Tea, water, and sometimes watered juice. Juice is very sweet, so I add water of mineral water to it, in order to reduce the amount of sugar I drink. I strongly dislike the after-taste of most sweeteners, so I have learned to like water instead!

I know what is good for me, and approximately how much I can eat. I try to stay with that. I have to learn to live with this as a lifestyle, not a temporary cure. Holidays are good occasions to practice.

Of course, I had to google pink slime to figure out what it is. Yes, I prefer horse. But I'd like to know that I am eating horse, and not be told afterwards that they put some mystery meat in my food.

My 30 pounds over were well distributed on a tall body, so there were no real surprises. Yes, the skin sags a bit, but I expected that. The surprising part is however that nobody notice I have lost weight, but I have people doing doubletakes when they see me, trying to figure out why I look so good now. They tend to…

Is it milk products in general, or have you tried goat cheese? Some people are allergic to cow milk, but have no probems with goat milk. If you are lactose intolerant, harder cheeses are normally better. That's because the lactose comes away in the whey, which is left-overs after making cheese. If it's the fat, I would…

I can't really say if you have a thyroid issue or not, as there are a lot of other things which may cause these problems. You should discuss other options with your doctor, like PCOS. Do you have any other symptoms? Do you feel cold, slow, has your skin changed? Is your thyroid swollen? If you do have hypothyroidism, you…

Depends, how did you put in your activity level? I put in sedentary, because I sit for hours every day, and then I log when I suddenly spend some hours standing or walking. If you claimed you're sedentary too, then the internet tells me just standing rather than sitting at the desk burns 50 calories an hour. So assuming…

If it's not freezing, I recommend that you have a word with your doctor about those breathing problems. Cold does affect breathing, but until it gets really cold and dry - well below freezing - cold is supposed to make breathing easier by calming and opening the airways, not harder. If it's the temperature and not just…

It depends. You need energy, but don't want to be full when you work out, so I just have a snack if I am hungry. Afterwards your body needs food to get the advantage of the work-out, but it doesn't have to be a full meal. Some protein and healthy carbs is what you need then. So it's up to you really, when you have dinner,…

How cold is freezing? If it's - 20 Celcius, I'd recommend to make your walks shorter, but more frequent. Apart from that there's really no reason not to wrap up properly and get out. Unless you have asthma and have been warned about air quality and cold, it's not dangerous to breathe cold air. And if you don't walk too…

Well, she's a growing girl! I am, hopefully, a shrinking one. ;-)

At your size, your weight is not outside of a normal bmi. This will make it particularly hard for you to lose anything. At the point in your weight-loss journey, working out may be shaping your body (stronger, fitter, firmer), but at the same time it may cause you to stop your weight-loss or even gain weight. If you really…

This depends on what you need to watch. I am one of those who can't eat too much fruit and then particularly not bananas, because of the high sugar content. If you have issues with sugar (diabetes, insulin resistance, candida problems) then all sugar is sugar, natural or processed. However, if you are healthy and burn…

I just want to congratulate you on the decision to turn your life around and start recovering. And I want to add that on top of the fat, you need protein. The number one source of that for vegans is tofu. Try to intruduce a little of that in your food for variety. With smoothies, healthy fat and vegetable protein, you and…

When I changed my eating habits years ago, my colleagues were extremely curious about my food. How I made it work, what I was eating, etc. When I lost weight, I got loads of compliments. Then they started to change the way they were eating. For celebrations, when we otherwise would have had cake, there were healthy…

If you want to up your oxygen intake in the most efficient way possible (for untrained people), this is a workout pattern which has been deveoped through research. You won't become a very strong runner, but it will help your heart and your circulation, and it's a good place to start if you have never tried before. You do…

Food treats are normally things I need to survive, not a reward. I mean: I tend to participate in work-related dinners and events, where I don't control the menu. It's normally really good, so it's not a chore, but it tends to go beyond the plan. Due to this, I don't really think of eating something special as a reward, I…

As I age, I need less food. I have a thyroid disorder, it makes me need even less food. The days I am not very active, I need less food still. Eating at 1200 calories is no loss at all. The days I do that, I don't feel like I am missing out. Once in a while, when I eat until I am stuffed (like yesterday and the day…

Every morning. I don't panic if I go up, as I have been doing this enough to know my weight fluctuates. I only log when I have lost though. That is actually the painful part of using MFP - I am not honest about the times I gain weight, I just ignore those numbers and log the next time I lose.

Nuts. That used to be my go-to snack when I felt like munching on something. No more of that!

About joint pain: Are you taking omega 3 in some form? I feel so much better when I remember to have my fish oil. My joints hurt less, and my skin feels better. Also, if people have now scared you away from pills all together, just eat fatty fish, seeds and nuts. Not as concentrated, but equally good for your joints!

I may have grown up in an even further era, because where I grew up jeans didn't fit unless we had to lie down to pull them up, Twiggy was the image of true beauty for the girls a few years older than us, and boobs or hips should never mar a good feminine silhuette. That went straight into the period of a female silhuette…

It all depends. If you are losing, then it doesn't matter. If you don't, then I'd cut out the alcohol for a while, just to see if that may be it. Personally, I know I will gain weight if I drink regularly, even if it's just a small glass of wine; so for me alcohol is for special occasions only. Others don't react that way.…

First: Did he recommend low carb or no carb? There is a significant difference. On low carb you cut out all kind of sugars, you go very easy on the fruit, but you can eat a lot of vegetables. Mainly avoid the starchy ones, like potatoes, and be a little careful about cooked carrots (try to find a table of glycemic index of…

And here I have been working like crazy when the Pilates trainer says: "Tighten your inner thigh muscles - press in - try to close that gap between your thighs..." I should have told her "don't mess with my thigh gap!" I have wide hips, and didn't even notice when I reached the point that my thighs no longer touched. I…

I lose more in the periods when I can't work out than when I do. Since I work out regularly (but nothing like you!!!), my body enjoys a few days with no muscle soreness, and I lose all the water I otherwise tend to retain. Also, I am less hungry. Take those days of rest and enjoy them. If you end up seriously ill, you may…

This is very much about culture. I'd not react if this happened to such a young child around here. Nudity is not a taboo, and kids have seen naked men before. I don't think it's a problem if boys that age go with their mothers either. I do however understand that it's more of a taboo for you. But consider that the father…

"Gluten free" means it doesn't contain wheat, barley or rye. Oats is often included in things to avoid, but that is not because oats themselves contain gluten, but because they are often grown in fields where there may be strands of wheat, barley or rye mixed in. Gluten-free oats are just grown carefully separate.…

Before you fiddle too much with the food, alternate your exercizes. Try for strength one or two days a week, and put in one or two days of rest. Working out more than normal causes your body to retain water as part of the healing process, and you may not see the weight loss until you are stable at a certain level. If you…

Lentils and a bit of water (Read on the bag), then add spices, perhaps a little vegetable stock, and sliced vegetables that you like: Carrots, mushrooms, squash, sweet potatoes, fennel, celery - just pick stuff you like. Let it all cook together until the lentils are soft and the water mostly cooked in. If they get too…
