This isn't how it works at all.

False, because the rest of the starving people would die of starvation, and all that would be left would be those magical chubbies and their genetically magical offspring who magically went into "starvation mode" without any food. Natural selection would have packed Africa with these people decades (centuries?) ago. And do…

I want everyone here to succeed. But when people say ridiculous things about cleanses, or detoxes, or raspberry ketones, or weight loss pills, or "CICO didn't work for me," they are encouraging failure. Maybe they're not lying on purpose, but they are actively harming through their own selfish ignorance the unsuspecting…

I went from 130 pounds to 170 pounds (15 years ago) by eating crazy amounts of pasta using a technique I learned from working in restaurants years ago: - make enormormous quantity of pasta - put it all in a strainer and run cold water over it (be careful - it's easy to burn yourself!) - when it's all cold, put it in…

Physics doesn't lie. If CICO didn't work 100% of the time, sub-Saharan Africa would be packed with fat people, instead of people who look like they're made of sticks. Ever see pics/videos of people in Nazi camps? Do you think CICO worked for them? Or did they go into "starvation mode" of suddenly start packing on weight?…

I wrote pretty much the same post, but with the addition that he should also be cooking his own meals like a grown-up. But then I didn't post it because I thought it would be mean.

Some people like it; some people find it too restrictive. It works by making it easy to keep you calories low, and by removing hunger pangs that come (for some of us) with eating carbs. The only way to find out is to do it. The first 3 days suck, and then it becomes easy.

                Weekdays: 8am snack 11am lunch 2pm snack 4pm dinner Weekends: non-stop

You don't need to eat breakfast.
 -
I have 1/3 cup of almonds and some iced coffee for breakfast every weekday.

I deal with it by never having guilt. I keep my calories very low during the week specifically so that I can eat and drink whatever I want on the weekends. No guilt.

Found the problem. Most of us enjoy crap TV periodically, but when you start basing your own life and beliefs around what happens on the Kardashians or the Duggars or the Biggest Loser, you're going to have a bad time.

It's amazing and sad how expensive gym memberships are in some cities. Las Vegas Athletic Club has lots of locations and great facilities for $12/month. (But I haven't been there in over a year because I built a home gym.)
 -
I would never say that, because it's ridiculous - something people told their kids 40 years ago that has no basis in science. Eat what and when you want.

It doesn't. It's impossible that you're not losing weight eating 800 calories per day unless you're part of the X-Men and defying physics is your superpower. You're eating more than you think, and possibly a lot more. Weigh your food. Fortunately google is here to make up for the inadequacies of the US education system. I…

Healthier and better? Well, there's nothing particularly unhealthy about Slim Fast. But real food is A LOT cheaper. Also, Slim Fast is packed with carbs, which make me hungry. That's why I used to use Slim Fast as a weight gainer. It was very effective at helping me to gain weight (although again, it's pretty expensive…

This can't be said enough. For people who get bad DOMS, stretching, BCAAs, rolling, glutamine ... none of it does anything at all. What works is not taking time off from working out. If I don't work out more than 4 or so days in a row, I'm going to pay for it the next few days with severe DOMS. This is why I rarely take…

What happens in a week is irrelevant. All that matters is what happens over time - 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years.
 -
Neither is "better" than the other. Drink what you like, with the understanding that almond milk (which I drink) is much more expensive.

What celebrity athletes eat is irrelevant to everyone on earth except them and their cooks. For every elite athlete who follows a specific diet, there are a dozen others who live on pizza and beer, or are vegetarian, or paleo, or follow some other trend. And don't forget a large side order of PEDs.
 -
OP, I eat basically the way you describe. I didn't really plan to eat like this-- I don't care about Atkins, or paleo, or low-carb, or whatever -- but I tried a lot of different things and this is how my eating habits evolved. I don't get why commenters here are calling it "extreme" or "complicated." It's really easy to…

The only danger is that you can make it yourself cheaper and better-tasting.

That's not a terrible weight for a naturally thin woman at 5'6". It sounds like she could do with some lifting, though.
 -
I don't care much about weight loss; I care about living a healthy lifestyle, which for me includes lifting and eating right, which leads to losing weight (or maintaining at a good weight). I want to be active and backpacking well into my 60s, and that means getting and staying fit in my younger days.

The only pressure you feel is what you've chosen to feel. Just say, "No thanks," and move on. I actually can recommend a book. It's a cheesy self-help book, but my friends and I in college called it "The Good Book" because the advice there was shockingly useful: Dr. Robert Anthony's Ultimate Secrets of Total…

Cook whole chickens in the crockpot, and make chili out of everything but the bones. This is the cheapest protein I've found. Second cheapest that doesn't taste terrible: ON weight protein. Wait for a sale and buy the largest size.

Actually, every on of these proven routines do work for everyone (barring health issues). The problem is finding something you like enough to do consistently. So there's nothing wrong with "trying all kinds of workouts" as long as you keep in mind that, if you haven't done it for 3+ months consistently, you haven't even…

If by "he" you mean Mehdi, you're better off following the routine as prescribed and ignoring everything else he says. He's known as something of a blowhard clown in fitness/lifting circles. And comments like the one you cite is one reason why. Running 5ks isn't going to affect your squats, and isn't going to ruin your…

In my skinny younger days (pre-internet) I used to use Slim Fast as a weight gainer. It worked great.

My every day green drink:* ON protein powder * almond milk * coffee * kale * red chard * pear * carrot * cucumber * ice It's delicious.
