I think this is going to be my mantra this summer: run to lose weight. I've had some changes in my job and we've just bought a house, so my hubby and I don't want to join a gym, because of the extra cost. I think I'm just going to go for runs to take the weight off. Will running harm conception, if we're trying to have a…

Just a side comment. I noticed that in this month's magazine there was a letter to the editor about the Holly Madison Inspirational article. It basically was another advertisement for NV from a girl who also used it and was "inspired" by Holly. WTF???? I was really disgusted. No negative letters at all and no one ever…

Well, I did well with onion and garlic sets and my directly sewn lettuce is taking off finally. I'm waiting to see more growth on the hot pepper and bell peppers. However, the organic tomatos and spinach were a total bust. They wilted before I could get them transplanted in the ground. How is everyone else's organic garden…

I love the muddy picture! You look like you had a blast. The tips of the other posters are also helpful. Who would think certain gear is more helpful than others! I'm definately a newbie!:-) Shannon

I have about a 3X8 area gardened now. I don't think it will end up as large as I had anticipated because I've had some setbacks. I'm disappoined I haven't had success with spinach seeds. I'm hoping I can just buy the plants somewhere. I ended up doing a mixture of organic onions, garlic, lettuce, tomatos, a hot & green…

Did anyone end up going? How was it? Post pics!!! Shannon

TOTALLY BUMMED!!! I got an e-mail a few days ago, saying the second day, May 6th was cancelled. I can't do the 5th because I'm helping to administer the SATs. I'm really disappointed...... I had to ask for a refund.:-( Shannon

I planted my red, yellow, and white onion sets as well as a few garlic bulbs this weekend. I fenced the area off to keep the rabbits out. Anything else I need to worry about? I might fertilize next weekend. I have the fish fertilizer, which I heard won't harm the plants. On the other hand, I'm having problems getting my…

I've seen them publish negative letters before, but they probably won't put mine in. I'm too blunt with calling them out on the carpet.;-) I really like Fitness and Self magazines better, but they still have the same issues, at least with their advertisements. I love success stories that are REAL PEOPLE, working hard to…

She was just an example of a mentor people can look up to. I'm not saying she's the best out there, just because she's famous. Just clarifying!:-) Shannon

Well, I agree that it sounds like the PT at your gym are a bit stale, if not silly (heels... we're here to workout, not pick up a date? Sheesh!). However, I think there are some really great trainers out there. I mean, who wouldn't want to train with someone like JIllian Michaels, who can really push you to the next…

We have an old border collie mutt that we rescued from our local animal shelter. His name is Patchy, but he's kind of lazy and gets pooped out easily when we take him for walks. He had lyme disease when we got him, so I'm sure it's related to age and the illness itself. He's not the best walking buddy, as a result. I get…

Don't give up on yourself. Everyone has a slip up! Be sure to get right back on the horse. Eat healthily during your next few meals and make SURE that you get a few workouts in. It will minimize the damage. The main thing is to keep going. Your human. Give yourself some slack once in a while. It's okay!:-) Shannon

I see this topic come up a lot and I'm also interested in purchasing one, as well as some sort of device that has a stopwatch. Can anyone explain what the real difference is between the different types/styles of HRMs and what functions they typically have? I'm a total newbie on this concept! Shannon

Did everyone check the website out. There were several locations throughout the US listed there. http://www.godirtygirl.com/ Well, if some of you sign up for this date, let me know. We'll have to figure out a way to identify and find one another. Shannon

Just finished the Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan, which looks at where our food comes from and why organic might be the better choice. Very shocking read! I'm currently reading one of the Chicken Noodle Soup books (Christmas... I'm a bit behind.) A lot of times they're sad, but they're always inspirational. Shannon

I officially signed up for the 5.6.12 Wave 12 11am race. My cousin and gym aquaintance are going too. Trying to connect with people. Anyone else going to this event? Shannon

Bump.... anyone? Shannon

Please feel free to add your own comments here. I feel like I'm running a blog, instead of a thread!:-P So, my corn seedlings were basically decimated by the cold weather this week. I was starting to harden them off when winter returned with a fierceness that knocked all of the blooms off my magnolia tree and azealia (sp?)…

Really interesting comments, guys. I've also always been anoyed by the advertisements in Self, Fitness, and Shape Magazines. A lot of them are for diet pills, which when you read the actual magazine content, the readers are told that supplements aren't FDA approved that their claims haven't been substantiated with…

MFP is! People actually pay attention to your posts on here. Shannon

Not that big of a makeup gal, but I do like CoverGirl and NYC. I'm definately a drugstore makeup gal.;-) Shannon

Disgusting documentary, but it makes you realize that the food in our grocery stores is disgusting. I'd rather know the truth, than be naively unaware about what I'm putting in my body. I don't want cancer in 30 years. I started my first garden this summer and I'm planning on making it organic. I still don't have a lot of…

Kind of feel like I'm talking to myself in here sometimes.*LOL* But if it gets more people to join our little thread..... So, I was getting ready to transplant my corn outside this weekend because the weather has been so mild. In fact, it's supposed to be 80 today. The last few days, I've set my corn plants outside, in a…

Well, I'm just the type of gal that doesn't like to travel by herself. I know I could do the event solo if I really wanted to. But I don't have to go alone.... my cousin, Kara, said she'd love to give it a try! She hasn't worked out in a year and is overweight, but she's hoping that this will motivate her to get back in…

I concur. I also made skinnytaste.com's chicken enchillado soup and it was AMAZING!!!! I always love her soup recipes. The link for this recipe is: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2011/12/crock-pot-chicken-enchilada-soup.html Shannon

It would be neat to meet other MFP members there. Maybe we should wear something so we can find each other? Shannon

Yay! I signed up for it. My cousin, Kara, is going to go with me on 5.6 for the 11am wave. I can't wait... this will be my first mud run!!!:-D Shannon

Just read this book and it's a real eye opener of the system of how our food is grown/bred and how it gets to the supermarket. Definately makes me happy that I'm starting to eat more organically!!! There's also a Young Readers Edition of the book, which is what I read. It has pictures and the language is easier so the read…

Great ideas, everyone! This thread has become a helpful resource to me. The weather here in PA has been in the 60-70s the last week and a half. My magnolia tree and forsythia bushes are already blooming. I know it's risky to plat out this early, but the corn that I started (it was an oops... shouldn't be done this early,…
