  • Thank you! I hate this debate as well because I will never be "curvy" without surgery, lol. When I was overweight, I was overweight everywhere (bigger boobs, big tummy, big butt). Since you can't spot reduce, when I lost weight, I lost it all and not have small boobs, small tummy and small butt. I don't think I could do…
  • I have a very slow resting heart rate as well (like 42ish usually) and it sets of the alarms when they check it on the machine at the doctors office, lol. My doctor said as long as that's the only symptom I'm having, it's fine and actually healthy. However, if you're fainting, dizzy, fatigued a lot or anything else…
  • I don't know if it's available where you are, but may be worth looking into. We have a local grocery/farmers market type store that has $1 baskets of produce in the back that are close to going bad. If you buy them and cook them the same day or next day, you can keep them in your fridge for a week. We usually plan our…
  • It seems like you get a different answer for every person you ask, lol. For me, I try to eat foods that are not processed or minimally processed most of the time. I try to avoid boxed foods or fast food. The closer the food is to it's natural form, the better. For me personally, I find this way of eating makes me feel…
  • I am also maintaining. I surpassed my goal weight and am working on eating healthy and toning up. Feel free to add me, OP or anyone else :-)
  • Same here. If there are a lot of leftovers, I'll portion them out and freeze them to use later so I'm not eating the same thing everyday. I usually have several choices in the freezer/fridge.
  • I didn't read all of the responses, but I agree that you just should stop making it an issue. The reality is, it is most likely a power struggle and since you can't literally force them to eat, they will win. At our house, we have family meals and you can either choose to eat or not eat, however, you must sit with the…
  • Hmmm, that's tough. I love veggies, so haven't had to make myself eat them. I would suggest trying different spices with them. Do you like curry spices or Mexican spices or anything like that? You could try different ways of preparing them: steamed, raw, roasted, grilled and experiment with different seasoning combinations…
  • I can relate to the all or nothing mentality that you're describing. It's like you either binge on unhealthy foods, or barely eat anything; both of which are very unhealthy. I think you need to focus on adopting a healthy lifestyle and healthy habits instead of just doing the opposite of what you did before. For me,…
  • I agree that whole foods are better than the shakes. There are lots of things you can premake for breakfast and grab in the mornings. Google overnight oats (I often warm them up in the morning if it's cold outside). Premake some breakfast sandwiches or wraps with bagel thin or the low carb/high fiber tortillas, an egg,…
  • I agree, it can often be cheaper to eat healthy IF you do a lot of cooking and planning. Buying the healthy, organic, premade stuff will be more expensive than mac and cheese, but you don't need that premade stuff. Buy in bulk, in season and on sale when you can. We have a farmers market type store that sells produce…
  • I saw a dietician at the university I work at who said chocolate milk was one of the best recovery drinks too. She said some type of recovery snack or drink should ideally be consumed within 60 minutes of the workout for optimal results. I've also found that brisk walking or light jogging on the days between the harder…
  • I don't sweat it. I prefer to look at things weekly anyway rather than daily. So, if I go over by say 500 calories one day, I'll try to stay under by 100 calories for 5 days of the week. You can also add a bit more exercise in during the week to cover it if you'd rather do it that way. Seriously though, we're all going to…
  • Where in Texas are you? I'm in the Bryan/College Station area. I don't home school, but do have 5 acres and a nice garden. We also raise chickens and sheep. I have been thinking about getting some bee hives as well. We can a lot of our produce (whatever we don't eat or freeze), lol. I've reached my goal weight and am now…
  • Hahaha! 34 working mom of 2 trying to maintain and build strength. Feel free to add me OP or anyone else.
  • I put my dough in a large greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap and a towel. Then put it in the oven with just the oven light on. Just the light warms up the oven the perfect amount to get a nice rise and the towel over the bowl keeps the light out of the dough.
  • I use unsweetened almond milk too because of it's long shelf life and I like the taste better than skim milk. One thing to consider though is that it has way less protein than cow or soy milk.
  • You can definitely loose weight this way, but in my opinion, it isn't a very healthy way. I think you would be loosing more muscle than you probably want to. You need to fuel your body and your work outs by eating enough healthy foods. I think most of what you're eating is okay, but I'd recommend adding more protein and…
  • I think the whole weight thing can make people feel uncomfortable. If someone overweight says something like "oh, I'm going to pass on the beer because I'm trying to loose weight", it could make those around them uncomfortable and likely to say something like "oh, you're fine". I don't think they're doing it to be mean or…
  • I think it's cheaper to eat healthy, it just takes some planning. I prepare my family's dinners for the week on Sundays. We buy what's on sale on Sunday and I have time to prepare the food rather than grabbing more costly convenience food during the week. We eat a lot of beans, vegetables that are in season, brown rice,…
  • I can relate. Try planning your treats and working them into your calories. I tend to think of my calories on a weekly rather than daily basis so that if I go over one day and under another, it all kind of evens out. I think if you plan it out and give yourself a certain amount you can have, you will be more likely to…
  • That's tough and I do feel for you. I can see where making separate grocery lists and meal plans would not be practical, but at the same time, there has to be some compromise on his part. For our family, I prepare our dinners for the week on Sunday so it's already done and in the fridge. I cook mostly healthy foods,…
  • The reality is you need to find a way to eat more. With such an extreme calorie deficit and so much cardio, you are burning a lot of muscle, which I assume you would rather not do. I agree with the other poster who suggested estimating your calories burned early in the day and work on eating the calories you need…
  • I get what you're saying and struggle with the guilty feeling at times too. I think for me, I am afraid that if I start thinking "oh, it's just one piece of cake, no big deal" that will turn into "well, it just puts me over my calories a little, no big deal" to "well, I just won't log it because I keep going over my…
  • I would say my primary motivation for exercise is to increase my fitness, muscle tone and strength. Having a few extra calories to play with is a nice bonus, but I would not say that I exercise more so that I can eat more.
  • I don't use protein powder daily, only when I am low, but I use it in: oatmeal Greek yogurt almond milk homemade protein bars
  • How much am I eating when? I usually get between 1500-1600 calories per day. Like I said above, 1.5-2 hours before workouts I have a snack.
  • 5'10.5" here :-) Started around 198, went down to 160 doing WW, but no exercise, so was skinny fat, lol. Then got pregnant and gave birth in May leaving the hospital at around 185. Started exercising as soon as I was cleared and joined MFP and am now working on maintaining at 140 (with a range of 138-142). I am liking the…
  • I've had this happen as well. It happened more often when I was just starting out, but still does occasionally if I've eaten too much/too soon before a workout or if I push myself too hard. What I have found is that if I eat a little something about 1-1.5 hours before the workout, it helps with that. I usually go for a…
