  • Thank you all for your great responses. I immediately went to check out bodyweight lifting as suggested. I ordered one of their dvds. I think it's yayog which Twix mentioned. I have absolutely no strength (slight exaggeration but you get the idea). My goal is to increase lean mass and burn fat, as well as lose lbs of…
  • I'm 5' and I'm not there yet but I hope to reach the same goal. Size 6 sounds wonderful :)
  • I keep a lookout on my points for this very reason. Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. I think there has to be a strategy to your method but whatever you choose to do, the premise is the same: burn more calories than you eat but don't starve yourself either. I've done WW for years since Winning Points I…
  • That's awesome! I'm on week 1. Hope to get to where you are at soon.
  • I'm adding you as a friend because I want to become a runner. I know that running is the best exercise for my body. My body loves it.
  • How do you keep track of the weekly points?
  • Exactly what I do but in ounces. MizTerry, it's actually pretty easy. Your tools do the math for you. You only calculate it once (enter it in your recipe builder) if your recipe is consistent...meaning you cook it the same way often. It's only work the first time you are entering a new recipe. When I serve myself it's not…
  • I track both...calories and carbs because lower carbs helps you feel energized and satisfied while higher carbs make you hungry faster...it's easier to deal with a calorie deficit on low carb. Low carb to me is between 50-100 g depending on your physicial activity during the day.
  • We can try to make it so "simple" by explaining that it's a matter of willpower you "weakling" but that doesn't help the other individual and whether we like it or not it may be more difficult for some than others....otherwise mental health professionals wouldn't exist...psychology wouldn't exist, studies on human behavior…
  • Yes...there's a TDEE for someone with a sedentary lifestyle unless you are someone who lays in bed all day and don't move. I think the calculation is multiplied by 1.2 or something like that. Perhaps someone can bring the llink to the websites with the calculations.
  • I'm a "professional researcher" as well but I'm not just limited to google. I do books, videos, interviews, blogs, etc etc. Whatever means information comes from. I think the message to take home is that we all need an education as to how our body works. Once we know how our bodies work, then we can figure out what plan…
  • you can add a script to show points but this only works on a laptop or computer. Scripts currently don't run on mobile browsers. Can't wait for the day they do.
  • I drink water, tea and coffee. It wasn't hard to switch when I changed my focus on drinking other beverages. Coffee and tea especially fill me in such a way that I don't need soda. Also after being off the soda so long it's uncomfortable to drink such a bubbly beverage. It just doesn't go down smooth anymore.
  • Hi The script only works on a desktop until mobile browsers begin supporting extension add ons.
  • Don't be afraid of fat. It will fill you up and help with satisfaction. Make sure you eat the right kinds of fat. Since you are diabetic I would encourage you to read the book blood sugar 101 and Dr Bernsteins diabetics solution. The advice I read for diabetics is to "eat by your meter", meaning control your blood sugar…
  • a good tasting stevia I recommend is made by Nunaturals. They have a no carb blend. This is what I use.
  • I have always found I was starving while on a low calorie diet...UNTIL....I started eating more fat and reducing my carbs. My advice if you don't want to be hungry, read Primal Blueprint also watch the movie Fat Head. Don't starve yourself. If you control your blood sugar levels you will be LESS hungry and you'll be more…
  • I have a big thermal mug from the brand Contigo that I got from Target (I got the stainless steel one so that I can wash in the dishwasher). They are really really good at keeping your drink cold or hot for hours. You can prepare a cold high fat shake to take with you. I promise that hours later it will still be cold. Or…

  • I just count carbs. The body makes it glucose anyway.
  • That's awesome! That's exactly how I've felt it. I haven't been paying attention to it though because I'm trying to finish through my books on low carb and what not so my free time is spent reading at the moment. I think after the "dust" settles I might just beat the roadrunner lol.
  • HI there! I'm losing weight now and I'm not doing any kind of physical activity. I have a sedentary desk job and when I get home I sit down and read a book. I'll get back to doing some activity later on to shape up but in the meantime low carb is working for me without exercise. This was not the case prior to cleaning my…
  • I'm doing my own plan but I think I'm leaning more towards Primal style with my own tweaks. I'm basing my changes on how my body feels (satiety, energy, etc) and the knowledge I obtain from reading. My goal is to have controlled levels of insulin and feel good with tons of energy and a healthy weight.
  • This is great to read. So have you both become more physically active just because you feel so energized? Just curious if it's the kind of energy that makes you want to get up and do stuff.
  • I'm not sure if I'm in a ketogenic state or not as I've not tested myself but I do feel my skin has gotten a LOT smoother. My logic is that my body must be getting "lubricated" with more oils. It makes sense if it means we are burning fat and that our cells now are getting the energy they need since there is no insulin to…
  • I've read mention of this lightly in different blogs and in the why we get fat book. When they talk about the kidneys and hypertension (high blood pressure) they mention the salt issue. From what I gather in memory the salt is important when you are trying to go ketogenic. If I remember correctly the kidneys tends to let…
  • what is MDA? I'm still up in the air as to how many carbs I'll eat daily. Primal says <50 is ketogenic, 50-100 carbs daily is the sweet spot so I might shoot for this sweet spot but I've been mainly focusing on finding ways to eat more fat. In focusing on fat, I've naturally lowered the amount of carbs I eat in the range…
  • lol Welcome to the group! I'm actually new too but I never introduced myself because I'm kinda getting my "feet wet" with all this low carb WOE. And to that I add...God Bless stevia...nunaturals to be exact as it tastes better When did you start low carb? How did you get involved in it? a book? a friend? what got you…
  • I started reading a little bit on her blog. I think I'll try to find the book at the library. Do update when you start the diet.
  • I don't know anything about this book but would love to read any inputs about it. How is it easier to follow than Atkins?
  • I would LOVE if MFP had an optional "calorie banking" feature for those interested in zig zagging their calories in a week. It makes more sense than this Net calorie stuff.
