  • Hungry Girl (www.hungrygirl.com) has tons of fast food swap outs... haven't tried the onion rings but here is the recipe and I might give it a try tonight -- all this talk about bloomin onions is making me NEED SOME! Ingredients: 1 large onion 1/4 cup original Egg Beaters 1/2 cup crushed Fiber One Cereal Directions:…
  • mmm.... i also chug tea most of the day.... and i have been adding it to my water consumption.... since the amount of caffeine in green tea (15 mg) is pretty minimal - compared to a cup of coffee (85 mg) i would think it's not really an issue unless you are spending alot of time in the bathroom
  • OMG!!!! Although i wasn't totally surprised that chain restaurants serve ginormous portions of unhealthy food, it was the comparisons that really hit home! 8 pints of ice cream in 1 smoothie?!? Give me 4 pints and call it a day  Thanks for sharing
  • drink lots of bottled water -- especially in between cocktails if you're having them. helps to cut back on a bunch of extra calories without totally giving up the party. have a great trip!
  • Oh I can definitely relate... We were in a similar financial situation and that's where I developed a sincere appreciation for eating! When there was a big meal, or something special - i would just about lick my plate. Gross, I know... but having to think about "whether there is going to be food" definitely affects…
  • No stress here, must be the alien jello!
  • i've done a couple videos and tried some moves that friends have shown me... not only good for flexibility and strengthening your core muscles but great for posture too! have fun!
  • there's that 'age' thing again coming back to get me! now that explains it. actually... i do wonder about 'belly fat' being different somehow? since the rest of my weight has come off in FiFO mode, except for my belly which was last to arrive and doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry to leave. i was chalking it up…
  • that's a good suggestion. i have neck problems so i use a large ball and it really helps with support. i was told by a personal trainer that the combination of cardio and strength training (including situps) works the best for blasting fat. the energy required to repair/build muscle tissue continues to burn calories even…
  • I found this online at: http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/nutrients/na/sodium.html There is no RDA for sodium because the human diet has never lacked it. An adequate amount of sodium for adults is between 250 and 500 mg/day. The Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for healthy adults is 2300 mg/day. The 2005 Dietary…
  • I wiki'd sugar and nutrition and found this. ? Don't know how much it helps, but it's something! In 2003, four United Nations agencies, (including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)) commissioned a report compiled by a panel of 30 international experts. The panel stated that…
  • Couldn't agree more, since being HEALTHY is the whole idea. There's no way I would let myself starve or get overly obsessed with the numbers. For me, the challenge is pushing the exercise and building muscle mass to use calories more efficiently... I'm really out of shape, so that probably accounts for part of it. Once I…
  • Hi Banks - I had originally gone to an insta-BMR calculator on the web and put my height (5'1") and age (50) in... it gave me 1168 calories/day 'just to exist'... I have a fairly sedentary lifestyle (sit at computer all day) and prone to water-weight gain. Maybe those are factors for me? Or perhaps the BMR calc was bogus?…
  • i think the key here is 'moderation' -- so much has been studied and written about the dangers of artificial sweetners, just surf the net and it'll curb your splenda cravings quick. and for those of us with IBS, total elimination (pardon the pun) is the best way. there are so many alternatives for cooking with less sugar…
  • yes some of us are 5'1" and 125 lbs... and over 50.... let me assure you my passion for eating is in direct inverse proportion to my size. so if I eat 1200 cals/day i will actually gain weight, how unfair is that? anyway, we all have our challenges when it comes to monitoring our consumption. the whole idea here is…
  • all of the above... and then factor your age... !! i was horrified to learn, as we get older we don't require as many calories to exist... although MFP does not recommend eating fewer than 1200 calories/day (an excellent policy), i would actually gain weight if i ate 1200 every day because of my height and age. that's why…
  • That is fantastic, keep it up!! I've lost 5 lbs in 6 weeks.... seems like it's going S-L-O-W. So taking a moment to 'smell the roses' is a great idea! I feel good - my endurance is growing and, best of all: I am sleeping MUCH better from all the exercise!
  • The last line of the article says it all! Whether we like it or not
  • WOW - you are an inspiration!! congratulations, you obviously have worked very hard! thanks for sharing the pic...
  • has anyone tried 'popcorn seasoning' they sell at the grocery... ? it didn't look bad, calorie-wise, just wondering if it tastes any good?
  • thankfully we are invited to a friend's house - so no leftovers! or having to feed the masses. the plan is to eat a VERY small breakfast and lunch, take a LONG walk.. and bring a 'safe' snack (veggies and marzetti fat free dill dip- which is delicious) and try to limit myself to a couple delectable treats.... :drinker: GO…
  • grossed out? nah, that idea rocks! will have to try it tonight~!
  • that is great! and even just plain warmed-up prune juice works too.... it's been my 'nightcap' for the past few nights.... but what is UP with this?!? i just want it to stop already!
  • To be honest, I never miss the hungry feeling :-> But it's great to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful (deserved!) Saturday night and didn't let it totaly de-rail your weight loss efforts. Yes, it might take an extra day to get that one pound off. But life is TOO SHORT, so thanks for the perspective! I had…
  • I hear ya, southern girl. I'm from an Italian family - and it's pretty much the same thing. Another place where calories seem to sneak in is while I am cooking - I just HAVE to "make sure everything tastes right".... so I sample here & there, and before ya know it... have consumed a portion or more of whatever it is! SO in…
  • welcome to the site! 50 is a magic number isn't it? i just arrived too (to this site AND to 50!) wow - 6 lbs. is a fantastic start!!! what works for me is walking! everywhere, as much as possible. even around the mall or grocery store or home improvement center (it's cold and dark here after dinner, so choices are limited)…
  • Boston MA snow day today woo-hoo!
  • Just watch the labels - alot of them are loaded with sugar.
  • Yeah the food diary is the best reality check! I try to save 150 cals. for my night time snack... If I didn't eat after 8pm I would have to go to bed at 8:05!
  • doesnt' it feel GREAT!!!!!! keep it up!
