deprivation and working out go hand in hand. If I get enough sleep, I don't have time to work out.

Again...going back to public health statistics. If one is overweight one's chances of developing health problems increase over time. If one is a healthy weight, those chances are lower. It's a game of risk. There are no guarantees in any scenario.
-
See bolded. I said it increases the chances, not that it WILL cause these problems. I agree that there is nothing wrong with having a goal that isn't perfect on paper. I have no illusions of being perfect, even at my goal weight, which is still 40+ lbs away. After 20+ years of obesity, 15 years of smoking (quit in 1999),…

I had lap band surgery in May 2012. I don't think the surgery has "finished its job," at least not in my case. It's an ongoing process that will continue until the day I die. In other words, I didn't have a huge loss thanks to the surgery and then had to keep going "on my own." Maybe because the band is less extreme than…

You're healthy because you're 23. Add another 20+ years to your age and those numbers won't look so good. That statement is for you and the OP and anyone else who thinks that being overweight is healthy. Statistics show without a doubt that excess weight increases the chances for developing the diseases that we're hear…

I tried and failed and tried and failed many times before I "got it," and I still haven't "got it" all the time. If I may offer a word of advice...develop a relationship with a therapist or who specializes in eating issues or a nutritionist who understands emotional eating. Read The Beck Diet Solution and do the exercises…

If they ask my opinion I give it. If not, I give it anyway, but in a "kinder, gentler" way, like by telling them what's working for me.

Don't have time to read the whole thread now, but definitely bookmarked for later. My problem is emotional eating. Every time I've been through something tough and stressful -- major move, new job, death in the family, getting married, having babies, etc. -- I've gained weight. Not. Any. More. I'm much more aware of my…

Some yes some no. That's because after so many months (years?) of eating better, I can actually enjoy some of my previous trigger foods in moderation! For a long time I couldn't buy cookies because I'd eat the whole package. My poor deprived kids! Now I keep cookies in the house and eat one occasionally and don't really…

I don't know what to tell you since I know nothing about metabolism damage or if you could even have it due to anorexia. I doubt many people on this site would know either. If I were you I'd go to the experts -- the docs who helped you recover, for example. Good luck...

AHEM...I said: No one has told her to eat garbage. We're just pointing out that "eating healthy" isn't enough to lose weight, you have to have a calorie deficit. 3000 calories per day of "healthy food" is going to make her gain weight. You remind me of my husband...just looking to start an argument...

Do you know how many calories you're eating? Do you know how many you *should* be eating to lose weight? I have found this to be the most accurate for me: scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/. It's taken me a long time, patience, and discipline to figure out the right numbers. Hang in there...you will too! No need to…

I had lap band surgery in May 2012. It's different from the other two, as you know, but I'd be happy to chat with you about my experiences. For the first several months after my surgery I attended a support group that was really helpful -- do you have something like that to tap into?

Day 13 done! After trying Level 2 on Day 11 and not finishing, I went back to Level 1 for Day 12. Today I did Level 2 and didn't die. I *almost* died, and my arms feel like cooked spaghetti, but I'm still here! woohoo! As far as taking breaks, I'm finding that doing 30DS every other day is working well for me. On the days…

LOL You're a bad man.

Well I'm half French, so to me alcohol mixes well with everything...a nice Cote du Rhone, maybe a Bordeaux :)

I'm guessing from her "accent" that she's from the UK -- drinking age is 16 or 18 there, depending on the type of alcohol. OP, it's hard when people are constantly offering you treats and alcohol, especially if they're things you want to eat and drink. It's especially hard at your age -- peer pressure and all! Rather than…

LOL. Did you click? I'm scared. You do it.
-
Your ticker says you need to lose 200 lbs but your OP says you need to lose 100. You've posted that youtube link twice. I'm getting a funny feeling. Not clicking.

Agreed...and because it's mostly hyper-processed crap it doesn't fill you up for very long. You're better off getting your calories from whole sources of protein, fiber, carbs, and fat. You'll be more satisfied and less likely to go over your deficit.
-
I think if you slowly incorporate home-made food into your diet you'll lose your taste for fast food. I love to cook and I do it well. Fast food tastes like plastic grease to me.
-
Like I said earlier, if you exercise more you'll be allowed to eat more and still stay at a deficit. That's the only way I can do it and not be a hangry *kitten*.

I'm 5'3" and to lose weight I have to net less than 1400. It's hard because it get so HUNGRY! I agree that you have to "embrace the hunger" to a point. If my stomach starts growling at 10am I just remind myself that I'll be able to eat lunch in a couple of hours -- I have a glass of water and just deal. If the hunger gets…
