Hey there! I would recommend splurging a little and getting a Polar HRM. I have the FT60 and it's awesome!! I've heard really good things about the FT40 as well, and it's a bit cheaper. If you plan on using it regularly and want the most accurate reading possible, I'd definitely save up for a nicer one!

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're going over by a lot. Even then, it depends on where your fat and carbs are coming from. I really pay attention to keeping my sodium low, but if my fats are coming from things like almonds, avocados, etc, then I don't worry about it. Those are the good fats. And same with…

I used to drink milk and sugar in my tea as well, but started cutting them out slowly until I got to the point that I just drink tea without anything in it. Maybe try using stevia and just a dash of skim milk in the meantime? Can't possibly add much to your intake!

Hi there! I've been a vegetarian for 3 years and I won't ever ever go back to eating meat! I didn't initially feel different when giving up meat, because it's very easy to eat unhealthily even as a vegetarian. Once I started eating a clean diet as a vegetarian, I felt a vast difference. More energy, lighter, better sleep…

Yeah, you'll lose weight under 1200 cals, but the cals your body burns are coming from muscle, not fat. This is NOT what you want. Livestrong is a great website as well with lots of good articles. Have a read! http://www.livestrong.com/article/518807-negative-side-effects-of-eating-less-than-1-200-calories-a-day/

^^Agreed! You can't lose weight eating less than 1200 calories a day. At that point your body goes into survival mode and will hold onto any and all foods you take in. If you're having a hard time getting to 1200 without getting sick, I'd definitely recommend seeing a doctor. 1200 is not that much! Please make sure to take…

Hi Cheryl! Are you working out as well or just limiting your daily intake? If you're working out, the calories you burn at the gym are added to your daily intake so that you can eat more! I have a hard time sticking to 1200 as well, but since I go to the gym every day (and burn an average of 500-800 cals) that's an extra…

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know, you CAN eat normal food! Just don't eat tons of it and all the time! Eat cake and icecream, and have a burger every now and then. In a perfect world, we'd be able to withstand eating solely healthy foods, but it's not meant for all of us all of the time. You'll see over and over again…

Hi! I have mine set at 1200 (to lose 2lbs a week) and I've been consistently losing 2lbs a week for the last month since starting MFP. Although, you say you try not to eat back your calories from the gym, but the program is set up so that you DO eat them back. If you eat 1500 calories a day, but you are burning 400-600…

Nice to know I can lower my reps! My gym classes always have us do 3 sets of 12, so maybe I should ask the instructors about that and the difference between doing more sets with lower reps? I meant to mention in my fist post that it's a good idea to lift weights on a regular basis anyhow (not just because it's too hot to…

Hi! General rule of thumb is 3 sets of 12-15 reps for each exercise with a minute of rest in between sets. And you don't want to exercise the same muscle groups everyday. Rest in between days. Resting is what builds muscle! 5lbs is a great place to start. If you get to the point where you're not feeling the weights do…

Yeah the C25K program is great! It lets you slowly build up your endurance. Just make sure you've got good shoes/arch support because if not, shin splints might slow down your progress. And PLEASE don't be embarrassed! Nobody can think less of you getting out there and getting in shape!

Hi! I just recently purchased the Polar FT60 and it is WONDERFUL. It does an initial fitness test based on your age/sex/weight/hr and then structures a work out plan for you so that you're working the right amount of time in each fitness zone. It makes a huge difference in calculating how many calories I've burned at the…
