I think you're seem bit obsessed and you need to relax about this. When human beings bend over their skin folds over -- you're not made of plastic like a manikin.

I'm confused by this post. You say she should ask her doc about basic physiology but then say that the doc probably won't know the answer. How is that helpful? I still think this doc was being lazy by just telling the OP to avoid foods that most people eat too much of. It doesn't sound like he took the time to really talk…

:'( :'( :'(

Well it's gross. I think it's ruined red peppers for me forever. :'(
-
Quoting myself, from original post: "I'm eating a red bell pepper and it has an odd plastic-like flavor."
-
Pretty sure it's real. It came from the produce department, not the "home decor" department. LOL
-
And we wouldn't be fat!
-
Humans are naturally omnivores. Everything else is just fashion.

I think the doctor is being lazy. Rather than taking the time to explain calorie deficit, he just listed a few of the foods that people generally eat too much of and called it a day. OP, you don't have to cut all those foods out of your diet. If there's nothing wrong with you medically, you've just been eating more than…

This is one of the problems I have with MFP's nutrition settings. Maybe they're referring to processed sugar? Whatever it is, I ignore it. Most of my sugars come from fruit so I don't worry about it.

I'm also 5'3" and also twice your age and I'm sad to know that to lose these last 40+ lbs I'm going to have to eat a lot less. :( I've been really sick for the last 5 weeks and haven't been able to exercise, but I'm getting better and I know I have to work out daily or else be VERY hungry. And me hungry is not good for…

so...what IS an FTM?
-
I do the former and I've lost almost 75 lbs. I try not to deprive myself of anything, just make it fit into my calorie allotment for the day.
-
oh come now. no *kitten*? how about "butt?"
-
As I am also a pear shape and have also noticed that my *kitten* and thighs look proportionately bigger as my top half gets smaller, plus the fact that I'm 48 years old and years of cutting and bulking and recomposition are not in my future, now I'm just depressed. :p

He's frustrated

Exactly. This is a written forum where we communicate by...guess what? Writing! it doesn't get more basic than that.

I'm reading this thread with great interest but I have to go to an appt now, so bookmarking for later. In the meantime, has anyone brought up the chemical responses in the brain to overeating? Not saying I agree or disagree with it...don't know enough about it...but is it possible to become addicted to those chemicals?…

OK that was hard to read, but I think you said you want to lose belly fat. Is that correct? Press 1 for yes, 2 for no. (kidding) You have to lose more fat all over. Eat less, work out more, be patient, and stop obsessing.
-
Indeed. If I had time to walk 10 miles a day I would, just so I could drink more wine! *insert emoticon of drinking smiley face*

I really hate to post on a thread that has already beaten a dead horse 20 times, but the OP sounds so much like my husband, I just have to put in my 2 cents. This method worked for my husband when he was your age, OP. Back when he was a bachelor he would eat whatever he wanted and check his weight every day. On the days…
-
Exactly! Didn't see your post before I posted mine. We're going to be hungry hungry old ladies. :'(

Jealouser and jealouser of both of you. You must be young. At 48 years old, 5'3" and 175 lbs, I have to net under 1400 to lose weight. And I still want to lose at least 45 lbs more. By the time I get to my goal weight, I'll be even older. If I get there and turn 60, say, I'll have to net under 1400 just to maintain! I'm…

No time to read the thread so I'm sorry if this has been said. Keep up the weight training -- it can help you retain the muscle you have while losing fat. It's also good for bone health. It also helps make you strong and therefore badass. B)

You're going to see daily weight fluctuations based on water, menstrual cycle, bowel movements, etc. Stick with it and focus on trends over a longer period of time. Those calorie goals are just estimates. Again, stick with it, log everything as accurately as you can. Get a food scale and a heart rate monitor if you don't…

This also sounds like mindfulness/CBT. Maybe some therapists are spinning it and calling it "hypnosis" to try and appeal to a certain clientele? Hypnosis in the old, classic sense of the word is utter nonsense. "You are getting verrrrry sleeeeepy...when I snap my fingers you will wake up and act like a chicken." Really?
-
That's not what I would call hypnosis. Sounds more like mindfulness and/or CBT.
-
That's not my point. It's this: if you can't reach your calorie goal, eat a cheeseburger. Problem solved.
-
Your profile doesn't say where you are. You don't have to eat ice cream, there are a lot of suggestions other than ice cream on this thread. It kills me when people say they can't reach their calories for the day. They didn't get to the point of wanting to lose weight by eating nothing but lettuce...

I'm not a doctor, but vitamin deficiencies can throw you off a lot. Yes, general doc would help, refer you to the right people.
