Wait...what? A contest?? Red flag! Red flag! Your insurance should cover it if you're eligible, and if you're not eligible, maybe you don't need lap band surgery in the first place. Just how overweight are you? They already scheduled surgery for you without ever having met you??? I had lap band surgery two years ago, but…

I look in the mirror, sigh, and tell myself "yep, still fat."

I'm not a "hater," I just like to work with facts. In my teens and 20s (and even into my 30s) I couldn't care less about health, I only wanted to be skinny. Hence my diet of pickles, lettuce, black coffee, and cigarettes. And I wasn't special -- ALL the girls I knew did it.

It depends on how you're shaped and where you lose weight last. If you have a big butt (like me), you may have to lose 20lbs before you drop a pants size. Too many unknowns, can't compute.

"Clean" eating is fine but you won't lose weight from it. You only lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn. That's the ONLY way. Calories in < calories out = weight loss. That's it.

Oh cool...I'm a flexitarian then. I was a lacto vegetarian for breakfast (coffee, greek yogurt), but then I became a chicken-atarian for lunch (chopped salad with chicken), and I just became an ovo vegetarian a few minutes ago (hard boiled egg and a kiwi). Don't know what I'm going to be for dinner -- maybe I'll just eat a…

I would listen to this guy. Look at his profile pic -- he not only went from blob to wowiewowow  he actually changed his race!

Shouldn't age be a variable? Maybe not for you youngsters (and men), but Madame Menopause is knocking on my door and it's certainly slowing things down...

Gender: Female Age: 48 Height: 5'3" Starting weight: 250 Current Weight: 178 Goal weight: 130 Activity level: Lightly Active (desk job but exercise) Weight loss goal: I'll take whatever I can get Calorie Goal (Net): 1300 Average Calorie intake: 1515 Exercise: Running and/or walking 30-40 min 4x week, strength training…

Here's another one. I like it because it's so simple and after 2+ years and over 70lbs lost, the numbers are still spot on for me! http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/

I've never been anorexic and I don't know what real starvation feels like, but I've worked in international development for 20 years and I've been around people who were literally starving to death. So yes, I'm hypersensitive about the term.

You don't need to give up chocolate or carbs or sugar, and you need to net more than 1000 calories. Edited to change "eat" to "net." You need to net more than 1000 calories, assuming you're not 4 feet tall. I doubt you're burning 600 calories in exercise every day, too. That's pretty tough to do for an average person.…

Is she using a bit of hyperbole or does she mean she's literally starving? hmmm...

Again, you probably need to eat more protein and fiber...and add some healthy fats! It's impossible to give you real advice if you don't open your diary, but if you're living on 1700 cals of air popped popcorn and celery sticks, yeah, you're not going to feel well.

OK, you're right. I wasn't there. But don't try to convince me that jello is "good" in any way, shape, or form! LOL

beans, lentils, barley, bulgur

Sounds pretty nasty to me. I'll bet the chicken was rubbery and had those fake "grill" marks on it, the tomato was flavorless, and I don't even consider canned peaches and jello to be food.
-
hmmm... I know you don't mean "starve" literally, right? 1600-1700 seems like plenty to me, but I'm only 5'3" and I've been doing this a long time. How tall are you? You say you have a "ton" of lean muscle...why is that? Were you a bodybuilder in the past? Are you sure about that? Have you had your BF% tested by a reliable…

When I was super heavy I was so depressed I didn't care what happened to me. I started out doing it for my kids because I didn't want them to lose their mother when they were still young. Then, as the weight started to come off and I started to feel physically better, I started working harder for myself. I don't know if…

I don't have time to read this whole long thread, but let me point out that the article isn't personal. They're not saying that YOU are going to fail at your weight loss efforts. They're looking at the population as a whole and based on past evidence from a public health perspective, just looking strictly at the numbers,…

I've heard that from my mom...a lot. I tell her I'm doing it right this time. Personally I love your dude quote...

The MFP forecast is based on a mathematical formula. 1+1 = 2. Our bodies are organic, fluid, variable...plus no one can consume and burn the exact same way every single day for 5 weeks. Like someone else said, the forecast is just meant to be a motivator.

I'm nauseated just looking at all the milk you drink... :noway: Really...I haven't drunk a glass of milk since I was 10 years old. blech... LOL But seriously, as much as you love the stuff, you're drinking way too many calories, and, as others have said, not eating enough vegetables and fruit. You're young and male...you…

Well I'm fat...but that's no surprise. Not for much longer, *****ez! :drinker: What makes me sad is that the average woman my height (5'3") and age (48) in the United States has a BMI of 30. That's sad.

Sounds like you have a super hangover. Drink water, get some sleep. You'll feel like yourself in a day or two.

What she said ^ It's great that you're doing all that exercise, but no wonder you're hungry. If you just want to look more defined, you need to lose more fat. The only way to lose fat is to maintain a calorie deficit. If you want to actually GAIN muscle (very difficult for women), you need to eat more calories and get into…

Today I had a chopped salad that I prepared at home. A whole tomato, half a red bell pepper, a mini cucumber, a handful of baby carrots, some sugar snap peas, 1/2 cup of chick peas, a handful of blueberries, a small can of white albacore tuna in water, and two tablespoons of home made balsamic vinaigrette. Turned into a…

I don't like it plain or savory. I use honey or syrup or even fruit jam.

I only had time to read the first page, so forgive me if this has been suggested, but if you can't seem to eat 250 cals/day less, what about burning 250 cals/day more? Go for a 30 minute run every day and just keep eating at maintenance. Either way you're creating a calorie deficit and the weight will come off.

Oh yes. I'm 48 years old and 5'3" so my TDEE is somewhere around 1500-1600 calories. In order to lose weight (and very slowly) I can't eat more than about 1350, so if I don't want to be hungry all the time I have to exercise. I don't like being hungry -- it turns me into a cranky *****.
