It's a spiritual successor to the Coors Classic (it's the race American Flyers used loosely in inspiration). I watched what I could last year and really enjoyed it,so yeah I'll catch what I can. Bums me out as I'm about a days drive away and there's no way I could get there now if I wanted to watch live in person. And…

If the Schwalbe's are too $pendy, Performance Bike has some slicks and semi-slicks (Forte and Metro I think) that I used for year commuting with little to no issue with them. Think it's around $18 each and if you're worried about flats, run with some Stans (or similar sealant) in the tube and you should be golden.…

Wow, scary stuff there. Glad to hear you're doing better and that they caught it before it got even worse (big clots in the lungs or brain). Hope the recovery goes well and you're back out on the bike soon!

Reading: the windup girl (just finished re-reading the Sprawl Trilogy by Bill Gibson, far more surrealistic than I remembered!) Playing: Battlefront 2...the X360 won't play the new games but I can play this. It's a nice, rare diversion. Listening: Songza and Spotify, lots of classic rock chased by early 80's hardcore.…

I'd wear that jersey but don't want to give any of the local idiot...err...drivers any ideas. I'll take my 305 if you'll have me. TBY Edit - Confirmed - it wouldn't be the same without you mate :-)

Huge props to all those that participated out there! Feels fantastic to be competing with such a group of amazing folks, really makes one want to up their game. Congrats to the podium and jersey winners too! Massive efforts there. Wish I hadn't crashed out, but there's still the Vuelta. See y'all on the road! And lastly...…

I got in the shower yesterday when I got home from work and scrubbed all the spots again and everything looks much better today. Wish I could go out but I can hardly walk up steps/get up from sitting due to "damage" to my thigh. I don't think anything is torn/busted but I took a very hard hit at the top of the…

Guess it's catching as I crashed too this morning coming into work. Luckily I work at a hospital so supplies to mend the road rash are plentiful. Bike looks ok, but I am going to have one heck of a bruise on my thigh tonight! Consequences of letting one's mind wander a bit too far astray whilst riding!

Hmmm...looks like I'm in contention for the Lantern Rouge... Because I'm certainly not in the running for anything else!
-
There was too many times to stop and take pics this weekend, but I was going too fast and having too much fun to do so!
-
After my Sigma(?) non-fancy computer died I went to Strava on my phone(s). Still looking around for an alternative to that (without the $$$ tag) but it will suffice for now.
-
Yeah, I was not happy when I pulled the phone out of the pannier and Strava showed 00:00 for ride time. It wasn't much, but every bit helps!
-
:frown: I knew it well well nigh time to replace mine, but didn't know how over I was (5+ years). Guess it's be a helmet as the next bike-related purchase.
-
Looks like half my riding yesterday doesn't count...app on the phone decided it didn't want to track the ride. Oh well...onward!
-
250-400, give or take. I set very nebulous goals and ride as I feel, but have a long term goal of beating the prior year's total. There are some that do far more than I though.

All may not be lost with the Pinnacle, there's innumerable ways to mount a fender without the hole, lots of information here: http://velo-orange.blogspot.com/2009/10/another-fender-trick.html As for bikes...I know nothing.

Didn't have to dodge bears today though...

As a "leisure" rider (meaning I'm not pounding out the same as some of the more, ah, dedicated folks) it makes me want to ride, the very thing you meant to accomplish. I would've been on my 9th day in a row today if the GI monster hadn't taken me out over the weekend and it's because of a) goal I set for myself to ride…

Maybe it's factoring in some sort of metabolic efficiency, he is a pro... I don't know, it does seem low.

It's elevation gain over distance, add a dash of steepness and you get the categories. Here's a link: http://cyclingskills.blogspot.com/2008/07/rating-climbs-and-defining-percent.html But it mentions that variations and discrepancies abound. Just know that the lower the numbers, the harder the climb.

Cobbles? Yes. Rain? Puh-leeze, I commuted year-round in the PNW, we'll talk about soggy rides. That said, I'm loving the derailment of the Sky Train (now if only Phil and Paul would remove themselves from Sky's colon) and the Tour back to being a race with exciting possibilities. The last couple of years of watching a…

Hail Hydra! Oh, wait...err... I got yer' cobbles right here.

I too am a commuter so it's usually at least 5 in a row, during the challenges it's 6 or more. The nice thing is I can adjust my commute for when I'm feeling poorly, it's a base 5 miles door-to-door but I usually add miles based on how I feel so when I feel like crap I go straight there and back, slowly. (slower than…

I've paid many a sacrifice to the road gods...now I pay attention better! Stans is the sealant many use in tubeless tires to seal them. It basically turns the tube into a self-sealing tube. It's a lot like slime, just not green.
-
99/117 for the year, does that count? Had a great streak going back to late April of 100% commuting until last week when my tire went bad on me. Took a couple of days (and a paycheck) to get back on the road. Start of another streak then.
-
Had issues like that too, new tires solved most of that but I took it a step further and put 2oz of Stans in the tube before I mounted the tire. With a few exceptions, like really big pieces of debris that NOTHING could protect from, it reduced my from 3-5 flats.month to <1 (knock wood, hope I'm not jinxing myself here!)…

Setting the DVR, muting #TdF hashtags on Twitter, not checking cycling news until after I've watched the stage and riding every day of the Tour. I think coverage starts here at oh-dark-thirty and I roll out to work not too long after so I may catch some during my coffee. More like though I'll be this guy:…

New shoes for the commuter... Bike has some new shoes. by Spatialized, on Flickr The rear tire I had on the bike was fixing to blow any moment but I couldn't wait for delivery so off to the shop I go. It's s small shop, doesn't have much stock because...it's a small shop, in a small town. Anyways talking to the owner and…

I bike to work everyday, barring "issues" (like my near exploding tire). Sun, wind, snow, rain, cold, hot it makes no difference. But unless I have more money in the account so I can buy a new tire I won't be tomorrow. But you should do it! Bike commuting is fun and strangely addictive, plus your co-workers may think…
