"Starvation mode" is mostly BS. If you were severely malnourished for several months or years (think anorexia, being a POW, etc.), yes, your metabolism would suffer, but most of us don't go into "starvation mode" from cutting calories. I set mine to "sedentary" because I have a desk job, but since you're a student and have…

The best thing you can do is weigh and measure your food so you know how many calories you're consuming. Figure out your TDEE and then cut that. There are plenty of TDEE calculators out there. Depending on how much weight you want to lose, you would cut your TDEE by 10-20%. Add exercise to keep your body healthy and…

Congratulations! It's so hard to turn that corner and go from the status quo to a whole new way of eating and living. I had lap band surgery 2.5 years ago and have never regretted it, but surgery is certainly not for everyone. Please send me a friend request if you want -- I'm happy to share my experiences. :)

I think the soreness will go away in a few days. I was in relatively good shape before pneumonia knocked me out for 7 weeks, so I'm hoping it won't take terribly long to get back up to speed.

Exercise doesn't make you lose weight, eating fewer calories than you burn does.

I'm going to try to do 30 days of level 1 with occasional rest days (per your advice), then 30 days of level 2, then 30 days of level 3. By the time I'm done it should be spring and I can start running outside again. :)

I wish I could *like* your posts. Thanks for answering!

I'm sure you're all anxiously awaiting an update...*snicker* I was a big girl and went ahead and did day 2 despite my soreness. I found that after I warmed up it wasn't so bad. Proud of me. :)

Good point. If I try to be all perfectionist about it the first time I'll feel like a failure if it doesn't work out exactly as planned. I think I'll take some Tylenol tonight, go for a long walk, and tackle day 2 tomorrow. Thanks :)

I find I need a little fat and protein to keep me from going crazy. An apple just isn't enough. My go-tos are: trail mix, cottage cheese, protein bars, hummus, peanut butter.

Congratulations!! My goal is -120lbs too...I've made it to -74ish and I'm stuck...up and down the same 2-4 lbs. But seeing your pics and thread have helped me get my head back in the game! :)

um. yes?

Lie and say you're getting over a stomach bug.

I gave myself permission to eat the candy without guilt. I didn't gorge on it, but I did indulge in plenty of mini KitKats and Recees peanutbutter cups. Weight stayed the same.

the peanut butter cup is ok because protein

I wish I knew how to post a pic here. Anyway, rather than panic and starve yourself, find a good seamstress to do this to your dress:…

Time for a trip to Montreal!

Oh, thanks...I was confused because of the way she writes.

Fashion is a pretty lame reason to stop eating gluten. Your doctor told you that??? Fire your doctor. If you don't have celiac disease, eat gluten.

That's "les softs" ;)

What is the question?

I am. Just a warning...you'll find quite a bit of negative comments about weight loss surgery on this site. As I'm sure your docs have told you, focus on getting protein at every meal. Good sources are greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and of course, meat (including chicken, fish, other seafood). Nuts and cheese are good too,…

aahhh...thanks for the explanation. :)

pudding? Who eats pudding? I'm confused about these food choices. Is this a specific restaurant I'm not familiar with?

I don't understand why those are your only options? The only thing on your list I would want is the steak.

Well, I didn't want to get into a tit-for-tat "my-life-is-harder-than-yours" sort of thing, but I get home from work around 6...7 or 7:30 if I have to pick up kids from soccer or the babysitter's or my mom's. My husband is never home, at least not until February 2017. My house is not perfectly clean nor do I have time for…

All of this advice is frustrating because no matter what I say it's going to sound like an excuse! LOL I already get up at 5:30 and I'm NOT a morning person...I can barely speak in complete sentences at that hour, much less work out. If I work out after work I won't see my kids. They are my priority. I can't not feed them,…

I'm in a similar situation and I NEED to get back into an exercise routine. Six weeks ago husband's job transferred him to another state. I work full time and have two small kids. Coincidentally, around the time hub moved away I got walking pneumonia...I'm just now feeling better and I seem to have my energy back. By the…
